Chapter One
ðº Wolf Moon ðº
Scott McCall sat on his bed in his room, wearing only a pair of gym shorts, as he re-threads the laces on his lacrosse stick. Once he determined that the net on his stick is secure and loose enough, he tossed the stick on his bed before walking toward the bathroom door, where he has a bar mounted on the lintel.
After doing a series of chin-ups, Scott goes into the bathroom, where he brushes his teeth and washes his face before bed. Suddenly a noise sounded outside making him pause to listen for danger. He quickly slipped on a shirt and a red hoodie before grabbing a baseball back and slowly walking out the house.
All of the sudden a figure falls off the roof, hanging by their feet making Scott scream and was about to hit the person until he noticed it was Stiles Stilinski, his best friend who was also screaming.
"Stiles, what the hell are you doing?!" Scott yelled and Stiles looked at his best friend in exasperation, "You weren't answering your phone! Why do you have a bat?" He asked and Scott rolled his eyes and lowered the bat. "I thought you were a predator!" He said making Stiles squint at him, "A pre... Wha?" He asked before scoffing lightly.
"Look, I know it's late, but you gotta hear this. I saw my dad leave twenty minutes ago. Dispatch called- they're bringing in every officer from the Beacon Department, and even state police." Stiles said and Scott furrowed his brows, "For what?" He asked and Stiles smiled.
"Two joggers found a body in the woods." He said before getting himself down, "What, a dead body?" Scott asked as Stiles stood up. "No, a body of water." He said sarcastically, "Yes, dumbass, a dead body!" He said before climbing over the railing onto the porch.
"You mean, like, murdered?" Scott asked and Stiles shrugged slightly, "Nobody knows yet. Just that it was a girl, probably in her twenties." He said and Scott frowned. "Hold on, if they found the body, then what are they looking for?" Scott asked and Stiles looked at him with excitement, "That's the best part- they only found half."
"We're going." Stiles said before walking over to his jeep making Scott sigh and follow him. "Shouldn't we get Amara then? This seems like something she'd want to do." Scott said and Stiles nodded. "Yeah, I called her, she was half asleep and said 'fuck you, goodnight' so I'm not gonna bother her. I'd like to not die at the hands of one of my best friends." Stiles said.
Minutes later the two pull into the preserve in Stiles' teal blue Jeep, illuminating the sign warning against entry after dark with the Jeep's headlights. "We're seriously doing this?" Scott asked as they climbed pit of the jeep, "You're the one always bitching that nothing ever happens in this town." Stiles said before patting Scott's shoulder and walking into the woods.
"I was trying to get a good night's sleep before practice tomorrow." Scott said while following behind Stiles, "Right, 'cause sitting on the bench is such a grueling effort." Stiles said sarcastically. "No, because I'm playing this year. In fact, I'm making first line." Scott said.
"Hey, that's the spirit! Everyone should have a dream, even a pathetically unrealistic one." Stiles said making Scott chuckle and shake his head. "Just out of curiosity, which half of the body are we looking for?" Scott asked and Stiles furrowed his brows slightly, "Huh! I didn't even think about that." He said and Scott nodded slowly.
"And, uh... what if whoever killed the body is still out here?" Scott asked and Stiles pursed his lips, "Also something I didn't think about." He said and Scott rolled his eyes in amusement as the two start to hike up a hill. "It's comforting to know you've planned this out with your usual attention to detail." Scott said and Stiles nodded, "I know."
Scott's breathing starts to become rapid, shallow, and wheezy as the two continue up the hill, with Scott struggling to keep up with Stiles' quick pace. "Maybe the severe asthmatic should be the one holding the flashlight, huh?" Scott asked as he leans his back against a nearby tree as he pulls his inhaler out of his pocket. However, when Stiles keeps pushing on, Scott continues to make his way up the hill after him.
When they see a handful of people ahead of them waving flashlights around as part of the search, Stiles and Scott dive behind a large fallen tree branch as they plan their next move, turning off the flashlight so they don't attract attention. Unfortunately for them both, Stiles' impatience eventually wins out, and he whispers back to Scott as he jumps up and runs toward the action.
"Come on!" Stiles said before running off while Scott, still wheezing, tries to stop Stiles, to no avail. "Stiles! Wait up!" Scott called out before he quickly takes a hit from his inhaler before scrambling to catch up with him. He tries his best to call after his best friend without also alerting anyone else that they are there, "Stiles! Stiles!"
Stiles finally hears the last attempt to call his name, but the split second of distraction caused the nearby K9 officer to start barking at him, scaring him so much he falls backwards onto the ground. The deputy with the search dog immediately points his flashlight at Stiles as he tries to recover from the shock.
"Hold it right there!"
