Chapter Ninety-Seven
â Werewolves Of London â
Amara sat across from Scott in the hospital waiting room with her eyes closed as they both listened into the surgery room while Malia walked over and grabbed Scott's hand.
"I think she's coagulopathic. I need another suture. The bullet missed the ascending aorta. Brachiocephalic is intact. Hemodynamics are stable. She's gonna be okay." They heard the doctor say making then sigh in relief.
A few minutes later Scott walked out and started walking down the hall making Amara follow him, "I wanna check on my dad." He said and she was about to say something but stopped when Scott saw the empty room making her sigh softly. "Where's my dad?" Scott asked, turning to her as Stilinski and Makena walked up to them, "Transferred to San Francisco Memorial. He's gonna be fine." He said and Scott nodded slightly.
"And what about Mason?" Scott asked and Stilinski nodded, "Already out of surgery." He said. "Lydia?" Amara asked and Makena sighed softly, "She's all right, too. The bullet missed everything important, thankfully." She said and Stilinski nodded. "Guys, we got lucky." Stilinski said and Scott shook his head slightly.
"They almost died." Scott said and Stilinski nodded, "But they're gonna live. We're gonna have two deputies posted here around the clock. Nobody sets foot on this floor without my authorization." Stilinski said. Scott sighed softly and him and Amara went to walk off but Stilinski stopped them.
"Guys, I got a pretty good idea how you're feeling right now. But the whole Sheriff's department is gonna be on this. I am gonna find out who did this." Stilinski said and Amara chuckled sarcastically and shook her head, "We all damn well know who did this." She said before Scott pulled her away.
"Hey, what do we do?" Malia asked when she caught up to them, "No more peace summits. No more running. No more half-measures." Scott said determinedly. "What's the plan?" Malia asked, "We fight back." Scott said and Malia nodded. "I'm good with that plan." She said and Amara nodded in agreement, "As am I."
"And Gerard? Monroe? The Hunters? We take them all on." Scott said and Amara looked at him with raised eyebrows, "Then we're gonna need more firepower." She said and he shook his head slightly.
"Not just firepower. We're gonna need an army."
â
Deucalion slowly walked into the McCall house hold, glancing around at all the shattered glass and bullet holes from the previous night before looking at Scott, Malia and Amara. "You know my fighting days are over." He said as he walked past them, "That's hard to believe. You once said you'd kill any living thing that got in your way." Scott said.
"I said a lot of things. But eventually, the bodies pile up so high that even a blind man can't ignore them." He said making Malia furrowed her brows, "So, what? You moved into a cave and took a vow of uselessness?" She asked.
"I changed. We should all try it...And I live in a condo." He said glancing back at her, "I liked the old Deucalion better." Malia said and Amara pursed her lips for a second before nodding slightly in agreement. "Well, maybe you've changed, but Gerard hasn't. And he's not going to stop with Beacon Hills. He's got a map with places circled- Toulouse, Brasilia-" Scott said and Deucalion cut him off.
"Logashkino, Zhengzhou... Nemetons of the world." Deucalion said and Amara sighed softly, "You know him. You can out-think him. You can read him." Amara said and. "You've beaten him before." Deucalion said and Scott sighed softly, "He's got a lot of help now. Actually... he's got pretty much everyone." He said.
"You think Gerard's turned you into a pariah? Your power does that. You'll always be an outsider because of your abilities. Gerard wasn't the first person to capitalize on the general public's fear of the "other." And he won't be the last." Deucalion said and Scott shook his head slightly, "So help us stop him." He said and Deucalion sighed softly.
"I think you've realized that stopping Gerard now... means killing him. I'm sorry, Scott. That chapter in my life is over." He said and Amara raised her hand slightly from where she sat on one of the stood, "I'll do it." She said making them all turn to her with raised eyebrows making her frown. "What? Guys, you can't be surprised about what I'm willing to do by now." She said and Malia turned back to Deucalion.
