Chapter Six
ðº Heart Monitor ðº
Scott carried plastic bags full of groceries into a dimly lit parking garage. But after a moment of walking the rows, he pauses. With several confused glances it becomes obvious: he can't remember where he parked.
"Damn it." He mumbled before going back to the door and going up to the fourth level. He walked around, looking from car to car before coming to a halt, still lost. He set the bags down and pulled out his mother's car keys, holding them up, clicking the lock button. He listened for a moment before hearing a distant beep from the level above him making him groan.
He went to pick up the bags again but a bottle of milk fell out and started rolling. "Oh, crap!" He mumbled before chasing after it before sighing as it rolled under a car. Before he could do anything, the bottle slowly rolled back, trailing milk behind from four small punctured holes.
Scott furrowed his brows before hearing a low growl making him slowly look up. He slowly rises to a standing position, turns and just runs for it. Pounding the pavement, he glanced back to see a dark shape hurtle from behind a parked car, loping on all fours, it's coming right for him. Scott tears around the next corner, diving into the shadows behind a car.
The garage lies silent except for his own pounding heart. He gazes down at his chest all too aware of the loud thumping. Closing his eyes, he tries to calm his breathing before getting up.
He leaps onto the hood of a car making the alarm blare before he jumps onto another car, making it's alarm turn on as well. He quickly goes from car to car, every single one's alarm going off, making the sound of his rapid heart beat.
He turned the corner and ran in between two car, taking a deep breath as all he could hear was the car alarms. That was until his phone started ringing making his eyes widen. "No. No, stop." He mumbled as he tried to quickly get his phone out of his pocket.
All of the sudden, someone grabbed his shoulders, pulling him up before slamming him down onto the car. He looked up at them wide eyed before sighing in relief when he saw it was Amara looking at him in amusement. "And now you're dead." Amara said as Derek walked up to the car with his arms crossed.
Amara jumped off the car, holding her hand out to help Scott up and Derek started walking making Amara follow him while Scott caught his breath before quickly going after them. "What? What the hell was that?" Scott asked and Amara turned around to look at him while walking backwards, "We said we were gonna teach you- We didn't say when... Or how." She said before turning back around.
"You scared the crap out of me!" Scott yelled and Derek glanced at him, "Not yet." He said making Amara laugh. "Okay, but I was fast, right?" Scott asked and Derek shook his head, "Not fast enough." He said and Scott scoffed slightly. "But-but the car alarm thing! That was smart, right?" He asked and Amara nodded and looked at him, "Yes, actually... Until your phone rang." She said.
"Yeah, but that was- I mean- Would you just stop? Please?" Scott asked and they all slowed to a stop before looking at him as he sighed, "What happened the other night- Stiles' dad almost getting hurt- that was my fault. I should have been there to do something. I need you guys to teach me how to control this." He said and Derek sighed.
"Look, Amara and I are what we are because of birth. You were bitten." Derek said and Amara raised her hand slightly, "I'm a Pyro Witch because I saw my dad burning to death." She said making Derek sigh and shake her head. "Teaching someone who was bitten takes time. I don't even know if I can teach you." He said and Scott sighed, "What do I have to do?" He asked.
"First off, you have to get rid of some distractions." Deem said before be grabbed Scott's phone and held it up to see a missed call from Allison, "You see this? This is why I caught you. You want us to teach you? Get rid of her." He said and Scott scoffed.
"What, just because of her family?" Scott asked and Derek raised his eyebrows and glanced down at the phone before suddenly throwing it at the wall. "Wait! Wait! Whoa, whoa-" Scott yelled while Amara smacked her cousin's arm, "Hey now. Phone's aren't cheep." She said as Derek turned back to Scott.
"You getting angry? That's your first lesson. You want to learn how to control this. How to shift- you do it through anger, by tapping into a primal animal rage, and you can't do that with her around!" Derek said and Scott glared at Derek. "I can get angry." Scott said and Derek shook his head, "Not angry enough! This is the only way that I can teach you." Derek said and Amara sighed and pinch the bridge of her nose.
"Now, can you stay away from her? At least until after the full moon?" Derek asked and Scott nodded slightly, "If that's what it takes." He said. "Do you want to live? Do you want to protect your friends? Yes, or no?" Derek asked and Scott nodded, "Yes. If you can teach me, I can stay away from her." He said and Amara shook her head slightly.
