Chapter Eighty-Four
â¡Relicsâ¡
In the hallway, Lydia shows Jake Sullivan's ID to Scott, Malia and Amara, "It's a relic." Lydia said and Malia looked at her confused. "What's a relic?" She asked, "An object with a fix association to the past. Jake's ID was left behind after he was taken and Gwen found her sister's bracelet on her bedroom floor." Lydia said and Malia still looked confused.
"How can someone be erased and still leave something behind?" She asked, "Conservation of mass. The total of mass of any isolated system remains constant." Lydia said and realization crossed over Scott's feature. "So the Ghost Riders have a weakness." He said and Amara nodded slightly, "A relic would be the prove that Stiles existed... We could bring him back."

Amara stood in front of Stilinski at the station as she shows him the ID and explained everything to him and an idea she had. "You wanna search my house." He asked looking at her like she was slightly crazy as she nodded, "People are leaving things behind. So if Stiles left anything-"
"Why it would be there?" He asked cutting her off making her sigh, "You can't just erase people. They leave things behind." She said. Stilinski stared at her for a moment before sighing and setting down the ID card, "I couldn't sleep last night so... I got, figured I'd do some paper work. The files were in the back of the car so I got to the garage and some junk has fallen off the shelf and I stubbed my toe on a baseball bat. Without thinking I yelled a name." He said and Amara nodded slightly.
"Stiles."
A few minutes later Amara and Lydia slowly walks around the living room of Stilinski's house looking for anything that could be a relic. Next to the TV, there are pictures of Sheriff and Claudia together and Amara looked at them before getting interrupted by Claudia. "Something I can do to help." She asked making Amara and Lydia look over at her with an awkward smile.
"No. But thank you, Mrs. Stilinski." Lydia said and Claudia nodded, "Well, good luck. I'll leave you to it." She said before walking away. Lydia sighed softly before glancing around until she saw the hall that the old lady led her down the other night. Amara glanced back as Lydia slowly walks down the hallway and over to the exact spot the old woman was standing. Her brows furrowed slightly when her eyes instantly noticed a line in the wallpaper. She reaches out to touch the wall but then a man appears making her jump slightly.
"You didn't see it, didn't you? It's right in front of your face."
The guy's words echoed as Lydia turned to the wall and once she touches it, she turns her attention back to the guy only to see him gone. "You seeing people again?" Amara asked as she walked up to Lydia who nodded, "I dont know what it is but theirs something about this wall." Lydia said.
Amara looked at the wall before glancing around for a moment before picking at the wallpaper. "What are you doing?" Lydia asked and Amara shrugged slightly, "Investigating." Amara said before she started to pull up a piece of the wallpaper.
All of the sudden someone grabbed her arm making Amara look over to see Claudia. Amara furrowed her brows slightly as she caught the familiar scent of death when Claudia stood next to her. "What are you doing?!" Claudia asked, and Amara didn't answer as she tried to pull his arm away but Claudia had a tight grip on her wrist.
"You gonna let go of me?" Amara asked and Claudia let go of her wrist before turning to look at the ripped wallpaper, "Sorry about that. I shouldn't have done that." Amara said making Claudia look at her and nod. "I think that's something we can agree on." She said and Amara looked at her warily before grabbing Lydia's hand and walking away.

Lydia sat behind the computer in her mother's office with Amara leaning her chin on her shoulder when Natalie and walked in, "Amara, were tearing Cluadia Stilinski's wallpaper off her wall?" Natalie asked incredulously making the girls slowly look up at her. "No." Amara said and Natalie gave her a look, "Yes- It wasn't that big of a tear, take a glue stick to it and you'd hardly notice it." Amara said making Natalie sigh while Lydia chuckled.
"She is worried about your mental health." Natalie said and Amara nodded, "Everyone has for the past like seven or eight years. I bet if I went and told a therapist all my trama, they would quit." Amara said making Natalie sigh. "I saw someone in the hallway. Someone that Mrs. Stilinski and Amara didn't see." Lydia said and Natalie nodded slightly. "If Claudia doesn't see ghosts. That's because her and Amara aren't Banshees." Natalie said.
"What he was trying to help us find whatever Stiles left behind." Amara suggested and Natalie raised her eyebrows, "Did you find something?" She asked. "No. She sent us away before we could find anything." Amara said and Natalie laughs sarcastically and nodded, "That's probably because you were tearing wallpaper."
"It was only a tiny piece!"
Natalie walked around the desk to see the young couple was looking at to find they had found Claudia's student information making her sigh. "Oh, girls. I've known Claudia since high school. I trust her." Natalie said and Amara sighed and shook her head, "There was something off about her."
"Do you know what a confirmation bias is?" Natalie asked, "The tendency to interpret an information in a way to confirm it is really a interception." Lydia answered and Natalie nodded. "Yes! It's a bias perspective. You're looking for prove to support what you believe it's truth. Because you want it to be truth." Natalie said and Amara sighed.
"Stiles is real. I know it." She said and Natalie sighed, "Do you believe there's a possibility he's not?" She asked and Amara shook her head making Natalie nod.
"Okay. Tell me everything you guys know. I'll be your unbiased perspective."
â¡
"You want what?!" Melissa asked incredulously before realizing how loud she was and brought her voice lower as she looked at Amara, Lydia and Natalie, "You want what?" She asked.
"Claudia's medical records. Just for a minute. We know it's a lot to ask." Lydia said and Melissa nodded, "It's up there. It's way up there." She said and Natalie sighed softly. "As the more recently enlightened of the two of us, just trust me. There are lives at stake." She said and Melissa raised her eyebrows at her. "Letting the three of you look at private medical records is completely and utterly against hospital regulations." She said making them look at each other, "So, we better make this fast." Melissa said.
A few minutes later the three of them stood in a back room as Melissa type away on a computer. "Sorry, guys. According to her medical records, Claudia never had children." Melissa said and Amara leaned down to look at the screen before pointing something out.
"Well, but she had-"
"Frontotemporal Dementia..." Melissa trailed off before furrowing her brows, "There must be a mistake." She mumbled as she shook her head. "How long ago? She seems fine now." Natalie asked and Melissa read the screen for a second, "Ten years? I'm surprised she's still alive, honestly. It's a miracle." She said and Amara and Lydia glanced at each other.
â¡
"Is he okay?" Scott asked as Melissa and another nurse wheeled Argent past with Makena and Malia walking next to the bed. "He has blunt force trauma to his temporal bone, three broken ribs, and multiple surface lacerations, which seem to be from whip marks? What he needs is a lot of rest." Melissa said before pushing him into a room.
"What happened?" Amara asked as she and Lydia walked up to them, "The Ghost Riders took everyone. We barely slowed them down." Malia said and Scott turned to Lydia. "Tell us you found something." He said and she signed.
"We found out Claudia never had children. So, Stiles can't be her son." Lydia said and Malia raised her eyebrows. "What about a relic?" Malia asked and Amara just shook her head defeatedly. "There never was a Stiles, was there?" Malia asked and Scott sighed, "They doesn't even sound like a real names." Scott said and Amara shook her head.
"We have to keep looking. Check the school records again, or call Scott's dad-" Amara said and her sister cut her off, "We're fighting the wrong battle." Malia said and Amara shook her head. "We're trying to bring Stiles back." She said and Malia shook her head slightly, "The Ghost Riders came back. We still have no way of stopping them. And whatever they are, they're real. We can't keep chasing people who aren't." Malia said and Amara sighed.
"He didn't leave anything behind... Just us." Amara said as she looked through the window of the room to see her mom sitting next to Argent, holding his hand.
