Chapter Thirteen
ð¦ Omega ð¦
Beyond a wrought iron gate in the small Beacon Hills cemetery, a newly made headstone reads: Katherine Argent. A backhoe loader eases past before dropping a pile of dirt next to the grave.
Operating the loader from the center of the glass-encased cab was Isaac Lahey, the oy Amara talked to at the formal. Headphones jammed in his ears, hard crunching guitars pound through his head while he works. With the grave digging nearly complete, he reaches for the gear shift and glances in the rear view mirror to back up.
He paused for a second, bringing his hand up to a dark bruise around his eye for a moment. He was about to get back go work as he looked through the glass before pausing again when he thought he saw something.
The sound of footsteps made Isaac turn the loader around a few times while he tried it see whatever was going it there. He turned the loader again, the lights illuminated one of the headstones and he could see a clawed hand wrapped around the side of it. "What the hell..." He mumbled as the clawed hand moved away and he turned the loader off as he glanced around.
All of the sudden something came running forward and Isaac was bearly able to get a good look at it before it pushed the side of the load. Isaac fell into the grave he was previously digging while the load fell on top of it. He glanced around, breathing heavily until something suddenly leaps onto the loader, rattling the machine.
It bounds off just as quickly and Isaac tries to hold his breath, tries to halt his frightened gasps. Pulling himself back against the dirt wall of the grave, he listens. Strange, animal-like sounds come from nearby, a stream of feral growls becoming more and more urgent.
Gathering his courage, Isaac rises up, looking past the top of the grave at a nearby grave. A hunched over figure quickly digs and tears at the earth, pulling up a just buried casket. Isaac flinches at the thing's urgent shrieks coming from the creature.
Pulling back into the darkness, he hears the cracking and smashing of woods, sounds of rending and tearing until the
sounds abruptly. Holding still, Isaac hears low whimper before the sound of quick movement. The creature running away in terrified retreat, its breathless whimpers giving way to silence again.
"Issac?" A familiar voice called out making Isaac furrow his brows, "Amara?" He asked. Just then backhoe loader begins to raise, the entire machine lifts up off the grave and tips back down onto its tires, right side up. The sound of multiple sets of footsteps got closer before both Amara and Derek appeared at the edge of the grave. Isaac's eyes widened slightly while Amara smiled at him, "Need a hand?" She asked.
A little while later Amara walked into Lydia's hospital room as Lydia was starting to get up. Lydia's dad, who stood in the room moved to help her but Amara walked past him to help Lydia herself. "You want help getting in the shower?" Mr. Martin asked and Lydia just gave him a look while grabbing Amara's arm, "Maybe if I was four, and still taking bubble baths. Amara can help me." Lydia said and Amara helped her to the bathroom.
"Right. I'll just wait outside, then... Where it's slightly less sarcastic." Mr. Martin said then walked out if the room. Closing Lydia's door behind him, Mr. Martin notices Stiles, with a "get well soon" balloon tied to his wrist, sleeping across across a couple stairs in the waiting room and turns to Melissa. "Has he been here all night?" He asked making her glance at Stiles.
"He's been here all weekend with Amara." She said as Amara walked out of the room making her look at Stiles and sigh making Mr. Martin look at, "You know him?" He asked. "Yeah, he's my emotional support human." She said and they looked back at Stiles as a cleaning lady started changing the trash bag in the bin next to him.
"You... you're dirty." Stiles mumbled in his sleep making the the cleaning lady look at him with a bewildered look. Amara laughed herself before walking over to her best friend. "Stiles." Amara said poking his forehead making him jump up and slightly look around before noticing her. "Who were you having a sex dream about?" She asked making his eyes widen, "I wasn't- That wasnt- I didn't have a sex dream." He said quickly making her raise her eyebrows in amusement.
"Sure you didn't. Wanna come with me to get something from the vending machine?" She asked and he nodded while clearing his throat slightly, still embarrassed. "Let's just pretend that you didn't hear anything while I was asleep." Stiles said as they walked making her laugh, "Have you ever known me as someone who would let you forget something?" She asked making him groan as they walked up to a vending machine.