Scott, several meters behind him, quickly hides behind a nearby tree, pressing his back to it and closing his eyes as though it will keep him from being seen. "Hang on, hang on..." A voice said as Stiles stands to his feet, shielding his eyes from the bright flashlight held toward him by the deputy.
"This little delinquent belongs to me." Sherriff Stilinski said and Stiles, trying to play it cool, nods at him, "Dad, how are you doing?" He asked and Stilinski raised his eyebrows. "So, do you, uh, listen in to all of my phone calls?" He asked and Stiles shook his head, "No. Heh... Not the boring ones." He said and Stilinski sighed and nodded slightly.
"Now, where's your usual partners in crime?" He asked as he glanced around, "Who, Scott and Amara? Scott's home. He said he wanted to get a good night's sleep for first day back at school tomorrow. So is Amara. It's just me... In the woods... Alone..." Stiles said awkwardly.
It is obvious that Stilinski doesn't buy what Stiles is saying, and he lifts his flashlight and tries to get a look around to find Scott, who is still hiding behind the tree. "Scott, you out there? Scott?" Stilinski called out and waiting for a moment before sighing and grabbing Stiles roughly by the back of the neck and steering him toward the entrance to the preserve.
"Well, young man, I'm gonna walk you back to your car... And then you and I are gonna have a conversation about something called 'invasion of privacy'."
As Stiles and the Stilinski leave, Scott closes his eyes and hits the back of his head on the tree, mouthing "Damn!" under his breath when he realizes that by hiding himself, he lost his way home. Scott waits until the coast is clear before heading in the opposite direction through the woods, following the same path he and Stiles took to get there.
Thunder and lightning flickers overhead as Scott carefully makes his way back, pulling up the hood to his sweatshirt to try to keep his head dry from the steady rain. It's evident that he's unnerved by the sounds of the forest animals around him, but when he makes it to a foggy clearing, he becomes unnerved by the fact that it falls totally silent.
He pulls his inhaler out of his hoodie once again and shakes it, intending to take another hit when suddenly, a herd of deer begin frantically stampeding toward him, trampling him over and causing his inhaler to fly several meters away.
Once the deer have cleared out, Scott, still in shock, gets to his feet and starts looking for his inhaler using his cell phone as a light source. He's about to search through a pile of dead leaves when he's startled when he instead uncovers the top half of the body that Stiles had told him about- young, with dark hair and very clearly bisected at the waist.
The shock of this sight stuns him so badly that he loses his balance and tumbles down the hill behind him and into a ravine. Scott, shaken, stands to his feet with a groan, using a fallen tree trunk to help himself up due to the aches and pains caused by his fall.
He makes his way quickly through the woods, wanting nothing more than to get out of there as soon as possible, when all of the sudden, a growl heard behind him causes him to freeze in fear. He slowly turns around, only to find a large, bestial wolf with glowing red eyes standing before him.
Scott barely has time to gasp before the beast leaped toward him, causing him to fall backward onto the ground. Though Scott attempts to crawl away, the wolf grabs him by the ankles and pulls him backwards before viciously biting him on his side, causing Scott to roar in pain.
Panicked, Scott scrambles through the woods, tripping and tumbling all the way as he desperately tries to evade whatever bit him. When Scott finally makes it to the nearest road, he stops just before being hit by someone driving a burgundy SUV, who manages to swerve away from him just in the nick of time. Finally more or less safe, Scott takes a moment to lift the hem of his hoodie up, examining the large bite wound on his hip with horror as the rain continues to pour down around him.
Suddenly, a loud wolf howl is heard from in the woods making Scott glance back at the woods as he breathed heavily.

"Morning!" Amara Hale said as she walked into the kitchen where we mother, Makena Adisa, stood. "Good morning." Makena said before looking up to see Amara pull out a slice of leftover pizza making her sigh. "You know we have food for breakfast right? Like the five boxes of cereal on top of the fridge." Makena said and Amara playfully squinted at her, "Cereal is full of sugar." She said and her mother raised her eyebrows.
"And pizza is full of carbs." Makena said and Amara smiled at her before there was a honking outside. "And there's Stiles." Amara said before grabbing her backpack, "I still dont see why you wont just ride with me." Makena said. "Because going to school in a cop car is so uncool." Amara said and Makena chuckled and raised her eyebrows, "Since when did you start wanting to be cool?" Makena asked and Amara shrugged.
"I don't. Bye, love you!" She yelled while walking to the door, "Love you too!" Makena called back before Amara shut the door. Amara jogged over to the jeep and quickly climbed into the passenger seat, "So why did you call me last night?" Amara asked as she looked at Stiles. "Scott and I were going to look for a dead body in the woods." Stiles said making Amara's eyes widen, "What?! Why didn't you tell me?" She asked and he gave her a dramatic look.
