Sophieâs pov Fury began to bubble within me as I drink in his words.
He didnât seem fazed, or cared about how arrogant he came across. Heâs acting like what he said wasnât at all disrespectful.
Arrogant, annoying ass.
âWhat do you mean I donât have a choice in this Aiden!?â I snapped glaring at him. If only it was possible to bury him.
with such a stare.
Aidenâs nonchalant face doesnât move. âI mean you donât have a say in being my secretary Sophie. Is that so hard for you to understand?â One of his brows slicks up in a taunting lift.
I throw my hands up in frustration. âNo, I donât understand! Why would you make me your secretary Aiden!?â
He crossed his ankles and with the way his teeth trapped his bottom lip for a second, I knew that he was on the verge of smiling.
âWhy else would I make you my secretary Sophie? If not to keep you close to me?â
He was baiting me. I was sure of it. The way his eyes twinkled showed me so.
âSo you admit you just want to keep an eye out on me then? Why?â I seethed in annoyance.
âWhy?â He tilted his head and looked at me in amusement. Was he really taking me as his source of entertainment?
He pretended to think. âWhy would I want to keep the mother of my child close to me?â He hums, tapping his index finger on his cheek in a thinking manner.
âDonât try to make this about Ashton Aiden. You and I both know thatâs not why youâre forcing me to be your secretary. You want revenge on what I did to you and thatâs an easy way to do it if Iâm going to be at your every beck and call.â I snapped, frustration boiling and simmering with that anger inside me.
Aidenâs lips curled into a smirk and the storm in his gaze turn hazy. âRevenge? Now, who said anything about revenge?â He chuckled.
I have to give him props for acting so indifferent and pretending to not have a clue of where Iâm trying to get at.
I shook my head. It was obvious heâd not admit that he wanted revenge on me. Aiden was after all way too smart to fall into a trap like this.
âYouâre frustrating! I donât want to be your secretary Aiden! Iâll go back to work with Bernard but I donât want to be your secretary.â I huffed.
The storm in his eyes turns cold and then darkens. I feared I had just woken up the lion from his slumber.
He pinned me down with that stare and a shiver so cold and electrifying curled down my spine.
His jaw clench and popped and I knew that my words had upset him. Because gone was the indifferent look and now hello to the angry look.
âAre you fucking him?â He asked through clenched teeth. If this was a cartoon show, Aiden would have smoke coming out of his ears.
I blanched in shock. What the hell?
âWhat?â I asked, my eyes widening in shock.
âAre you fucking Bernard Sophie? Why is it that youâre so close to the damn man that youâd do anything to not get him fired?!â He sneered with fury curling on his tongue.
I looked at him in stunned silence. Completely shocked that heâd think this of me.
Why would he even ask such a question? He was trying to fire an innocent man so of course Iâd do anything to be the reason that man canât feed his family!
But when I continued to stare at Aiden, something flashes in his eyes. A moment that the mask in his eyes cracked.
Jealousy.
He was jealous.
Was he jealous of Bernard?
Out of all people, Aiden Xavier was jealous of Bernard!
I didnât know if to laugh or be annoyed that he had the audacity to ask me such a question because of his jealousy.
âYouâre jealous.â I accused with a snort and watch him quickly hide the look of jealousy that had been gleaming under the veil of his eyes.
He huffed tearing his eyes away from me. âDonât be ridiculous why would I be jealous of that old man?â
Him ripping his gaze away from me only showed me that he indeed was jealous.
âThen why would you ask such a stupid question?â I huffed.
He turns back to face me, his features back to showing that he was indifferent. âWas the question that hard to answer Sophie? Itâs a simple yes and no question.â
I raised a brow. Was he really trying to make a U-turn back to his question so heâd not have to answer mine?
I rolled my eyes. His arrogance.was suffocating.
âI donât see why you need to know the answer to that question Aiden. Youâre not obligated to know who I sleep with and donât sleep with. Letâs keep you as Ashtonâs father and nothing more.
His eyes shift in irritation. âAnd thatâs exactly why I need to know if thereâs another man in your life Sophie. I need to know if another man will try to take my spot âWait.â I cut in his angry rant. âWhat spot are you talking about because I just told you, the only spot you have in my life is being Ashtonâs father. That doesnât mean you need to know who I sleep with. And God Aiden, no one can take your spot as Ashtonâs father âYet if I were to have never found out about him and you got yourself a man, then what would have become of that situation Sophie? Would that bastard not have raised my son instead of me?! Would he have not taken my spot!?â He spat cutting me off.
I shook my head and threw my hands up in frustration. âNo one wouldâve taken your spot Aiden because thereâs no one to take it then and now! Iâm not fucking anyone not that itâs your business to know anyway. But would you stop throwing my mistake in my face every damn conversation we have?!â
Iâm seething and Iâm angry and I donât give a damn how loud my voice is. I breathed out and tried to relax while rubbing at my temples.
Every conversation I have with him, I get a migraine lurking behind my lids. He was always frustrating in high school and now he was even more so.
âI know I screwed up Aiden and for the rest of my life, Iâll regret and remember what stupid decision I made by keeping him away from you. But God, for once can you keep it out of the conversation?â
âNo,â Aiden responded bluntly.