Stiles puts some change into the vending machine and picks a reeses, but, of course, it gets stuck making him groan, "Seriously?" He taps on the plexiglass window of the machine. The candy bar doesn't budge so he gives the glass a smack, nothing. He pounds on it with a fist, still nothing.
"Don't break it." Amara said, chucking as she watch him, "I'm not gonna break it." Stiles said making her raise her eyebrows and nodded slightly. "One thing I've learned from being friends with you for years is that everytime Stiles Stilinski says 'I'm not gonna break it' he breaks it." She said and he rolled his eyes.
Stiles spreads his legs for maximum leverage and awkwardly grips the sides of the vending machine to shake the candy bar loose. "What the hell are you doing?" Amara asked looking at him weird, "I'm trying to get it out." He said.
He rocks the machine back and forth and just as the candy bar is almost slipping free the entire vending machine lurches forward and slams down onto the floor with a loud crash. They both freeze as they stare down at the very heavy machine now laying on its face before Amara laughs across from him. "You were saying?" She asked making him shoot her a look.
He went to say something but all of the sudden a loud scream rips through the hospital making Amara cover her ears. "Lydia." Am,ara whispered before she immediately took off towards Lydia's room, Stiles following. She threw the door open right as Melissa and Mr. Martin ran over. She ran over to the bathroom, opening the door to see the shower still running and Lydia nowhere to be seen.
Amara looked around confused until she noticed the open window near the shower.
ð¦
"All right, let's get an A-P-B out for a sixteen year-old red-head. Any other descriptors?" Stilinski asked Melissa and Amara popped up in between them, Stiles behind her. "She's five-three, green eyes, fair-skinned, and her hair is actually strawberry blonde, not red. Never red. I made the mistake of calling her a red head, never again." Amara said making Stilinski and Makena raise their eyebrows at her.
"Is that right?" Stilinski said and she nodded, "Why are the two of you here?" Makena asked. "Providing moral support." Stiles said and Amara nodded in agreement. "Uh-huh. How 'bout you two prove your asses back home, where you should be?" Stilinski said and the two teens nodded.
"Yep!"
ð¦
In the hospital parking lot, Amara climbs into the back of the jeep and Stiles jumps behind the wheel. Scott sits up in the passenger seat as Amara handed him Lydia's hospital gown. "This is the one she was just wearing?" He asked and Amara nodded, "Yep, and I already got her scent but you're sticking you're head out the window. Not me." She said and he nodded while looking at the blood spot on the gown.
"I'm not gonna let anyone hurt her. Not again." Scott said and Amara nodded, "Yeah, you and me both. Now shove the thing in your face and let's find her." She said.
Scott raises the gown to his nose to catch Lydia's scent as Stiles clicks on the headlights to reveal Allison making them jump. Scott rolled down his window as Allison ran over to the passenger side and Amara leaned forward between the seats.
"What are you doing here? Someone could see you with us!" Amara said and Allison shook her head, "I don't care- she's one of my best friends, and we need to find her before they do." Allison said and Scott nodded. "Amara and I can find her before the cops." He said and Allison raised her eyebrows, "How about before my father does." She said making Amara's eyes widen.
"He know?" She asked and Allison nodded, "Yeah. I just saw him and three other guys leave my house in two SUVs." She said making them glance at each other. "Search party." Amara said and Allison nodded, "More like a hunting party." She said and Scott opened his door to get out.
"Get in."
ð¦
"All right, but if she's turning, would they actually kill her?" Stiles asked after they had been driving for a few minutes, "I don't know. They won't tell me anything, okay? All they say is, 'we'll talk after Kate's funeral, when the others get here'." Allison said.
"What others?" Stiles asked and Amara sighed, "Knowing her family, 'others' most likely mean other hunters." Amara said and Allison sighed and shrugged. "Yeah, I don't know, they won't tell me that yet." Allison said. "Okay, your family's got some serious communication issues to work on. Scott, are we going the right way?" Stiles asked and they both turn to Scott who has his head out the Jeep window, air blasting in his face.
