Ten year old Kenji stared at her neighbor and crush, Blake. Their windows were opposite of one another. Kenji could see right in his room and Blake could do the same to Kenji.

She's been in love with him for almost an entire week now. This currently being the longest she's ever had a crush on anyone.

"Ken! Come on, we have to go!" Her younger brother, Sekani yelled impatiently

"Okay! I'm coming!" The girl took one last peek at Blake before exiting her room, her sage green backpack bouncing with every step she took down the stairs

"Bye mommy! Bye dad!" She waved happily, pressing a kiss to her sick mother's cheek

"Bye babies! Have a good day. Kani, do you have your house key?" Her dad, Eddie smiled

"Yes sir." He replied, the eight year old held up a red and black painted key

The two children quickly walked out of the front door, headed to the bus stop down the street. As they passed the Vega household, Kenji couldn't help but glance at Blake as he got inside his mom's car.

"He's soooo dreamy." She sighed in a daze

"I don't care about your crush on a boy who won't even acknowledge your existence." Sekani grumbled

"He knows I exist!" She snapped, angrily pushing the younger boy with all her might

Sekani rolled his eyes, laughing "In your dreams, literally."

Blake frowned as he didn't spot the annoyingly happy girl that always seemed to tick his nerves.

Don't be confused, he didn't like her in any form but he had kinda gotten accustomed to having some random, extremely talkative girl run up to him and pester him.

He shook his head, walking to the playground while ruffling his curly, jet black hair.

"Blake!" A voice screamed

He looked towards it expectantly but only deepened his frown once he noticed that it wasn't her, but one of his friends, Robbie, better known as Rob.

"Blake! Come on!" Another voice yelled, Lucas.

Blake ran to the playground, his dark colored backpack scraping the ground behind him as he held it with one hand, basically dragging it.

"Wanna play tag?" Robbie asked, giving Blake a high five

Blake nodded, making the shiny curls on top of his head jump. He glanced around one more time before the three boys began playing the childhood game.

That was until Kenji came.

"Siah!" An extremely happy voice squealed

He looked up, eyes twinkling with an emotion he couldn't quite understand, being just a kid.

Two short little chubby legs charged right at him, her arms flailed as the backpack that was too big for her small frame jumped, along with the bright green bobo's that held her hair into neat twists.

The ten year old boys eyes widened as she attacked him in a tight bear hug, her arms only reaching his waist- he was quite tall for his age. He looked around the playground to find every kid staring at the two.

Blake awkwardly patted her back before softly pushing her away. Kenji's smile didn't seem to falter. She was always a bright child.

"Siah, who are these two?" She smiled brightly at them, showing her white rabbit like teeth

Lucas and Robbie stared at the strange girl confusedly. They thought she was odd. Kenji didn't wait for an answer, instead she took it upon herself to start speaking

"Hi, i'm Kenji but you can call me Ken! Me and Siah are neighbors. Are you guys his friends? We can be friends too!" She rambled

"Boys can't be friends with girls! Girls have cooties." Lucas pointed at her like she was an animal at the zoo

"Yeah! And you have a green bookbag! Green is a boy color!" Robbie scowled, taking a step back

Soon enough every kid on the playground started to join in, pointing and laughing at Kenji. She frowned looking down, she wanted to cry.

Blake's eyebrows furrowed, he gently pushed the sad girl behind him "Leave her alone."

Blake sighed, massaging his temple. He couldn't even begin to wonder how he got himself in this situation, but somehow she always did weasel herself into his life.

"You a bad girl, and your friends bad too, ooo." Kenji rapped, skipping happily down the sidewalk

"Why are you always so fucking happy? It's agitating." He murmured, rolling his eyes

"Why are you always not happy? If you get agitated at positive energy then theres something wrong with you." She raised an eyebrow at the annoyed boy

"There's no possible reason to be skipping. Like take a step back and think about your actions." Blake slowly blinked at her

"Siah we are friends. You don't have to hate on me, hater." She stuck her tongue out at him tauntingly

"We are neighbors. Not friends."

Was what he wanted to say, but he knew it'd break her heart to hear him say something so hurtful. Even when she made him angry, he would never break her heart.

He stayed quiet, ignoring her teasing response but instead taking a glimpse of the many cars speeding down the road. It was definitely a busy day.