"You said 'fuck you' and hung up." He said and she flicked the side of his head, "Start with that next time not 'guess what'. No one wants to guess something when their half asleep." She said.
ðº
Scott rode his bike through the school parking lot, where he jumps off just as he makes it to the bike rack in front of the school. He takes off his helmet and hangs it on the handlebars, adjusting his backpack with his lacrosse stick strapped to the back just as Jackson Whittemore, driving a silver Porsche, pulls into the parking spot next to him.
Jackson gets out of the car, hitting Scott in the back with the door before shooting him a nasty look. "Dude! Watch the paint job." He said and Scott looks at him with an offended expression, but before they can interact further, someone called out. "Yo, Jackson! Let's go, bro." Jackson walks away without another word, though he does turn his head back to shoot Scott a glare before he leaves.
"Okay, let's see this thing." Stiles said as Scott walked up to him and Amara. Scott lifts up his shirt to show them his bite wound, which is covered with gauze and tape that has a small amount of blood leaking through. "Ooh!" Stiles said as he poked the bandage making Scott to flinch, "Whoa!"
Scott pulls his shirt back down as the two resume their walk into the school. "It was too dark to see much, but I'm pretty sure it was a wolf." Scott said and Amara looked at Scott with raised eyebrows, "A wolf bit you?" She asked and Scott nodded making Stiles shake his head.
"No, not a chance." He said and Scott raised his eyebrows, "I heard a wolf howling." Scott said and Stiles scoffed and continues to shake his head. "No, you didn't." He said and Scott rolled his eyes, "What do you mean, "No, I didn't?" How do you know what I heard?" He asked
"Because California doesn't have wolves, okay? Not in, like, sixty years." Amara said and Scott looked surprised by this news as the two stop on the staircase. "Really?" Scott asked as Stiles turned to face him, "Yes, really. There are no wolves in California." He said and Scott nodded slightly.
"All right. Well, if you don't believe me about the wolf, then you're definitely not gonna believe me about when I tell you I found the body." Scott said making Stiles' eyes widened in excitement, "You- are you kidding me?" He asked and Scott shocked his head. "No, man, I wish. I'm gonna have nightmares for a month." Scott said and Stiles laughed.
"Oh, god, that is freakin' awesome. I mean, this is seriously gonna be the best thing that's happened to this town since-" Stiles said but cut himself off when he noticed Amara wasn't paying attention, she wasn't even looking at them. Stiles followed her line of sight to see the popular girl, Lydia Martin walking up to the school with her friend.
"Amara!" Stiles said while snapping his fingers in front of Amara's face making her flinch slightly and look at them. "What?" She asked and Stiles gave her an annoyed look while Scott gave her an amused smug look. "Can you pay attention to your best friends and not your gay thoughts?" Stiles asked making her scoff slightly, "How do you know what I was thinking?" She asked.
"You were staring at Lydia." Scott said and Amara looked at him slightly offended, "I was not staring at Lydia." Amara said and Stiles raised his eyebrows. "Scott hearing a wolf howl is more believable than that." Stiles said and Amara scoffed, "Shut up." She said as she playfully shoved him before walking away.
Scott, Stiles and Amara enter their first period English class and take their seats as Mr. Curtis spoke up. "As you all know, there indeed was a body found in the woods last night." Mr. Curtis said and Scott looked over at Stiles, who is in the desk one row and one column behind him and who winks at him knowingly while Amara chuckled and shook her head.
"And I am sure your eager little minds are coming up with various macabre scenarios as to what happened. But I am here to tell you that the police have a suspect in custody." He said making Scott and Amara glance back at Stiles who shrugged. Which means your undivided attention can be given to the syllabus outlining the semester on your desks." Mr. Curtis said making most of the students groan.
Amara pulled out the sheet of paper before a phone started ringing making her glance out the window to see some girl sitting on a bench out side. Amara went to look back down at the paper but stopped for a moment when she saw Scott glancing around the class as if he had also heard the ringing.
When he looks around the room, he sees no one else reacting to the noise, causing him to frown in confusion. Eventually, the sound of a female voice draws his attention to the row of windows to his left, through which he sees the girl sitting on a bench at the bottom of the stairs to the front entrance to the school.
She had just answered the phone, which she has braced between her ear and her shoulder so she can dig through her gray canvas bag. The fact that he can hear her speaking like she's sitting right in front of him only makes him more confused. Amara squinted at her friend for a moment before humming quietly and looking back down at her paper.
"Mom, three calls on my first day is a little overdoing it." She said and her mom said something while she digs around her bag, "Everything except a pen. Oh, my God, I didn't actually forget a pen. Okay, okay. I gotta go. Love ya."
The girl hung up and puts her phone away. Scott continues to eavesdrop as the vice principal of the school comes out to greet her. "Sorry to keep you waiting, I was checking over he paper work." The principal said before they started walking.