"So, that's it? You're just a pacifist now? What's gonna stop me from slashing your throat?" She asked and Deucalion raised his eyebrows at her, "Plenty." He said and she growled at him. She charged at him but he just stepped over to the side making her miss.
"How'd you do that?" Malia said as she put her back to his, "It's Bagua isn't it? A martial art that takes the path of least resistance. My mom knows it." Amara said as she moved to stand next to Scott and Deucalion nodded. "You think you're going to beat me without fighting?" Malia asked as they start walking in a slight circle, "I think you're going to beat yourself." He said.
Amara glanced over to see Scott doing a couple hand gestures to Malia making her look a him weird. Malia flicked out her claws and went to swipe at Deucalion but he quickly spun around and stepped back making her miss again.
She charged at him again but he just moved over and slightly pushed her to the ground making her groan. He held his hand out to help her up but she just swatted his hand away before standing up by herself. "Okay, so you can protect yourself. But what about everyone else who doesn't know Bagua? They're just gonna get their eyes stabbed out?" She asked and he took a deep breath.
"Look what that war turned me into. I'm not afraid to lose my eyes again. I'm afraid to lose my soul." He said, glancing back at Scott before moving to walk away, "So you won't help us?" Amara asked making him stop at the door and turn to her.
"I didn't say I wouldn't help you. I can offer you guidance. And, my first piece of advice? You might need to lower your standards for allies." He said and Scott raised his eyebrows, "I thought I was." He said and Deucalion looked at him in amusement.
"Lower than me."
â
"Why did he want to meet here?" Amara asked as she, Scott and Malia walked through the halls the Eichen house, "Why did he agree to meet at all?" Malia asked as they turned to walk through a gate to see Peter leaning against on at the other end of the hall.
"Curiosity. Mostly." He said and they nodded slowly, "Okay. I need your help." Scott said and Peter raised his eyebrows. "With what? Another suicide mission? Not interested." He said before looking at Malia and Amara, "Or, do the two of you need my help?" He asked and she shook her head. "We're here for moral support." She said and Amara nodded slightly, "For him, or for me?" Peter asked and Amara raised her eyebrows.
"You'd have to have morals first." She said making hin roll his eyes, "You helped us fight the Ghost Riders-" Scott started to say but Peter cut him off. "Self-preservation." He said and Scott sighed and nodded, "But we couldn't have won without you. You're stronger than all of us. You were the real reason the Wild Hunt-" Scott said but Peter cut him off again.
"Stop. A solid effort, but you don't need to appeal to my ego- it's quite healthy." Peter said and Amara chuckled slightly, "And then some." She mumbled making Peter give her a look before looking at Scott again. "And you're gonna need to work a lot harder than that if you want my help." He said making Scott raise his eyebrows, "What do you want?" He asked.
"Everything pretty much is the way I want it. My penthouse apartment is filled with mid-century furniture. My passport has more stamps than the post office. And did you see the car parked out front? That's a Shelby One Thousand Cobra- there are only one hundred in the entire world. I have two. Two!" Peter said.
"But Gerard has an army, and every single one of them want you dead." Scott said and Peter looked at him, "And you think that means I'm going to enlist in your little endeavor? Because you're going to defeat Gerard? You're not going to beat him, Scott. And let me show you why." Peter said before before flipping a switch to a power box.
The light in the cell next to then turned on making them look over to see a hunter laying on the bed with a rifle in front of him before he notices them. "When I found him, that was pointed at my face. That's a G36, which fires 750 rounds per minute. And, it's empty... For the moment." Peter said before tossing the guy a loaded clip through the lunch tray.
"Peter, wait!"
"What the hell are you doing?"
"Dude!"
"That homicidal guinea pig is going to kill all of us unless you do what is necessary, and I don't feel like dying today." Peter said before putting his fingers in his ears. The man started shooting making them jump back before noticing nine if the bullets were getting through the glass.