"Take the next right!"
ð¦
Under an eerie quiet, Scott, Amara, Allison and Stiles approach the rotted and burned Hale House. Yellow police tape stretches across the windows and door. "She came here? You're sure?" Stiles asked as they looked around and Scott nodded, "This is where the scent leads."
"But has Lydia ever been here?" Stiles asked looking back at Amara and Allison who shook their heads. "Not with me." Allison and they looked at Amara, "Don't look at me. I rarely come here myself." She said as she glanced over at the spot where her father died.
"Maybe she came here on instinct. Like she was looking for Derek?" Allison suggested and Amara nodded slightly, "If she's shifting in anyway, she could be looking for an Alpha." Amara said and Allison nodded. "Wolves need a pack, right?" She asked and Scott shook his head slightly, "Not all of them." Scott said and Amara cocked an eyebrows at him, knowing he was obviously talking about himself.
"But would she have been drawn to an Alpha? Is it an instinct to be part of a pack?" Allison asked and Amara nodded, "Yeah, we're-we're stronger in packs." She said and Allison raised her eyebrows slightly. "Like, strength in numbers?" She asked and Scott shook his head slightly, "No, like-like, literally stronger, faster. Better in every way." He said.
"Is that the same for an Alpha?"
"That'll make Derek stronger, too."
Before Allison can ask anything else, Stiles waves them over, "Hey, look at this. You see this?" He kneels in front of a thin wire stretched between two trees. Amara looked around before noticing a rope on the ground making her follow it until it got to Scott's feet. She smirked slightly and sat down on the steps of the house, waiting.
"I think it's a tripwire." He said and then pulls back on the wire, triggering the mechanism. They each glance up at the sound of something slicing through the air. Amara smirked in amusement as Scott is yanked off his feet. "Stiles." Scott called out making them turn around around, "Yeah buddy-" They turn around to see Scott hanging off the ground, his ankles bound by tight cord making Amara laugh. "Next time you see a tripwire? Don't trip it."
"Noted." Stiles said and then he and Allison move forward to help Scott down but he stopped them, "Wait." Amara said making them pause, holding still while Scott and Amara focuses on the sounds around them before hearing footsteps coming towards them.
"Someone's coming. Hide. Go!"
Amara grabbed Allison's hand and pulled her behind a tree while Stiles ran behind another one. A few seconds later Argent and a few other hunters walked up to Scott with a smirk. "Scott." Argent said, crouching down in front of him, "Mr. Argent." Scott said nodding slightly. "How are you doing?"
"Good. You know, just hangin' out." Scott said and Amara rolled her eyes at the pun, "Is this one of yours? It's, uh, good. Nice design. Very constricting." Scott said and Argent just sighed. "What are you doing here Scott?" Argent asked, "Looking for my friends." Scott answered. "Ahh... That's right. Lydia's in your group now, isn't she? Part of the clique? Is that the word you use? Or is there another way to put it? Part of your pack?" He asked and Scott shook his head.
"Actually, "clique" sounds about right to me."
"I hope so... 'Cause I know she's a friend of Allison's, and a couple special circumstances such as yourself and Amara? Two, I can handle. Not three. Scott, do you know what a hemicorporectomy is?" Argent asked, "I have a feeling I don't want to." Scott said.
"A medical term for amputating someone at the waist. Cutting them in half. It takes a tremendous amount of strength to cut through tissue and bone like that." Argent said as he drew a line across Scott's stomach, "Let's hope a demonstration never becomes necessary." Argent says and then stands up and him and his men walk off.
Amara, Stiles and Allison wait until they're far enough away before coming out, "You okay?" Amara asked. "Just another life-threatening conversation with Argent." Scott shrugged making Amara chuckle. "Stiles, help me with this." Allison said and they moved to a tree to try to get Scott down while Amara just looked at him.
"You do remember that you have claws, right?" She asked making him look at her, "Oh yeah." He said then flicked out his claws and reached up to cut the cord. "Thanks. But I think I got it." He says and Stiles and Allison glance to each other, impressed while Amara shook her head slightly.