"This is so dramatic for no reason."
A little while later Amara walked into the house, "Oh, birth-giver! I'm home!" Amara called out. "Kitchen!" Makena said and Amara walked into the kitchen to see her mom reading over a couple files. "What are you doing?" Amara asked while grabbing a water from the fridge, "You know how I've been trying to find a cause of the fire?" Makena said and Amara nodded.
"Yeah, all we could rule it down was to the Argents. We just dont know which Argent." Amara said and Makena nodded before sighing, "I know that I usually strongly advise against being and having a fake friend... But I think you should become friends with that Argent girl. Allison." Makena said making Amara furrow her brows.
"So, Derek's telling Scott to stay away from her and now you're telling me to befriend her?" Amara asked and Makena sighed and nodded, "I think it might help us figure this out. You know, listen to what her family talks about, what she says about her family. Once we figure out a who, I can find the proof against them." Makena said and Amara sighed and gave her mom a look.
"But... I suck at talking to girls." Amara said and Makena looked at her in amusement, "I guess with this be good practice then." She said making Amara groan. "You know, you went from being a US Marshal to a bounty hunter, to a private investigator, to a Beacon Hills Deputy. You've really gone down on food chain, mom." Amara said making Makena chuckle and raise her eyebrows..
"Well you kind have to go down on the food chain when you're pregnant with and then raising the spawn of Satan." Makena said making Amara smile at her.

Scott walked into class and Stiles looked up and saw him and instantly looked away making Scott sighed. Scott went to sit behind Stiles while Amara was already sitting next to Stiles. "You still not talking to me?" Scott asked and Stiles just ignored him, "Your dad's okay right? Amara grabbed him before be could get hurt?" Scott asked, still nothing.
"You know I feel really bad about it?" Still nothing, "Okay, what if I told you that I'm trying to figure this out? And that I went to Derek and Amara for help." Scott said. Amara watched in amusement as Stiles looked like he was mentally fighting himself before finally turning to Scott, "If I was talking to you, I'd tell you that you're an idiot for trusting Derek. But obviously I'm not talking to you." Stiles said then turned back around in his seat while Amara silently chuckled.
Amara turned to Scott and started counting down with her fingers by five and as soon as she hit one Stiles turned back around. "What did he say?" Stiles asked making Scott smile.
ðº
Stiles, Scott and Amara walk out to the field with the boy's lacrosse equipment. At the benches, Stiles pulls out a black strap with a digital display at its center. "Put this on." He said handing to Scott who took it and looked at Stiles weird, "Isn't that one of the heart rate monitors for the track team?" He asked and Stiles nodded. "Yeah, I borrowed it." He said making Amara raised her eyebrows, "Stole it." She said.
"Temporarily misappropriated." Stiles said defensively, "Coach uses it to monitor his heart rate with his phone while he jogs, and you're gonna wear it for the rest of the day." He said the held up Coach's phone. "Isn't that Coach's phone?" Scott asked and Stiles nodded, "That... I stole." He said making Amara hummed and shake her head slightly. "Why?" Scott asked.
"All right, well, your heart rate goes up when you go wolf, right? When you're playing lacrosse, when you're with Allison, whenever you get angry... Maybe learning to control it is tied to learning to control your heart rate." Stiles explains and Scott started to grow a small smile.
"Like the Incredible Hulk?"
"Kind of like the Incredible Hulk."
"I'm the Incredible Hulk."
"Shut up and put the strap on." Stiles said and Amara chuckled and hit his shoulder, "Hey, that's what she said to me last night." She said making Scott chuckled while Stiles raided his eyebrows at her. "Where? In your dreams? Because you are so awkward to actually talk to girls." He said making her look at him offended, "So uncalled for." She mumbled.
A few minutes later Scott stands with his hands behind his back as Stiles duct tapes his wrists together. "This is not exactly how I planned to spend my free period." Scott said and Stiles moved to stand next to Amara a little ways away from Scott. Stiles picks up a lacrosse stick and glances down at his phone to look at the heart monitor, "Ready?"
"No."
"Remember. Don't get angry." Stiles drops a handful of lacrosse balls at his feet and picks up his lacrosse stick, "I'm starting to think this is a really bad-" Scott started to say but then a lacrosse ball soars right into Scott's leg making him groan.