"There's something wrong with him."
"Yes! He's shooting at us. If you can't even kill him, how do you expect to win this war?" Peter asked before the man's gun stops, "Don't worry, it's just jammed. It tends to happen with automatic weapons that haven't been serviced regularly. Just slide the bolt back." Peter said making the man do exactly that. "Thanks." He said before aiming again.
"We're not going to hurt you!" Scott tried to say but the guy just started shooting again making Amara roll her eyes, "This is pathetic." She mumbled. "He can't be reasoned with, Scott. He's not only shooting at us because he's afraid, he's trying to kill us because he hates us."
All of the sudden the guy stopped shooting before running at the door and jumping through the glass. Scott quickly shot forward grabbing the gun to block the guy, "Why are you doing this?" Scott asked.
"Because she wants you dead!" The man yelled, "See? Blind obedience." Peter said making Amara sighed and roll her eyes. She walked over before pressing her finger down on the man's pressure point before slamming his head into the wall making Peter hum slightly.
"Hmmm. He never gave up. I would fight with him. I like him. That's how you win a war." He said making Amara look up at him, "And you wonder why you're single." She said making him look at his daughter offended.
"You were never going to help us, were you?" Malia asked making him look over at her, "One day, you'll learn that you can't save everyone." He said making Scott sigh frustratingly. "Yeah, and you can't kill everyone either, Peter. Look, you can fight with us, or fight alone, but one way or another, you'll end up fighting." Scott said and Malia nodded slightly. "I'm guessing it's going to be alone." Malia said before they started walking away.
"You made it this far without getting your hands dirty, Scott! No one makes it through a war with clean hands! If you won't start killing... You better find someone who will."
â
Amara and Malia sat down next to each other on a bench outside the high school when Peter walked over and sat down. "I'm almost getting tired of rejecting you. Almost. I honestly have no idea where you get your obstinancy from." Peter said making Amara and Malia look at him crazy, "We get it from you." Amara said making Peter look at her offended.
"You most certainly do not!" He said and Amara and Malia just gave each other a look, "What do you want?" Peter asked. "We want to give you all the facts. Something else is going on here, something even you can't outrun." Malia said and Peter scoffed, "There is nothing I can't outrun. Running runs in the family." He said and Amara raised her eyebrows.
"You haven't felt it, have you?" Amara asked making Peter look at them, "You need to tell me what you're talking about right now." Peter said. "Well, it's nothing that we can tell you... But I can show you." Malia said before Amara stood up, grabbing her father hand as Malia scooted over on the bench slightly.
Amara pressed down on a nerve that made his claws come out and he looked down at his hand before realization crossed over his features. His eyes widened but before he could say and Amara put his claws to the back of claws to Malia's neck making him gasp. Malia showed him the memory of the Anuk-ite down in the tunnels and when it was effecting her in the station.
Peter gasped as he pulled his hand away and stand up, breathing heavily and shaking his hand as Amara checked on Malia. "What was that?" Peter asked as his daughters got up as well, "The Anuk-ite. It creates and feeds off of fear, and it's affecting the Hunters. And it'll make them come for everyone- even you." Amara said.
"And the incorruptible Scott still thinks he can keep his hands clean." Peter said before looking at his daughters, "That's why you two wanted to meet, isn't it?" He asked and Malia furrowed her brows. "What are you talking about?" She asked and Peter raised his eyebrows, "Lying to someone who's just been in your head? I wouldn't recommend it. You know that your only chance is to surround your delicate Scott with killers. Killers like me... and you." Peter said and Amara rolled her eyes.
"Will you fight with us, or not?" Amara asked and Peter shook his head, "You can't fight that thing." Peter said and started ti walk away but Amara scoffed. "Don't you ever think that's the problem?" Amara asked making Peter stop and turn to her, "What?" He asked.
