Chapter Twenty-Five

⊚ Tattoo ⊚

"Boy, it's a good thing you drew me a picture..." A tattoo artist said as he looked at a poorly drawn picture of two lines, one thicker than the other. "See, I told you there was no point." Amara said making Scott look over at her as she flipped though one of the books of tattoo designs

"Hey, Scott! You sure you don't want something like this?" Stiles asked as he held up a drawing of a large lizard monster making Scott give him a look while Amara chuckled. "Too soon?" Stiles asked before nodding slightly, "Yeah..." He said and Amara held up the book she was looking through.

"What about this one?" Amara asked making them look over at a tattoo design of a Werewolf that you'd see in an older movie. "Are you sure that's not too soon for you?" Stiles asked making her squint at him, "Irrelevant." She said making Scott chuckle and shake his head.

"I don't know, man. Are you sure about this? I mean, these things are pretty permanent, you know?" Stiles asked and Scott shook his head slightly, "I'm not changing my mind." He said and Amara walked over to stand next to Stiles. "Why the two bands?" She asked and he shrugged slightly, "I just like it." He said and she nodded.

"Fair."

"But don't you think your first tattoo should have some sort of meaning? You know, or something?" Stiles asked and Scott nodded slightly, "Getting a tattoo means something." He said and Stiles raised his eyebrows. "I don't think that's-" He started to say but the tattoo artist cut him off, "He's right. Tattooing goes back thousands of years. The Tahitian word tatua means 'to leave a mark,' like a rite of passage." He said and Amara pointed at him and nodded.

"He's right." She said and Scott chuckled, "Yeah, see? He gets it!" He said and Stiles scoffed. "He's covered in tattoos, Scott-literally." Stiles said and Amara chuckled and patted his shoulder, "You're just jealous that he's cooler than you." She said making him roll his eyes while the tattoo artist turned to Scott.

"Okay, you ready?" He asked and Scott took a deep breath and nodded, "You ain't got any problems with needles, do you?" He asked and Scott shook his head. "Nope!" He said and the guy nodded before turning on the tattoo machine, "I tend to get a little squeamish, though, so..." Stiles said as the guy started the tattoo.

Amara watched in amusement as Scott cringed in pain before all of the sudden Stiles fell to the ground. Amara glanced down at Stiles for a moment before looking at the tattoo artist, "Do you have a sharpie?"

After a little while the three of them climbed into the jeep and Scott looked down at his bandaged arm. "You okay?" Amara asked, turning to look at Scott who sat in the back as he furrowed his, "Kinda burns..." He said and Stiles nodded as he held an ice pack to his head.

"Yes, you just had your skin stabbed about one hundred thousand times with a needle..." He said and Scott shook his head slightly, "Yeah, but I don't think it's supposed to feel like this." He said and Azalea smirked slightly as Scott jumped and groaned in pain.

"Oh, God... No, it's definitely not supposed to feel like this! Oh, I gotta take this thing off!" He said and Stiles shook his head, "No, no, no, no, Scott! Oh, Scott, please stop!" Stiles said, cringing as Scott took off the bandage. There was two black bands around Scott's arm, surrounded by red soreness.

Slowly, both the tattoo and the redness slowly disappear, "Oh, no! What? No, no, come on!" Scott mumbled as they watched as his arm looked like there was never a tattoo there to begin with. "It healed." Scott said and Stiles sighed, "Aw, thank God. I hated it." He said making Scott give him a look.

"Sorry..."

Amara chuckled quietly as she smiled smugly while Scott look at her, "Did you know that would happen?" He asked and she nodded. "I have a tattoo Scott. Dub" She said and his jaw dropped slightly, "Wha- Why didn't you tell me?" He asked and she shrugged slightly.

"I was wanted to see how long it would take for common sense to kick in. You can heal from and a bullet wound, what made you think you wouldn't heal from a few needles?" She asked and he sighed and frowned slightly looking down at his arm.

"No, we agreed to give each other the summer- no texts, no calls." Amara said as they pulled to a red light, "So, then how do you know she won't be back at school, then?" Stiles asked, looking over at Amara before his eyes widened when he saw something outside of Amara's window. He glanced back at Scott and  subtly nodded out the window making Scott look over before eyes widened too.