"So you were saying San Francisco isn't where you grew up?" The vice principal asked and she shook her head, "No, but we lived there for more than a year, which is unusual in my family." She said and the vice principal nodded, "Well, hopefully Beacon Hills will be your last stop for a while." He said.
The vice principal walked into Scott's classroom with the girl following behind. "Class, this is our new student, Allison Argent." The principal said making Amara's head shoot up slightly to look at Allison with wide eyes. "Please do your best to make her feel welcome." The principal said before walking out. Allison, who looks nervous, smiles weakly before finding the only open seat in the class, which just happens to be the seat behind Scott, next to Amara.
Scott, having heard Allison's conversation with her mother earlier, knows that she forgot a pen and offers her one of his own. Allison looks surprised by the gesture, but smiles at him gratefully. "Thanks." She said as she grabbed it. Scott smiles before turning back around in his seat so she can't see him blush. Mr. Curtis picks up where he left off as Allison looks confused by this interaction.
ðº
After class ends, the students file out and go to their lockers. Scott's locker is across the hallway and several meters down from Allison. Allison closed her locked and hers around before Scott catches her eye and she smiles at him before Lydia Martin walked up to her..
Scott continued to watch them from afar and eavesdrop on them with his newly-enhanced hearing as Stiles, Amara and a girl named Harley join him by his own locker.
"That jacket is absolutely killer. Where'd you get it?" Lydia asked and Allison awkwardly glanced down at her jacket, "My mom was a buyer for a boutique back in San Francisco." She said and Lydia hummed before smiling. "And you, are my new best friend." Lydia said before Jackson runs up and puts his arm around Lydia's waist, "Hey, Jackson." Lydia said before kissing him..
Harley, who is also watching the scene go down in front of them, looks at Scott, Amara and Stiles incredulously, though Scott is too busy listening to Allison, Lydia, and Jackson's conversation to hear her. "Can someone tell me how New Girl is here all of five minutes, and she's already hanging out with Lydia's clique?" She asked and Amara shrugged slightly.
"Because she hot." Amara said making Harley give her a look, and Stiles nodded in agreement. "Beautiful people herd together." He said and Scott is so distracted by listening to Allison, Lydia and Jackson talk that he doesn't even react to his friends' argument.
"So, this weekend, there's a party." Lydia said and Allison raised her eyebrows, "A party?" She asked and Jackson nodded. "Yeah, Friday night. You should come." Jackson said and Allison awkwardly shook her head, "Uh, I can't. It's family night this Friday. Thanks for asking." She said and Jackson raised his eyebrows.
"You sure? Everyone's going after the scrimmage." He said and Allison raised her eyebrows, "You mean like football." She said and Jackson laughs as though she was kidding. "Football's a joke in Beacon. The sport here is lacrosse. We've won the state championship for the past three years." He said and Lydia ruffles his hair, "Because of a certain team captain." She said and Jackson smiled at her before looking at Allison.
"Well, we have practice in a few minutes. That is, if you don't have anywhere else-" He said and Allison cuts him off in an attempt to talk her way out of it, "Well, I was going to-" She said but got cut off by Lydia. "Perfect! You're coming." She said as she grabbed Allison hand and pulling her down the hallway.
ðº
"But if you play, I'll have no one to talk to on the bench. Are you really gonna do that to your best friend?" Stiles asked as he chanced after Scott, "I can't sit out again. My whole life is sitting on the sidelines." He said as he sets his bag down. "This season, I make first line." He said and Amara raised her eyebrows at him.
"Didn't Stiles say that you couldn't walk through the woods would using your inhaler like three times? How do you expect to make first line?" Amara asked but Scott was distracted by Lydia and Allison climbing the bleachers to sit down.
Allison caught his eye and smiled at him, but before he can smile back, Coach Finstock appears in front of him. "McCall!" He yelled making Scott turn to him, "Yeah?" He asked. Coach roughly tosses a lacrosse stick with a much bigger net and a bigger helmet to Scott, who catches them after they smack him on the chest.
"You're on goal." Coach said making Scott down slightly, "I've never played..." He said and Coach nodded. "I know- scoring some shots will give the boys a confidence boost. It's a first-day-back thing." Coach said before roughly patting Scott's shoulder, "Get 'em energized! Fired up!" He said.
"What about me?" Scott asked and Coach nodded slightly, "Try not to take any in the face." He said and he smacks Scott lightly on the cheek before turning toward the field to start the try-outs. "Let's go! Come on!"
Amara sat down next to Stiles on the bench, she wasn't afraid of Coach telling her to leave. He loved her too much. She watched as Scott looked in the direction of Allison and Lydia before a whistle blew making him cringe and puy his hands on his helmet making Amara sit up slightly.