With a slight smile, Stiles picks up another ball and tosses it. This one nails Scott in the shoulder. "Okay, that kind of hurt." Scott grunted, "Quiet. You should be thinking about your heart rate. About staying calm." Stiles says and holds up his phone to show Scott's rising heart rate.
"Okay, stay calm. Staying calm.
Staying totally calm-" Scott mumbles to himself then lacrosse ball whacks him in the knee making him groan, "Son of a bitch." Scott said. "I think aim is improving!" Stiles said as he twirls the lacrosse stick in his hands. "Wanna try?" Stiles asked and Amara pursed her lips, "Sure." She said before picking up a ball.
Stiles held out the lacrosse stick and she shook her head and waved him off. "I don't need it." She said before clearing her throat slightly, looking over at Scott as she tossed the ball back and forth in her hands. "Remind me what you said the other day at the hospital when you saw my dad." Amara said making Scott sighed, "Amara, I said I was sorry like five times. I wasn't thinking when I said it." He said and she nodded.
"I know. Still mad about it though." She said before forcefully throwing the ball at him, hitting him square in the chest. Amara laughed to herself as she and Stiles high-fived while Scott groaned and nodded, "I deserved that." He said.
Another ball flies, whacking Scott right in the stomach. He gasps for breath, doubling over. Then another shot nails him in the thigh. "All right, hold on. Just stop." Scott says but the next ball hits him right in the neck. Scott stumbles. With his hands taped behind him, he falls to his knees.
Stiles moves to pick up another ball with the lacrosse stick, but he pauses at the sound of gravelly rumbling coming towards him. A growl then a beeping sound catches his and Amara's attention. Stiles looks down at the heart rate to see the numbers climbing at an alarming speed.
"Scott?" They look up from his phone to see Scott kneeling on the grass. Both of his hands digging into the dirt, strands of torn duct tape around his wrists. He ripped the duct tape apart. "Stay back." Scott grunted and Amara cautiously pulls Stiles behind her just incase.
After a couple minutes, Stiles and Amara looked ran over to Scott who looks up, sweat dripping down his forehead. "You started to change." Amara said and Scott nodded, "From anger. But it was more than that. The angrier I got, the stronger I felt."
"Then it is anger. Which means Derek's right?" Stiles said and Scott shook his head slightly, "I can't be around Allison." Scott said making Amara furrow her brows. "Why? Just because she makes you happy?" She asked and Scott shook his head, "Because she makes me weak." Scott said as he slumps down, sitting on the grass.
ðº
Amara walked down the hallway before stopping when she saw Allison sitting on the ground reading. Amara glanced around in a alarm, but she didnt have any choice then to walk past her. That's when she remembered what her mom said last night making her sigh softly before awkwardly walking over to Allison.
"What are you reading?" She asked making Allison jump slightly before looking up at her, "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you." Amara said and Allison smiled and shook her head. "It's fine, and uh- Just stuff for a history project." Allison said and Amara raised her eyebrows as she looked at the cover of the book, "We have an assignment on The Beast of Gévaudan?" She asked making Allison look at her shocked.
"You know about the Beast of Gévaudan?" She asked and Amara nodded as she say down next to Allison, "I was cursed with a history buff of a mother. Anything weird or somewhat unexplainable, my mom knows about it and trust me- she tells me about it." Amara said and Allison chuckled nodded before clearing her throat slightly.
"You have a free period, or...?" She asked and Amara shook her, "No. I actually have chemistry right now but Harris told me mom about the rotten egg I put in his bag last semester so I'm trying to avoid him." She said making Allison laugh and furrow her brows slightly.
"That's understandable... Why did you put a rotten egg in his bag?" She asked and Amara raised her eyebrows, "Uh, because he's Mr. Harris. Why else?" She asked making Allison laugh. "So, why are you reading about the Beast of Gévaudan?" Amara asked and Allison sighed softly, "It's something my aunt told me about." She said and Amara's eyes widen.
"Your aunt...?" She asked and Allison nodded, "My aunt Kate. Apparently one of my ancestors killed the beast of Gévaudan." Allison said and Amara nodded slowly. "Oh... Cool. That's- That's fascinating..." Amara said awkwardly before cringing at herself.