"I'm not sure she's coming back at all." Amara said while looking down at her phone and Scott nodded slightly, "I think she is. I'd say it's pretty definite, you know... Like, one hundred percent..." Scott said as he kept looking from Amara to the window making Amara look back at him confused.

Amara followed his line of sight and froze slightly when she saw Lydia and Allison in the car next to them. Allison glanced over at the jeep before both her and Amara's eyes widened as they quickly looked away from each other. "Oh my god- Why me?" Amara panicked as she sunk down in her seat.

"Can we just drive, please?" Amara asked making Scott glance out at the road, "It's a red light!" He said and she shrugged. "Who cares, theres not cops around." She said and he shook his head, "I think we should talk to her. I just think we should say something. Don't you think so, Scott?" Stiles asked as he looked back at Scott who nodded in agreement making Stiles lean over to roll down Amara's window.

"No! No, no, Stiles! Come on dude, no!" Amara panicked as Stiles rolled down the window, "Hey!" He called out and Lydia quickly drove off, running the red light. "You know, they probably didn't see us." Stiles said as he pursed his lips and Amara gave him a dirty look.

Stiles waited until the light turned green before starting to drive making Amara look at him crazy. "What are you doing?" She asked and Stiles furrowed his brows, "I'm driving...?" He said. "We're right behind them." Amara said and Stiles nodded, "Okay, well, do you see any turns?" He asked.

"I don't want it to look like we're following them." Amada said making Stiles glance at her, "Well, what do you want me to do?" Stiles said and Amara shrugged. "I don't know- anything." She said and Stiles sighed before pressing down on the breaks.

"Are we really gonna sit in the middle of the road because you're too scared to see Allison?" Scott asked and Amara groaned slightly in embarrassment, "I know I sound insane. But I kissed her and then walked away. You wouldnt be able to face her either." She said.

All of the sudden they heard screaming coming from the car making them all quickly get out and run over as Lydia and Allison climbed out of the car. "Are you okay?" Amara asked as she ran up to Allison while Stiles ran up to Lydia. "It came out of nowhere!" Lydia said in panic as Scott slowly walked over to the deer that was laying across the hood with its head through the window.

"Are you hurt?" Stiles asked and Lydia shook her head slightly, "It ran right into us!" Lydia said. "Are you okay?" Amara asked as she gently grabbed Allison's arms and she nodded, "I'm okay." She said and Lydia looked at them. "Well, I'm not okay! I am totally freaking out! How the hell does it just run into us? I saw its eyes right before it hit us, and it was like it... It was like it was crazy." Lydia said..

"No." Scott said as looked at the deer's body, "It was scared. Actually... it was terrified."

"Ready to go?" Makena asked as she walked into Amara's room but she didnt look up from her phone. "Anything?" He asked and she sighed and shook her head, "Nothing and Derek hasn't heard anything from him either." Amara said making Makena sigh. "Maybe his phone is just dead and it's nothing serious." Makena suggested and Amara raised her eyebrows.

"We live in Beacon Hills, mom. Not answering your phone is almost always something bad." She said and she sighed and nodded slightly, "Let's just not freak out over it, you have school soon and I have an early birthday present for you." She asked and Amara raised her eyebrows.

"What present?" Amara asked and Makena smile, "Why don't you come look." She said before walking away. Amara quickly followed her towards the garage, "Now, this was my father's that he left me. I don't have a license for it but you do." Makena said making Amara furrow her brows.

"And if you crash it, you're grounded until college." Makena said before opened the door to the garage to reveal a Harley Davidson motorcycle making Amara's eyes widen. "That's mine?!" Amara asked, looking at her mother shocked and Makena smiled and nodded, "Yep." She said before holding out the keys.

Amara quickly grabbed them before excitedly running over to the bike. "Oh and do forget. The Lunar Eclipse is coming soon, it's gonna start affecting the both of us any day now." Makena said and Amara raised her eyebrows slightly, "Right... How does it affect us again?" She asked making her mother sigh. "It makes me have Protector, Healer and Necromancer magic and you have all four elements for a few weeks until it ends." Makena said and Amara nodded.