One of the bigger players charges forward as the Assistant Coach passes the ball to him. Catching it, he whips his stick forward, hurdling the ball toward the goal. Still affected by the whistle, Scott looks up too late to see the ball soaring toward him. And instead of him catching it, the ball goes straight to his helmet making Amara and Stiles both cringe as everyone else laugh.
"Hey, way to catch with your face, McCall!" Jackson yelled and Amara looked at him, "Hey Whittewhore!" Amara called out making Jackson roll his eyes before looking over at her. "How about you shut the fuck up and suck a dick!" She yelled before smiling at holding up her middle finger. Jackson just rolled his eyes making, Stiles and her both laugh as Amara glanced back slightly. She caught Allison's eyes making Amara clear her throat awkwardly before looking out at the field.
The next player steps up but this time Scott caught it making Amara and Stiles gasp, hitting each other in the arm. Soon enough Scott was catching every ball thrown at him making his friends cheer but that soon died down as Jackson walked up. Everyone watched tensed as Jackson took the shoot and the ball lands right in the pocket of the goalie stick. Amara and Stiles shot up cheering for their friend, even Lydia stood up and cheered.
Jackson is appalled by the fact that Scott got one over on him, and Lydia gives Jackson a very pointed look. This does nothing but make Jackson more furious with Scott for taking his glory as the best player on the team. Allison watches Scott with interest as he throws a back-shot at the assistant coach, who just barely catches it with his own stick.
ðº
"I don't know what it was. I mean I felt like I had all the time in the world to catch the ball. And that's not the only weird thing. I mean I can hear stuff I shouldn't be able to hear. And I can smell things." Scott said as Stiles and Amara followed behind him. The three were in the woods the boys were the previous night, looking for the inhaler Scott dropped.
"Smell things? Like what?" Stiles asked, "Like the mint mojito gum in your pocket." Scott asked making Stiles look at him confused, digging into his pocket, "I don't have any-" Stiles started to say before cutting himself off as he pulled out a pice of gum.
"So all this started with the bite?" Amara asked, neither of them noticing the lack of shock or wonder in her voice. "What if it's an infection? What if my body is flooding with adrenaline before I fall into shock? I knew I should have gone to the ER." Scott said panickly.
"I've actually heard of this. It's a specific kind of infection." Stiles said making Amara look at him with a cocked eyebrow while Scott looked at him with panic, "Are you serious?" Scott asked. "I think it's called... Lycanthropy." Stiles asked making Amara nervously chuckle while Scott's eyes widen.
"What's that? Is it bad? It sounds bad." Scott said nervously and Amara decided to play along, "Oh yeah, It is. But only once a month." She said making Scott look at her. "Once a month?" Scott said sounding both nervous and confused, "On the night of a full moon." Stiles said and then both him and Amara howled making Scott catch on and push Stiles. "You're an ass." Scott said making Stiles and Amara laugh.
"Hey, you're the one who heard a
wolf howling." Stiles said raising his hands im surrender, "There could be something seriously wrong with me." Scott said. "I know! You're a werewolf! Okay, obviously, I'm kidding. But if you see me in shop class melting down all the silver I can find it's because Friday's a full moon." Stiles said, not seeing the nervous look Amara had as Scott crouched down and started digging through the leaves.
"I swear this was it. The body was here. The deer came running, I dropped my inhaler." Scott said and Amara bent down next to him to help him look. "Maybe the killer moved the body." Stiles suggested. "If he did, I hope he left my inhaler. Those things are like eighty bucks." Scott said.
All of the sudden Stiles tapped them both on the shoulders making them look at him and at where he was looking. Amara's eyes widened slightly when she saw the man that was walking over to them.
"What are you doing here?" He asked but they were too stunned to speak at first, "This is private property." He said. "Sorry, we didn't know." Stiles said but the man barely noticed him as he looked at Scott, "We were just looking for something. Forget it. Sorry to bother you." Scott said slowly but then the man dug in his pocket then tossed something at Scott. Scott looked down at his hand to see his inhaler.
They all looked back at the man, who glanced at Amara and she nodded at him before he turned around and walked away. "Come on. I have to get to work." Scott said watching as the man walked away. "Dude, that was Derek Hale. You remember, right? He's only a few years older than us. He's Amara's cousin." Stiles said and Scott furrowed his brows, "Remember what?" Scott asked.
"Their family. They all burned to death in a fire like ten years ago." Stiles said making Amara furrow her brows, "It's been six years and way to pour salt in a still open wound." She said making Stiles look at her. "Sorry." He said as Scott glanced back in the direction that Scott went, "I wonder what he's doing back." Scott said.
"I need to get to work." Scott said and Stiles nodded before they started to walk away, "Hey, you guys go on without me. I wanna go talk to my cousin." Amara said and they guys looked at her before nodding and walking away. Amara quickly went off in the direction Derek went, knowing exactly where to go.