ð¦
Distraught and exhausted, Amara, Scott and Stiles head to the school's main entrance, "She ate the liver?" Scott asked shocked. "I didn't say she ate it. I said it was missing. And if she did? So what? It's the most nutritious part of the body." Stiles said making Amara look at him weird.
"I've never eaten a liver." Scott said and Amara raised her eyebrows at him, "Right, because when it comes to werewolves you're the best model of self-control." Amara said making Scott mockingly stick his tongue out at her and she flicked his forehead. Stiles suddenly stopped making Scott and Amara stop and look at him. "Hold on. You guys are the test case for this. We should be going over what happened to you." Stiles said and Scott looked at him confused, "What do you mean?"
"I mean, like, what was going through your mind when you were turning, you know? What were you drawn to?" Stiles asked. "Allison." Scott said making Amara groan, "Really? That's it? The first two times I shifted all I wanted to do was violently rip someone apart." She said and Scott just shrugged. "Nothing else mattered at the time. But that's good, right? The night Lydia was bit, the last thing she saw was you." Scott said and Amara sighed. "She was only on the field cause she was looking for Jackson."
ð¦
"It causes me severe mental anguish
to say this, but he's right." Stiles said as they saw in chemistry during a quiz. Scott was next to him while Amara was in front of them. Amara glanced back at him with raised eyebrows, "I know." Scott said making Amara roll her eyes.
"What if the next body part she steals is from someone who's still alive?" Stiles asked and before Scott or Amara could say anything Harris spoke up. "This is a pop quiz, Mr. Stilinski. If I hear your voice again, I may be tempted to give you detention for the rest of your high school career." Harris said and Stiles's eyes widened.
"You can do that?"
"Well, there it is again. Your voice- triggering the only impulse I've ever had to strike a student repeatedly and violently. I'll see you at three o'clock for detention." Harris said making Amara and Scott look at Stiles, silently chuckling. "You too Mr. McCall, Miss. Hale?" Harris asked making Scott and Amara look at him with wide eyes, "No sir." They said at the same time.
Amara went back to her test but looked up when Jackson suddenly shot up from his seat, holding his nose. Amara looked over at his table and noticed the black dot on his test making her eyes widen. She sighed in annoyance and started walking to the door but Harris stopped her.
"One at a time Miss. Hale." He said and she waved him off, "Don't care." She mumbled and kept walking but her stopped her again. "If you walk out the door then I will see you in detention today." He said and she looked at him with raised eyebrows, "No you won't." She said then walked out the door.
She made a beeline to the boy's bathroom and banged on the only closed stall, "I'm fine, Danny. Just go back to class." Jackson said and Amara rolled her eyes. "I may be the gay best friend but wrong gay best friend." She said.
"Amara?"
"Open the door." She said and she could hear him scrambling for a moment, "Jackson. Open the door before I break it." She said and got no answer making her sighed. She took a deep breath before roughly slamming her foot into the door, instantly breaking the lock.
Jackson jumped and looked at Amara in shocked but all she could focus on was the black blood stained toilet paper. "You got the bite?!" She asked incredulously as she grabbed his shoulder and pulled him out of the stall. "What? How did you know?" He asked and she squinted slightly and she was about to say but stopped when she heard the door open.
They look over to see Derek standing there, eyes dead set on Jackson who look more nervous then ever. "Derek..." Jackson said as Derek started walking towards him. "You're looking a little pale, there, Jackson. You feeling okay?" Derek asked and Amara gave him a dirty look, "Never better." Jackson lied making Amara raise her eyebrows at him.
"If something's wrong, I need to know. You're with me now." Derek said making Jackson scoff. "Wait- with you? Me? With-with you? What am I, your little pet? I mean, just because you gave me "the bite" doesn't mean I'm part of your little wolf-pack. Sorry, but to be honest, you don't exactly show outstanding leadership qualities." Jackson said and Derek raised his eyebrows at him while Amara nodded slightly.