A pile of books drops down on the teacher's desk as students hurry in for the start of class. Coach Finstock glares up at them, "Let's go! Sit, sit, sit, sit. We got a lot to cover today. Let's go! Quicker!" He said as Scott, Stiles walked into the class. They take their seats as the classroom fills up and Scott looks up to see Amara and Allison walk in making Scott look at Stiles wide eyed, "Stiles, take the seat behind me."
Stiles move to take the seat but is to late as Allison sets her stuff down on it making Stiles back away and sit down in the seat he was originally in. "I haven't seen you all day." Allison whispered making Scott slightly turn his head towards her, "Uh, yeah, I've been, uh, super busy." Scott said nervously. "When are you gonna get your phone fixed? I feel like I'm totally disconnected from you. I changed lab partners, by the way." Allison said Scott raise his eyebrows.
"Oh, to who?" Scott asked making Allison chuckle, "To you, dummy!" She said. "Me? I mean, are you sure?" Scott asked suprised, "Yeah! This way, I have an excuse to bring you home and study. You don't mind, do you?" Allison asked and Scott shook his head, "I just- I don't want to bring your grade down." Scott said and she chuckled. "Well, I mean, maybe I can bring your grade up. Come to my place tonight. Eight-thirty?" She asked and he raised his eyebrows, "Tonight?" He asked and she nodded.
"Let's settle down! Let's start with a quick summary of last night's reading." Coach said and a few hands went up,
"Greenberg, put your hand down. Everyone knows you did the reading. How about, uh...McCall?" He said making Scott look up at him alarmed. "What?"
The reading." Coach said and Scott raised his eyebrows, "Last night's reading?" He asked. "No, the reading of the Gettysburg Address." Coach said sarcastically making Scott furrow his brows, "What?" He asked.
"That was sarcasm, McCall. Familiar
with the concept?" Coach asked and Scott nodded, "Very." He said glancing back at Stiles and Amara, who smiled proudly. "You do the reading or not?" Coach asked and Scott slightly shook his head, "I think I forgot."
"Okay, then. Nice work. Because it's
not like you're averaging a D in this class. You do know I can't keep you on the team with a D, McCall?" He waits patiently for Scott to respond. Everyone looks at him, some laughing. Stiles tapped Amara's desk making her look at him and he nodded to the phone under his desk that shows Scott's heart rate rising steadily.
"How about you summarize the previous night's reading? No? How about the night before? How about you summarize anything you've ever read? In your entire life." Flustered, Scott blinks up at him while Stiles and Amara watched the heart rate monitor on his phone continue to rise.
"No? A blog? How about, uh, how about, uh... the back of a cereal box? No? How about the adults-only warning from your favorite website you visit every night? Anything?Thank you, McCall. Thank you. Thank you, McCall! Thank you for extinguishing any last flicker of hope I have for your generation. You just blew it for everybody. Thanks. Next practice, you can start with suicide runs. Unless that's too much reading."
Stiles and Amara watch with dismay at the heart rate monitor until the numbers start dropping, strangely fast. They glances over to see why, Allison had reached under Scott's desk to intertwine her fingers in his. They sit there linked while Scott's heartbeat falls to perfect calm making Stiles and Amara glance at each other in realization.
ðº
"It's her." Stiles said as they walked out of class, "What do you mean?" Scott asked. "It's Allison. Remember what you told me about the night of the full moon? You were thinking about her. About protecting her." Stiles said and Scott nodded, "Okay."
"So remember the first lacrosse game? You said you could hear her voice out on the field." Stiles said and Scott nodded, "Yeah. I did." He said. "That's what brought you back so you could score. And then in the locker room, you didn't kill her. At least not like you were trying to kill me. She brings you back." Stiles said and Scott furrowed his brows, "But it's not always true. Because literally every time I'm kissing her or touching her-"
"That's not the same. When you're doing that you're just another hormonal teenager thinking about sex." Amara said and noticed the distanced look on Scott's face, "See, you're thinking about sex right now. Aren't you?" She asked. Gazing off with a slight smile at his lips, Scott snaps back to attention when Amara smacked the back of his head. "Yeah, sorry." He mumbled, running the back of his head.
"That's fine. Look, back in the classroom, when she was holding your hand, that was different, okay? I don't think she makes you weak- I-I think she actually gives you control. She's kind of like an anchor." Stiles explained and Scott nodded, "You mean, because I love her?" Scott said and Stiles nodded, "Exactly."