A few minutes later she slowly walked up to the burnt remains of the Hale House glanced around slightly. She took a deep breath, trying to ignore the flashback of the night the fire happened. "Amara." A familiar voice said from behind her making her turn around to see Derek standing behind her and she squinted at him.
"I have no idea how long you've been here but I am deeply offended that you haven't visited your favorite cousin yet." Amara said and Derek raised his eyebrows, "You're my only cousin." He said and she shrugged slightly. "Irrelevant." She said and he smiled at her, "It's good to see you again." He said before pulling her into a hug making her hug him back.
"Where's Laura?" Amara asked as they pulled away and Derek furrowed his brows slightly, "You don't know?" He asked making her look at him confused. "Know what? All I know is that Laura visited my mom and I the other say and now she hasn't been answering any call-" Amara said but cut herself off for a moment.
"Please don't tell me that the body my friends were looking for last night was the body of my cousin..." Amara said slowly and Derek just sighed softly before pulling her back into a hug.
ðº
The next day, on the high school lacrosse field, Amara boredly stood next to Scott while he was preparing to go on the field for try-outs when Stiles frantically runs up to them. "Scott! Scott, wait up." Stiles called out and Scott glanced back at him, "Stiles, I'm playing the first elimination, man. Can it wait?" He asked and tried to walk away, but Stiles grabbed him by the shoulders.
"Just hold on, okay? I overheard my dad on the phone. The fiber analysis came back from the lab in L.A. They found animal hairs on the body from the woods!" Stiles said and Scott sighed and shook his head, "Stiles, I gotta go." He said, distracted by the prospect of making first line, picks up his lacrosse stick and helmet before jogging onto the field.
"Wait, no! Scott! You're not gonna believe what the animal was!" Stiles called out, "It was a wolf..." He said in a slight whisper making Amara look at him shocked before sighing and looking back out at Scott.
Coach Finstock has just moved to the center of the field, where he calls all of the players to circle around him. "Let's go! Gather round! Bring it in, come on! Come on!" He called out. Allison walked on the sidelines, getting ready to settle down in the bleachers to watch the practice for the second day in a row. She waves at Scott, who waves back to her, though it doesn't escape Coach's notice.
"Got a question, McCall?" Coach asked making Scott look at him slightly alarmed, "What?" He asked. "You raised your hand. You have a question?" Coach asked ans Scott awkwardly shook his head, "Oh. No. I was just, uh... Nothing. Sorry." He said and Coach turned back to the test of the team.
"Okay. You know how this goes. If you don't make the cut, you're most likely sitting on the bench for the rest of the season. You make the cut? You play. Your parents are proud. Your girlfriend loves ya! Huh? Everything else is, uh... cream cheese. Now, get out there and show me whatcha got! Come on!" At Coach's order, the players scatter on the field, cheering and whooping to get each other focused on practice.
Practice begins with the players doing a drill in which they pass the ball back and forth between each other. Scott bounces on the balls of his feet while he waits for the ball to be thrown his way. Once again, when the ball heads his way, he's shocked when he actually catches it with minimal effort.
He starts running down the field, but when he spins around to avoid getting the ball stolen by another player, Jackson appears out of nowhere and tackles him hard. Jackson lifts up his helmet so he can smirk smugly at Scott before jogging away, which making Scott's face scrunched up in motivational anger.
Scott and Jackson are up against each other for the lacrosse equivalent of a kickoff, and the two stare at each other for a long moment until Coach blows the whistle. Much to Jackson's dismay, Scott easily snatches the ball before he can even react, forcing him to chase after him as fast as he can.
Just like the previous day's practice, everything seems to slow down around Scott, allowing him to spin out of the way when the other players try to tackle him, jumping over another player's ankle when they try to trip him, and finally, doing a hands-free round-off flip over three players who attempted to knock him down together, and shooting the goal by throwing the ball between the goalie's legs.
Scott gasps, clearly having difficulty believing what had just happened, and Jackson looks both furious and desperate to know what Scott's secret is. When Scott pumps his fists into the air, the other players run up to him and smack him affectionately on the shoulders, and Allison stands up in the stands to clap and cheer for him.
"McCall! Get over here!" Coach yelled making Scott's eyes widen slightly before he jogged over to where Coach is standing while taking off his helmet. "What in God's name was that? This is a lacrosse field. What, are you trying out for the gymnastics team?" Coach asked and Scott shook his head, "No, Coach."
"What the hell was that?" Coach asked and Scott shrugged slightly, "I don't know. I-I was just trying to make the shot." He said and Coach nodded. "Yeah, well, you made the shot. And guess what?" He asked as he slaps Scott playfully on the arm. "You're startin', buddy. You made first line. Come on!"