"He kinda got a good point." She said in a slight whisper making Derek roll his eyes at her. "Look, I've got my own agenda... which doesn't involve running around the woods at night, howling at the moon with you and Amara and McCall, okay? So, why don't you just back the fu-" Jackson said but Derek grabbed his chin and turned his head to look at the black blood dripping from Jackson's ear.
"What is it? What's happening?" Jackson asked and Amara and Derek glanced at each other, "Your body's fighting the bite." Derek answered slowly. "Why?"
"I don't know."
"What does it mean?" Jackson asked but Derek just backs away, slowly shaking his head. As he inches toward the door, the shadows seem to envelop him. Amara sighed in annoyance and ran out after him.
"You gave Jackson the bite? Seriously?" She asked incredulously and Derek sigh and look at her, "Why does it matter?" He said and she squinted at him. "Because it's Jackson Whittemore. I agreed to be in your pack, I didn't agree to the possibility of being in a pack with Jackass Whittewhore." She said and he rolled his eyes.
"I know what I'm doing, Amara." He said making her raise her eyebrows as he started to walk away, "You really don't!" She called out.

Allison opened her locker and pulled out her, plastic-covered black funeral dress before noticing a piece of paper wedged in the vents of her locker door. She pulled it out and unfolded it to see it was a Note that read: Good luck at the funeral, I can't be there with you but I will be there for you
-Amara
Allison smiled softly to her self before going to close her locker. "Nice dress." Someone said making her look over to see some guy holding a camera while going through his locker. "Nice camera." Allison said while smiling at him before her smile slowly fell when she head a couple girls across the hall talking.
"Not her sister. It was her aunt. The one who murdered all those people."
"You mean the crazy bitch who murdered all those people."
"The fire, all those animal attacks? Her aunt."
"Are you kidding? I sit next to her in English."
"Find a new seat." The two girls laughed before Allison slammed her locker shut and quickly walked away. She walked down the hall before someone grabbed her arm and pulled her into a class room. Allison looked down at the ground while Amara closed the door before looking at her to see a tear start to fall down Allison's face.
"How'd you know?" Allison asked and Amara looked at her worriedly, "I could hear your heartbeat from down the hall. What is it?" Amara asked. Allison looked up at her and shook her head slightly, "I-I-I-I-I can't. I can't do this. I can't- I can't go to the funeral. Everyone is going to be watching me, and there are going to be cameras there, and I can't-" Allison said quickly until Amara gently grabbed her arm.
"Yes, you can. Allison, you will be fine. I've done this all before, everything is gonna be fine. We're gonna find Lydia, and it's all gonna be okay." Amara said and Allison shook her head slightly, "I can't go and be like this." Allison said as she gestured to herself. "Aren't you supposed to cry at funerals?" Amara asked and Allison raised her eyebrows, "For her?" Allison asked and Amara shook her head slightly
"You're not crying for her, you're crying for yourself." Amara said making Allison furrow her brows in confusion, "You're crying because you lost your aunt who you love. You lost her in more ways then one." Amara said and Allison nodded slightly. "Yeah..." She said in a slight whisper before Amara brought her hand up and wiped away a tear making Allison stare at her for a moment.
"You'll be fine. And if you need someone whose not a hunter, I'll be there. Just not next to you." Amara said and Allison smiled at her and nodded, "Okay." She said in a slight whisper.
ð¦
Amara sat next to Scott behind a tombstone watching as people crowded for Kate's funeral. Deputy, including Makena and the Sheriff all trying to keep the crowd back as Allison, Victoria and Argent walked throw them. The guy who Allison talked to earlier, Matt, ducked under need the blockade and crouched down, taking picture until a hand reached out and covered the lens.
Both Amara and Makena looked at the man with wide eyes for a moment. A second later Stiles crouched down next Scott and Amara behind the headstone. "Who the hell's that?" Stiles asked and Amara shook her head slightly, "The devil in the form of Gerard Argent. Allison's grandfather." She mumbled making them look at her. Gerard turns his eyes to them sending the three dropping back behind the gravestone to hide.