Just then Scott realized what he said making his eyes widen, "Did I just say that?" He asked, completely shocked st himself. "Yes, you just said that." Stiles said, "I love her." Scott said and Stiles nodded. "That's great. Moving on-"
"No, I do. I really do. I think I'm totally in love with her." Scott said and Amara sighed impatiently, "You've been dating for less than a month, no you don't. Now, before you go off and write a sonnet can we figure this out? Because you obviously can't be around her all the time." Amara said and Scott nodded, looking more determined. "Okay, what do I do?"
Stiles stops, an idea coming to mind making Amara sigh, "I've always hated that look on your face." She said and Stiles rolled his eyes. "You're getting an idea, aren't you?" Scott asked and Stiles nodded his head, "Yeah."
"Could this idea get me in trouble?" Scott said and Stiles nodded, "Maybe." He said. "Is this idea going to cause me physical pain?" Scott asked and Stiles smiled, "Definitely."
ðº
Scott and Amara followed Stiles around the school to the edge of the parking lot where several large dumpsters sit concealing a few seniors. They hang out there laughing and talking while smoking. "You stand here." Stiles said pulling Amara over behind the truck then went back to Scott. "Over here." He said moving Scott over a couple feet, "What are we doing?" Scott asked.
"You'll see. Stand right here. Do you have your keys?" Stiles asked and Scott nodded and pulled them out, "Hold them up. Like this. Now, whatever happens I want you to think about Allison. Find her voice like you did at the game? Got it?" Stiles said and Scott nodded, "Good. Keep holding the keys."
Stiles walks over to the Senior's truck and takes out his own car keys. Then in a quick few seconds, Stiles drags his key across the side of the Senior's truck, digging a hideous scratch into the paint. Amara cringed slightly, watching in shock as Stiles moved to stand next to her, looking at Scott.
"Hey, hey, hey, dude! What do you think you're doing to that truck, bro?" Stiles yelled making the Seniors turn around to see Scott holding his car keys up. "What the hell?!?"
Scott steps back as Stiles gives him a devilish smile. The Seniors are on him in a nanosecond. Scott puts up his arms trying to protect himself. But they literally start beating the ever-loving crap out of him. Stiles eyes his phone to note the rising heart rate while Scott crumbles to the pavement under the merciless pummeling.
"This is very amusing." Amara said and Stiles laughed, "I know right?" He said looking over at her with a smile making her chuckle and shake her head."Stop! Stop right now! What do you idiots think you're doing?" Mr. Harris says as he breaks up the fight. Scott lies on the ground, blood dripping from his nose. He slowly turns to Stiles who holds his phone up. The scree shows a steady and normal heartbeat.
It worked.
ðº
Amara, Scott and Stiles sit in the otherwise empty classroom while Mr. Harris reads the paper. Pulling a wad of tissues away from his nose, Scott turns to Harris, "Excuse me, sir? Uh, I know it's detention and all, but, uh... I'm supposed to be at work, and I don't want to get fired." He said and Harris ignores him. Scott sits quietly with Stiles and Amara for a moment before turning to whisper to them, "You knew I would heal."
"Yep." Stiles said and Scott raised his eyebrows, "So you did that to help me learn." He said and Stiles nodded. "Yep." Stiles said and Amara smirked slightly, "But partially to punish him, right?" She asked and Stiles smiled at her.
"Yep."
"For not being there the other day.
When your Dad almost got hurt." Scott said and Stiles didn't respond this time, just staring ahead. "You're my best friend. I don't want you to be angry at me." Scott said before looking at Amara, "Same for you. I dont want you to be mad at me because I said something incredibly stupid." He said and Amara and Stiles looked at each other for a moment before Stiles sighed.
"You have something, Scott. Whether you want it or not. You can do things other people can't. That means you don't have a choice anymore. It means you have to do something." Stiles said and Scott nodded, "I know. And I will." He said. "All right. All of you. Out of here." Harris says making the three instantly grab their bags and run out.
ðº
Stiles's Jeep roars into the lot and he, Amara and Scott get out. "This is a terrible idea." Amara said as she looked at them them and Scott sighed and nodded, "I know." He said and she raised her eyebrows. "And we're still going to do it." She asked and he shrugged, "Can you think of something better?" He asked and Stiles pursed his lips.