Scott is so excited that he bounces happily, and all the players on the field and bench clap for him except for Stiles and Amara. Stiles seems concerned by the uncharacteristically athletic prowess Scott showed on the field. And Amara just sighed to herself as she pulled her phone out to text someone.
ðº
Amara and Stiles sat in his room in front of his computer, eyes locked onto his computer screen, Stiles bounces from one web page to the next, not even noticing how Amara kept directing him in the right places to look.
Words and images pop up on the screen, flashing across his face- Wolfsbane, Silver Bullets, Lycaon, Aconite, drawings of werewolves in different forms, one mostly human, another a massive fur-covered creature and yet another appearing as a normal wolf.
Suddenly a knock sounded at the door and Stiles practically leaps out of his chair. He rushes to the door, unlocking it to find Scott standing out in the hall. "Get in. You have to see this. I've been reading. Websites, books, all this information." Stiles said in a rush making Scott smile and look at Amara.
"How much Adderall did he have today?" He ask and before she could answer Stiles did, "A lot. Doesn't matter just listen." Stiles said and went to talk but Scott did first. "Is this about the body? Did they find who did it?"
"No, they're still questioning people. Even Derek Hale" Stiles said making Amara look at him shocked, "Why Derek?" She asked and he shrugged. "I don't know. Anyways, Remember the joke the other day? Not a joke anymore. The wolf. The bite in the woods. I started doing all this reading- Do you even know why a wolf howls?" Stiles asked.
"Should I?" Scott asked confused and Amara sighed softly, "It's a signal. When a wolf is alone it howls to signal its location to the rest of the pack." She said and Stiles nodded. "So if you heard it howling that mean there's others. Maybe a whole pack of them." Stiles said and Scott cocked his eyebrows at his spastic friend, "A pack of wolves?"
"No, werewolves."
"You're seriously wasting my time with this? You know, I'm picking Allison up in an hour." Scott said getting frustrated making Stiles sigh while Amara kept a wary eye on Scott, "I saw you on the field, Scott. What you did wasn't just amazing. It was impossible." Stiles said.
"So, I made a good shot." Scott said shrugging. "No, you made an incredible shot. The way you moved-the speed, your reflexes-people can't suddenly do that overnight. And then there's the hearing, the senses, and don't think I haven't noticed you don't need your inhaler anymore. You haven't used it since that night." Stiles stressed but Scott was barely listening and was just getting more and more annoyed.
"I can't think about this now. We'll talk tomorrow, okay?" Scott said and went to turn but Stiles stopped him, "Tomorrow? Scott, the full moon is tonight." Stiles said. "What are you trying to do? I just made starting lineup. I have a date with a girl I can't believe actually wants to go out with me. Everything in my life is somehow perfect. Why are you guys trying to ruin it?" Scott said frustrated making Amara step forward slightly.
"We're trying to help. With the full moon it's going to be too hard to resist and there's no going back. You're cursed, Scott. And it's not only that the moon causes you to change, it's also when your bloodlust will be at its peak."
"Bloodlust?" Scott asked, "Your urge to kill." Stiles said and Scott looked at him annoyed. "I'm already starting to have an urge to kill, Stiles." Scott said, "You need to hear this. The change can be caused by anger or anything that raises your pulse. And I've never seen anyone raise your pulse like Allison does. You have to cancel your date. You have to call her." Stiles said and then moved to Scott's back pack.
"What are you doing? Give me that."
"I'm just finding her number-"
"Give it to me!" Scott yelled, his voice low and guttural, he yanks the phone out of Stiles's hand and shoves him against the wall. "Scott!" Amara yelled making Scott pull back and instead of hitting Stiles, hit the desk chair sending it flying across the room, like it weighed nothing. Then, shaking with anger, he gazes up, realizing what just happened.
"I didn't mean to do that." Scott said and went to step closer to Stiles but stopped when Stiles flinched. "I'm sorry. Really, I didn't mean it. I have to go. I have to get ready for the party. I'm sorry." Scott said, grabbing his jacket, sparing a glance to Amara before leaving.
"Are you okay?" Amara asked rushing over to Stiles. Still shaken, Stiles nods gradually stands with the help of Amara. He slowly picks up the desk chair, putting it back. But then he pauses. With a shaky hand, he turns the chair around to reveal claw marks. "Amara." He whispered making her look at the chair and sigh.
"What would you do if I tell you that all if this real and I'm a Werewolf?" Amara asked making Stiles' eyes widen as he whipped around to look at her, "What?!?" He asked and she nodded. "I'm also a Pyro Witch and my mom is a Protector Witch." She said and his eyes widened more, "What the hell is that?!?" He asked.