"Right. Yes, now I remember."

Scott pulled into a parking spot on his new green and white dirt bike and took his helmet off before noticing two black motorcycles next to him. A bike pulled up next to him making him look over as Amara pull off her helmet before smiling at her friend who chucked and shook his head slightly.

"You just had to one up me, didn't you?" Scott jokingly asked making Amara chuckle as she got off before noticing the other two motorcycles. "Wonder who those belong to." She said and he glanced over at them and nodded, "Yeah." He said.

The start of second period, Lydia and Allison file in with other students all quickly laying claim to desks for the semester. Looking about, Allison finds only one empty seat remaining... in front of Amara. "Hey. Anyone sitting-" Allison started to ask making Amara look up at her wide eyed before shaking her head.

"Nope, no one. All yours. Totally... vacant." Amara said awkwardly and Allison gave her a small smile as she sat down while Amara cringed slightly. Amara glanced back at Scott and Stiles who both gave Amara a thumbs up making her groan slightly.

All of the sudden her phone when off along with everyone else's making her furrow her brows. She was about to look at her phone when someone spoke up. "The offing was barred by a black bank of clouds and the tranquil waterway, leading to the uttermost ends of the earth, flowed somber under an overcast sky, seemed to lead into the heart of an immense darkness." They said making everyone look up as the teacher, Miss. Blake walked into class.

"This is the last line to the first book we are going to read. It is also the last text you will receive in this class. Phones off, everyone." Miss. Blake said, smiling at the class as she leaned against her desk and Amara squinted at her slightly as she put her phone on silent.

About fifteen minutes into doing work, Allison reached back and dropped a note on Amara's desk. Amara opener the note to see Allison had wrote: Can we talk?

Amara took a deep breath, glancing at Allison before looking down at her work. "If you don't want to wait, I can mentally talk to people. You just gotta think about me and talk." Amara thought making Allison's eyes widen before glancing back at Amara when she heard Amara's voice in her head. Amara awkwardly smiled at her before Allison turned back around and glanced around slightly.

"You can do that?" Amara heard Allison's voice in her head say, "Yeah, is because of body heat, part of my magic. I don't do it often, it can get mentally draining." Amara thought. "We can talk after class." Allison said and Amara took a deep breath before sitting back in her seat.

"Mr. McCall." Miss. Blake said making Scott look up to see her wave him over by the door. Scott grabbed his things and started to get up, "Someone's in trouble." Amara whispered making him nudge her slightly as he walked past her.

A couple minutes later, all of the sudden something hits the window just over Lydia's shoulder. Loud enough to turn Jennifer from the chalkboard. The students watch her slowly approach to look out when suddenly a bird slams into the window.

Jennifer flinches back, a hand coming to her mouth as if to stifle a scream. Another bird flies into the window, then a third. Dozens of birds appear out of the sky almost instantaneously. They slam violently into the glass, one after another. A crack ripples through the panes, causing students to rise from their desks.

"Get down, everyone! Get down! Down! Get down!"

Glass shatters as birds smash through the windows, filling the room in a spectacular frenzy. Students tumble out of chairs, desks clatter amid screams and shrieks of panic. Amara grabbed Allison pulling her down and covering her head while Jennifer draws students behind her desk.

After a while the sound of wings flapping stopped making Stiles, Lydia, Amara, Allison and the other cowering students slowly gaze about at an utterly bizarre sight. Dozens upon dozens of birds lying dead on the classroom floor.

Amara sat on one of the desks as she wiped away some blood from her forehead with an alcohol wipe that the school nurse had brought over. "I heard you talking about an earthquake... Yeah, an earthquake isnt what's coming." Amara said, looking at Stiles who sighed and nodded. "In this town? Of course not." Stiles said before hearing Stilinski say something to Argent.

"I'm sorry. I-I could've sworn I overheard my son talking about how you were an experienced hunter..." He said making Amara give Stiles a look and he squinted his eyes sheepishly.