"Personally, I'm a big fan of ignoring a problem and hoping it goes away." Stiles said making Scott roll his eyes, "Just make sure we can get inside." Scott said and Stiles yanks out a set of bolt cutters. A pair of headlights approach as Derek's Camaro parks in a nearby space. Derek kills the engine and steps out from behind the wheel and the three walk over to him.
"Where's my boss?" Scott demanded and Derek nodded to the back of his car, "In the back." Scott, Amara and Stiles peek inside the Camaro to see Deaton, bound, gagged and blindfolded. "Comfy." Amara muttered then she, Scott and Stiles started walking to the school doors.
"Wait hey! What are you doing?" Derek asked and they turned to him, "You said I'm linked with the Alpha. I'm going to see if you're right." Scott said before they walked into the school.
"One question... What do you plan on doing if the Alpha doesn't show up?" Amara asked as they walked into the office and Scott sighed, "I don't know." He said and she hummed. "And what are you gonna do if he does show up?" She asked and he shook his head slightly, "...I don't know." He said making her sigh.
"Wow, I am so proud of how much thought you've put into this suicide plan, Scott." She said sarcastically as Stiles walked around the desk, pressing buttons on the intercom controls. "All right- you said that a wolf howls to signal his position to the rest of the pack, right?" Scott asked and they nodded, "Right. But, if you bring him here, does that make you part of his pack?" Stiles asked and Scott sighed.
"I hope not..." He said and Stiles nodded, "Yeah, me, too." He said and Amara shrugged slightly. "Not necessarily. Any Werewolf in town would be able to hear another Werewolf's roar and know how to track it. It's just easier if you're in a pack together. But an Alpha can always track their beta's roar, even if you're not in their pack." She said and Stiles put the microphone on the desk.
"All right. All you." He said and Scott cleared his throat before taking a deep breath and pressing down the button on the microphone. Amara had to cover her ears to try to block out the loud gurgled shrill of a howl that Scott released. "Oh my fucking god." Amara muttered while Stiles out his head in his hands.
"Was that okay? I mean, that was a howl, right?" Scott asked and Amara shook her head while Stiles nodded slightly. "...I... Yeah, technically..." Stiles said and Scott raised his eyebrows, "Well, what did it sound like to you?" He asked and Amara gave him a look.
"That depends, were you trying to howl or were you choking a crying baby?" She asked making Scott groan, "What do I do? How am I supposed to do this?" He asked and Amara sighed and grabbed his shoulders to make him look at her. "Listen, you're calling the Alpha, all right? Take a deep breath and be a man and a Werewolf." She said and Stiles nodded in agreement, "Not a Teen Wolf. Be a Werewolf. Do it." He said.
Scott nodded and took a deep breath as Amara stepped away from him, "Okay." He mumbled before pressing the button again. Amara covered her ears just in case, right before Scott released a deep, loud roar that shook the building. "How was that?" He asked and Amara laughed as she lowered her hands and nodded, "Now that was a roar." She said making him smile.
A couple minutes later the three walked out and Derek walked towards them, "I'm gonna kill all three of you!" He said and Amara raised her eyebrows in amusement. "No you wont." She said and he ignored her, "What the hell was that? What are you trying to do, attract the entire state to the school?" Derek asked and Scott smiled sheepishly.
"Sorry... I didn't know it would be that loud..." He said and Stiles nodded in excitement, "Yeah, it was loud... and it was awesome!" He said making Derek glare at him. "Shut up." He said and Stiles scoffed slightly, "Don't be such a sour-wolf!" He said but then Scott noticed something behind Derek.
"What'd you do with him?" He asked making them look at him confused, "What?" Derek asked. They looked over at the camaro to see the back seat completely empty and the door opened. No sign of Deaton anywhere.
"I didn't do anything..." Derek said as he glanced around before all of the sudden he jerked forward making them look at him. Amara's eyes widened as blood spurts from his mouth as he rises up into the air, held aloft by something dark and large behind him.
Amara was about to run over to her cousin but Scott and Stiles grabbed her arms, pulling her back as Derek's body goes flying, slamming into the brick wall of the school and dropping down. The guys quickly pulled Amara back towards the school.
They pulled her into the hallway before yanking the double doors of the school shut. Holding them closed, the guys looked at Amara who ran a hand through her hair while leaning against the wall with a distant look on her face.