"All our family has ever done is run and hide to survive, right? Look where that's gotten us, theres only five of us left- and Malia didnt even know she was Hale until last year. Hales are supposed to be the Protectors of Beacon Hills but all you want to do is run and hide. But yeah, no- go run back to your cars and things you care about more than anything else, including your own damn daughters." Amara said.
Peter walked over to them and grabbed their hands, putting keys in their hands. "Both of the cars was for you two." He said before going to walk away again, "Peter." Malia said making him look at them. "We don't want your stupid cars." Amara said as she and Malia tossed him back the keys. Well- Amara more chucked her's at him than anything.
â
"You guys really think this is a good idea?" Amara asked as they walked towards the house that the Primal pack lived, "Arent these people like massive dickbags?" She asked and Scott sighed softly. "It's not our best idea... But it's our only idea." He said and she raised her eyebrows at him.
"Normally our only ideas turn to absolute shit." She said and he nodded, "Let's hope this one doesn't." He said before Scott and Malia started to slow as Malia started breathing heavily. "Whoa! What's wrong with this place?" Malia asked and leaning against the wall while Scott looked down at his shaking hands, "I feel it, too."
Amara sighed in annoyance as she glanced around, "It's the Anuk-ite." She said and Malia looked at her wide eyed. "Are you not feeling it?" She asked and Amara nodded, "I feel it, I've just learned how to turn my fear into anger." She said and Malia went to run off but Scott quickly grabbed her hand. "We came for the pack. It'll be okay. Come on." Scott said and Malia nodded slightly before the three of them slowly started walking into the house, which was more like a shack than a house.
Scott shined the flashlight around to show the place completely empty besides a few beds and trash. Amara took a deep breath before catching the smell of blood and death making her slowly follow it over to a room, "Guys..." She said slowly making them walk over to her. Scott shined the flashlight into the room to see several bodies laying on a pile with what looked like their eyes gouged out.
All of the sudden a clattering sound came from behind them making them jump slightly. "What was that?" Malia asked as Scott turned around and shined the flashlight to see Lydia standing their in a hospital gown shivering.
"Holy shit." Amara said before quickly taking off her outer coat and running over to Lydia, "What are you doing here? How did you even get here?" She asked as she gave her girlfriend the coat."He led me. He wanted me to find it." Lydia said making them furrow their brows, "Who led you?" Scott asked. "Halwyn." She said.
Minutes later they were walking through the woods, Amara had also given Lydia her shoes so she didnt have to walk barefoot anymore. "Why would a dead Hellhound bring you here? Also, isn't he dead?" Malia asked and Lydia sighed slightly, "I guess the connection between a Banshee and a Hellhound-"
"Dead Hellhound?-"
"Is stronger than I thought. As for the why, I'm hoping if I find the body, I'll figure that part out." Lydia said and Amara raised her eyebrows, "You know, there's a pile of dead bodies back there." She said gesturing behind them and Lydia shook her head. "It's a different body." She said and Malia her eyebrows, "There's not another body out here. I'd smell it." She said.
"I'm a harbinger of death. Trust me."
A little while later they ended up finding the body they were looking. Just like the one they saw in the tunnels the other day, no face and skinless. "How is this possible? We saw Parrish kill it." Malia said as the crouched down next to it.
"This one's different." Lydia said and Amara nodded, "Yeah, Lydia's right. This is part of the pack." She said making Malia look over at her confused. "How do you know?" Malia asked and Amara glanced at her before pointing at the marking on the arm, "This is their pack symbol." She said.
"Its skin is gone..."
"Wolves have to burn tattoos into their skin. My tattoo is probably scarred into my muscles, too." Scott said and Amara nodded, "Mine too." She said and Malia nodded slowly. "Okay, but why are there two of these bodies?" Malia asked, "Because the Anuk-ite has two faces." She said and Amara looked at her.
"That's why Halwyn sent you here, Lydia." Amara said and Lydia sighed softly, "He wanted me to find the Anuk-ite's other face." She said.