Derek takes Scott's arm, inspecting it as his eyes flare with a red glow, "Yeah, I see it. It's two bands, right? What does it mean?" Derek asked and Scott shrugged. "I don't know... It's just something I trace with my fingers." Scott said as he presses his finger to a dust covered side table next to him and traces a circle then with two fingers, he draws a larger circle around the first.

"Why's this so important to you?" Derek asked and Scott lowers his eyes, as if trying to decide whether to share this. "Do you know what the word "tattoo" means?" Scott asked and Stiles leaned in a bit with a smile, "To mark something." He said making Amara chuckle and shake her head.

"Well, that's in Tahitian. In Samoan, it means "open wound." I knew I wanted to get a tattoo when I turned eighteen. I always wanted one. I just decided to get it now, it make it kind of a reward." Scott explained making Derek raise his eyebrows slightly, "For what?" He asked.

"For surviving everything that's happened even though sometimes it seemed really hard too. After everything that happened it still kinda feels like a, uh..." Scott trailed off. "Like an open wound." Stiles said and Scott nodded, "Yeah."

Amara smiled softly before picking up an acetylene torch, handing it to Derek before looking at Scott. "Fair warning, the pain's gonna be worse than anything you've ever felt." She said and Derek nodded in agreement. Scott took a deep breath and nodded, "Do it." He said and with a spark lighter, Derek ignites the torch making Stiles eyes widen.

"Oh, wow. That's a-That's a lot for me. So, I'm gonna take that as my cue, I'm just gonna wait outside-" Stiles said and started to walk away but Amara grabbed his shoulder. "Nope. You gotta help me hold him down." She said as she pulled him over to Scott, "Oh, my God... You have super strength, why do you need my help." Stiles asked and Amara shrugged.

"I don't. But you need to be a big boy and see stuff like this."

Getting on Scott's other side, Stiles and Amara puts a hand on Scott's shoulders and arm, bracing to keep him seated. Derek slowly lowers the blue flame to Scott's shoulder. He flinches immediately, teeth clenched as Stiles tries to keep him still. But Scott's eyes glow yellow, surging in response to the pain.

Stiles tightens his grip. But it's too much for Scott. Fangs snapping out, he opens his mouth to scream. Amara and Stiles struggle to hold him down for a moment before Scott slow passed out.

⊚

Slipping his shirt on, Scott prepares to leave with Stiles while Derek returned to the still unconscious Isaac. "Well, it looks pretty damn permanent now." Stiles said and Scott nodded, "Yeah... I kind of needed something permanent. Everything that's happening to us... everything just changes so fast. Everything's so, uh... ephemeral." Scott said making Amara look at him shocked.

"Studying for the PSATs?"

"Yep."

"Nice."

Scott opens the front door to leave, but then pauses and looks at it confused making Amara's eyes widen slightly.."Why'd you paint the front door?" Scott called out making Derek walk over to them, "Go home guys." Derek said. "And why only one side?" Scott asked and Derek started walking toward them, but stops when he hears claws unsheathing.

They watch Scott raise his hand to the door, a clawed index finger pressed to the new paint. "Scott-" Amara said as Scott scratches at the paint to reveal a black mark beneath the muted red. Derek gives a last look, urging him to not go any further, but Scott slashes at the door then slashes again. First with one clawed hand, then both, red paint falling to the floor in thin ribbons until finally he stopped and gazes on the pattern revealed.

Scott looks over the Alpha Triskele as he pieces it together, "The birds at the school, and the deer last night... Just like the night I got trampled by the deer when I got bit by the Alpha. How many are there?" He asked and Amara sighed softly.

"A pack of them. An Alpha pack." Amara said making Scott and Stiles's eyes widen. "All of them? How does that even work?" Stiles asked, "I hear there's some kind of a leader... He's called Deucalion. We know they have Boyd and Erica. Amara, Makena, Peter, Isaac and I have been looking for them for the last four months." Derek said. "Let's say you find them- how do you deal with an Alpha Pack?" Scott asked and Derek sighed, "With all the help I can get." He said and Amara nodded in agreement.

"Where is she?" A voice spoke up behind them. All eyes turn to Isaac, wide awake and sitting up on the table, "Where's the girl?" He asked. The four of them glanced at each other confused before looking back at Isaac, "What girl?" Amara asked.