"Get more on the sidewalk. You know i hate it when you're close to the road." He mumbled, gripping her hips, making her walk on the side of him

"You piss me off with that shit." Kenji sucked her teeth "Exactly why I prefer to walk by myself."

Blake squinted his eyes annoyingly "I'm not forcing you to walk with me. Plus, you'll be going home by yourself soon."

"What the hell does that even mean?" She glanced at his dull facial expression

"I'm moving this weekend." He answered as they stopped at a crosswalk

Kenji looked up at him with wide eyes "Where?"

"Back to the east side. My dad lost his job and the lowest part of Brooklyn just so happened to be affordable." He shrugged his shoulders

"We'll still go to the same school, right?" Hope smeared in her eyes

Blake sighed, shaking his head "No."

"Who am I gonna talk to? You're my only friend." She mumbled sadly

"You don't need friends. If people at school don't accept you then fuck them. They were never worthy of being your friend anyways." He spoke, gripping her hand while walking to the other side of the road

Once they crossed it, Blake frowned. Although the girl annoyed him like no other, he still hated to be the reason for her sadness.

He exhaled, bending to her five foot three height and pressing a kiss to her cheek. "Me gustas más de lo que planeé, melocotones."

"You need to start translating for me." She grinned at him, secretly hoping he'd smile. But he never did and she was fine with that. His eyes held happiness, though he never showed it.

"Come, lets hurry and get you home." He patted her head

"Can i get on your back?" She questioned "My feet hurt."

He groaned, not having the guts to tell her no "Sure." Rolling his dark brown eyes in irritation before bending down

"My nigga shorty is highkey chopped." Hakeem shook his head

"Didn't she get exposed once?" Robbie chuckled, lighting the blunt "It was all over the schools messy ass shaderoom account."

"I wonder who owns that account." Reece mumbled, running a hand through his hair

"Yo you deadass?" Hakeem questioned with wide eyes

"Dead serious." Robbie nodded "And everybody knows Jah's messy ass runs that account."

Reece glanced at the quieter, Ghost. He stood there, rap music booming in his ear from the white earbuds.

Ghost's eyes instantly snapped to Reece's. It was a mystery to how he always knew someone was looking at him.

"How the hell did he..." Robbie whispered, eyebrows furrowing

"Exactly. Supernatural ass." Hakeem joked

Before Ghost could respond, an extremely high pitched voice screamed. The boy sighed dramatically, licking along his lips.

"Blakey baby! Boys!" She screamed, running over to the four with her arms wide open

"This bitch..." Reece mumbled, he never liked the girl. He thought she was weird.

"Shutup nigga." Hakeem sucked his teeth, elbowing Reece

Athena collided into Ghost's chest. He stood there awkwardly, hands to his sides as she hugged him tightly. He was very uncomfortable, hating physical touch.

"Get off me." He mumbled, pushing her away softly

Reece stifled his laughter, looking away from the scene. Athena ignored that embarrassing moment, gripping her purse with a tight lipped smile.

"Are you guys still going to Coney Island?" She asked, batting her eyelashes at them

"Yes!" Hakeem confirmed excitedly, receiving a crazy but confused look from the other three boys

Hakeem shrugged his shoulders, he didn't understand why they acted so uninterested in Athena when she was the finest girl in school, to him at least.

"This nigga down bad." Robbie whispered to himself

Reece agreed, shaking his head with a disappointed face "Bad not even the word, he's sick in the head."

Athena yawned cutely, pulling down her shirt to reveal her cleavage "Can I hit it?" She asked, referring to the blunt Robbie was passing to Ghost

Ghost looked at her blankly, putting it to his lips and inhaling before blowing the smoke in her face "No. You can't."

Reece and Robbie bursted into laughter, watching Athena get rejected seemed to be the funniest thing in the world.

"Yoooooooo!" Robbie cackled, running circles around the scene

Hakeem stood there, mouth gaping "What the fuck is wrong with you?" He threw his arm over Athena's shoulders, bringing her into a sympathetic hug

Ghost stepped back onto the wall nonchalantly, ignoring him and everyone else, until he caught soft brown eyes staring at him.

The hairs on the back of his neck stood to attention, shivers running around his body. Time stopped and all he could see was her, no one else but her.