"So your telling me that your not only a Werewolf but you also have fire magic?! Not even that, but your mom is also a witch." Stiles asked as he drove to the party and Amara nodded slightly, "Basically." She said and he glanced at her. "For how long?" He asked and she squinted slightly, "Me? Since I was eleven. My mom? Since she was fifteen." Amara said and he looked at her dramatically.
"We've been friends since we were nine!" He said and she nodded, "Yes, we have. You have wonderful memory, Stiles." She said and he rolled his eyes. "Why didn't you tell us?" He asked and she shrugged slightly, "Wasn't allowed you and didn't want you guys to get involved with the supernatural world." She said as he pulled up to the house.
"We are so not done with this conversation." Stiles said, pointing at his friend before they got out.
A little while later Amara and Stiles where talking to some guys when all of the sudden Scott who looked like he was in pain, started to walk past making Stiles and Amara look at him worriedly. "Yo, Scott. You good?" Stiles asked and Scott just ignored them as he walked past them.
Amara and Stiles glanced at each other before quickly running after Scott. When they ran outside, someone grabbed Amara's arm while Stiles, not even noticing Amara wasnt following, got into the jeep and started driving off. Amara sighed in annoyance before turning to look at her cousin, "You're too old to be at a highschool party. It's creepy." She said making him roll his eyes.
"I need you to ask her if she wants a ride." He said, nodding at someone making her look over to see Allison. "Why?" She asked and he sighed, "Just do it, I'll explain after we drop her off." He said and she sighed. "You so owe for this." She mumbled before walking over to Allison, "Allison?" Amara asked making Allison turn to look at her and Amara smiled awkwardly.
"Hi, I'm Amara. I'm Scott's friend." Amara said and Allison smiled at her and Amara awkwardly cleared her throat. "My cousin's here to pick me up and we Scott run off so I was wondering if you need a ride." Amara said and Allison glanced back to look at Derek warily and Amara smiled at her. "Don't worry. He probably won't even talk to you." Amara said and Allison smiled at her and nodded, "Yeah, thanks." She said and Amara nodded.

In the Beacon Hills Preserve, Scott, fully transformed, jumps on top of Derek's car, which is parked just out front of the entrance sign. He looks inside to see that neither Allison nor Derek are there before he heads into the woods.
Scott, using his new superhuman sense of smell to track Allison's scent in order to locate her and Derek. He continues to run though the woods, following her scent until he reaches a clearing, where he finds Allison's jacket hanging on a branch and realizes that it was the scent he was following, and not the scent of Allison herself.
The sound of footsteps made Scott glance around, "Where is she?" He asked in a slight growl. "She's safe... from you." Derek said and Scott turned around right before Derek tackles Scott, leading to the two of them to continue to roll down a slight hill. Once they reach the bottom, Derek pulls Scott to his feet and pins him against a tree
"What did you do with her?" Scott asked and Derek glanced around, "Shh, quiet. Too late. They're already here. Run." Derek said before running away, but Scott, not understanding what is going on, takes a beat to catch on. This distraction ends up working against him when a flash-bang arrow flies past him, blinding him momentarily.
As he recovers, another arrow is shot at him, which goes through his left forearm and pins him to the tree. Suddenly, a group of three middle-aged male Hunters step out of the shadows, with the leader, holding a crossbow aimed right at Scott
"Take him." He said but before the Hunters can move, the two closet to him suddenly got knocked to the ground, leaving the leader outnumbered. Taking advantage of the distraction, Amara suddenly ran out, her irises glowing a mix of golden yellow and an fiery-red making Scott look at her in shock.
She quickly pulls the arrow out of Scott's arm, causing him to roar in pain. "Go." She said as she grabbed Scott arm and the two quickly run away, and by the time the leader finishes checking on his men, he looks back at the tree to find that Scott is gone.
Once Amara and Scott have run far enough away from the Hunters to feel that the coast is clear, Scott, now in his human form, falls to his knees as he recovers from the overwhelming combination of transforming into a Werewolf and being shot by Hunters. He looks up at Amara as Derek walked up behind her.
"Who were they?" He asked and Amara shrugged slightly as she glanced around, "Hunters." She said. "The kind that have been hunting people like us for centuries." Derek said and Scott glared at him, "Us? You mean you! You did this to me!" He yelled and Amara furrowed her brows while Derek rolled his eyes.
"Is it really so bad, Scott? That you can see better, hear more clearly, move faster than any human could ever hope? You've been given something that most people would kill for. The Bite is a gift." Derek said and Scott's glare deepened.
"I don't want it." He said and Amara sighed, "Sadly, you don't have a choice anymore. But you're gonna need us if you want to learn how to control it." She said and Derek places his hand on Scott's shoulder. "So you and me, Scott? We're brothers now." Derek said making Amara look at him weird.
Derek walks away while Amara looked at Scott, "Go home, Scott. I'll explain everything tomorrow." She said before turning to follow Derek.