They looked back up when he looked away and glanced at each other. "Hey, you know, maybe they're just here for the funeral? I mean, what if they're the non-hunting side of the family? There could be non-hunting Argents. It's possible, right?" Stiles suggested trying to be optimistic but Amara and Scott just shook their heads.
"I know what they are... They're reinforcements." Scott said and Amara nodded, "Something my mom and Auntie Talia used to tell me is that Gerard Argent is never not hunting. Pretty sure he's where Kate got it from." She said making their eyes widen. Suddenly Stilinski came up behind them, grabbing Scott's and Stiles's shoulders while Makena grabbed Amara's arm making them all jump. "Ah. The three of you. Unbelievable." Stilinski said as he yanks Scott and Stiles up while Makena pulled her daughter up. "Pick up my tie."
"Got it. Sorry. I know I'm supposed to ask-"
"Seriously?" Makena whispered to Amara while following behind Stilinski, "The daughter of the man who killed the woman at the woman's funeral? A funeral full of hunters? Are you insane?" Makena asked and Amara shrugged slightly. "You're controlling the crowd at the funeral of the woman who burned your ex-fiance." Amara said and Makena gave her a look, "I'm a Deputy doing their job." She said.
The five of them walked over to a patrol car and the three teenagers sat in the back while Makena and Stilinski sat up front. The teens all glanced around in boredom until Stilinski's radio cracked ro life.
"Four-one-five Adam."
"I didn't copy that- did you say four-one-five Adam?" Stilinski asked into the radio while Stiles whispered "Disturbance in a car." to Amara and Scott.
"They were taking a heart attack victim, DOA, but on the way to the hospital, something hit 'em." The man said making Stilinski and Makena glance at each other, "What- hit the ambulance?" Makena asked. "Copy that. I'm standing in front of it now. Something got in the back. There's blood everywhere. And I mean everywhere."
"All right, Unit Four, what's your twenty?"
"Route 5 and Post. I swear, I've never seen anything like this."
"All right, take it easy. We're on our way. Now, as for you three-" Stilinski said, while turning around only to see the back seat was empty making him and Makena sigh..
ð¦
Shrouded by trees, Stiles's Jeep sits on a dirt path. A few yards ahead, Amara, Scott and Stiles keep low to the ground as they approach flashing red and blue lights. Peering out through the branches, they spot the ambulance on the opposite side of the road. Moving from tree to tree, the three slowly catch a view of the blood-spattered interior. A seriously freaked out ambulance driver appears to be trying to explain what happened to an equally freaked out deputy.
"What the hell is Lydia doing?" Stiles asked and Amara shook her head, "I'm not sure if it is Lydia doing this." She said while Scott just shrugged. "What kept you from doing that? Was it Allison and Makena?" Stiles asked looking over at Scott and Amara, "I hope so." Amara and Scott both said at the same time.
"Do you need to get closer?" Stiles asked and Scott closes his eyes for a brief second. He pulls in a deep breath and then shakes his head, "No. I got it." He said and ran off.
After a few minutes Stilinski and Makena had arrived and was talking to Stiles Amara. There was a sudden gush of wind and Amara took a deep breath before catching a familiar scent making her glance around. "Amara? What is it?" Makena asked and Amara stepped away from them before looking in the direction of the woods to see someone with messy strawberry blonde hair stepping out of the tree line.
"Lydia?" Amara asked making everyone else follow her line of sight. "Lydia!" She yelled making Lydia look up and sigh in relief. "Well... is anyone gonna get me a coat?" Lydia asked while holding her arm slightly, completely uncovering her chest. "Oh my god." Amara mumbled in shock before clearing her throat and quickly walking over to Lydia while taking her jacket off.
"Here." Amara said while wrapping her jacket around Lydia's shoulders. Lydia put her arms through the sleeves while Amara buttoned some of the buttons to keep her covered. "Are you okay?" Amara asked, looking at Lydia, "I'm okay." Lydia said in a slight whisper.
"What happened?" Amara asked and Lydia shook her head slightly, "I don't remember..." She said and Amara sighed softly before pulling Lydia into a hug.
