Chapter Ninety-One
â Said The Spider To The Fly â
"Wolves, or Werewolves?" Malia asked as she laid on her bed, reading a book about France while Lydia and Amara stood in front of her. "They said wolves." Amara said and Malia flops onto her back and continues reading her book, "Not interested. You go." She said making Amara roll her eyes as she and Lydia glanced at each other.
"Liam was asking for help from the Werecoyote, not the Banshee or the Werewitch." Lydia said after setting down a suitcase, "Why me?" Malia asked and Amara shrugged slightly. "Maybe because you're the former animal." Amara said and Malia raised her eyebrows, "You can turn into a wolf." She said and Amara rolled her eyes.
"Yes, but I didn't spend most my life as a wolf. No one understands mysterious animal situations like you do." She said and Malia flops back onto her stomach and looks at Amara and Lydia with her book still in her hands. "I'm done with mysterious animal situations. I want mysterious men- French ones." Malia said.
Lydia makes a face at Malia before noticing that the website tracking Malia's flight to Paris is blinking "REROUTED". "Your flight's delayed." Lydia said and Malia shook her head, "No, no... It's re-routed. There's a difference." She said making Amara cock an eyebrow at her.
"Delayed is what happens when a flight is rerouted. So, you have plenty of time to help-" Amara said but trailed off when she got distracted by another pop-up on Malia's laptop before continuing. "...And there's a storm system shutting down Charles DeGaulle Airport." She said.
Malia glances back to look at the computer before shrugging and returning to her book, "It's a minor shower." She said making Amara and Lydia look at each other before they gave Malia a look. Malia sighs before turning around and slamming her laptop shut and arguing in a defensive voice.
"Liam's got everything covered. They were just dead wolves. It doesn't sound supernatural to me." Malia said and Amara raised her eyebrows, "We're in Beacon Hills, Everything is supernatural."
â
Amara, Lydia and Natalie stood in Natalie's new office as they unpacks the boxes of Natalie's things. Natalie looks at a sheet of paper in a brown manila envelope in confusion, "What's this?" She asked making Amara and Lydia look at her.
"A list of every supernatural in Beacon Hills, starting with the high schoolers." Lydia said as she started going through a box. "Mmm, no thanks." Natalie said as she closed the envelope back up making Lydia sigh in exasperation. "Mom..." Lydia said and Natalie just shook her head and hummed, "You know stuff. That means you have to do stuff." Lydia said.
"I have an obligation to educate, not eliminate all the problems of Beacon Hills. I have to run a school, and you have to go enroll in one." Natalie said, handing the envelope back to Lydia. "You know the saying- If you see something, say something-" Amara said but Natalie cut her off.
"Please, stop. Honey, I care about you and your friends..." Natalie said, glancing over at Amara who chuckled slightly as she helped pull stuff out of boxes, "But mostly, I care about you. And you're going to be safe three-thousand miles away with your girlfriend, so we don't have to deal with this." Natalie said then sighed and smiles. "I've got work to do." She said before walking over to the door.
"Mom-"
"It's not our problem anymore!" Natalie says before walking through the door. Lydia sighs and looks over at Amara who nodded at of the desk drawers. Lydia walked around the desk before slipping the list of supernatural creatures into the top left drawer. "Ready to go?" Lydia asked and Amara hummed and nodded.
â
"Okay, so you're sure this is everything you need for now?" Makena asked as she and Amara stood in Amara's room, a couple suit cases on the bed. "I think so." Amara said and Makena nodded slowly, "Are you sure you dont want me to come with you. I can help with stuff like rent while you deal with school?" Makena asked making Amara chuckle.
"Mom, I think Lydia and I would like to live by ourselves. And I can't piggyback on your money my whole life." Amara said and Makena sighed and nodded as she wrapped her arms around Amara's shoulders, leaning her chin on Amara's shoulders. "I know, I know. Just like every mom, I think I want my kid to leave, only for them to actually leave and I'm not ready." Makena said and Amara chuckled.
"You say that I wont call you the moment I set foot in Massachusetts to complain about some idiot on the plane." Amara said and Makena took a deep breath, "Yeah... I'm gonna enjoy the peace and quiet after you leave." Makena said making Amara laugh. "Are you gonna say goodbye to your father before you leave?" Makena asked and Amara raised her eyebrows, "Which one?" She said making Makena roll her eyes.
Makena stepped back and Amara turned to her before Makena smiled softly at her daughter. "I'm really proud of you hon." Makena said making Amara smile before Makena pulled her into a hug and kissed the side of her head.

"Is your suit case covered in ducktape?" Amara asked as she opened the back door of the jeep as Scott walked up to her. "Yep!" Scott said as he put his suitcase into the back of the jeep, "You didn't have a second one?" Amara asked and Scott shook his head. "Nope." He said and she pursed her lips and nodded slightly before closing the trunk door.
"Are you leaving your Harley here?" Scott asked as he walked over to the driver side and Amara walked over to the passenger side. "My mom's gonna ship it once Lydia and I gets settled into our apartment." Amara said as they climbed into the jeep.
When Scott closes the door, the entire overhead flip-down mirror falls into Scott's lap, where he finds a note taped to the flap that reads "BE GENTLE" in Stiles' handwriting. Scott smile and looked over at Amara who chuckled, "I was wondering if he would do something like that. Now, let's go get my girlfriend." Amara said and Scott nodded before putting the keys in the ignition and attempting to start the Jeep.
As usual, the Jeep does not cooperate and instead just sputters and flickers. "Aw, come on!" Scott, tries once again to get the engine started, but when it does finally turn over, both him and Amara jumped slightly when they find Lydia standing in front of the Jeep, looking overwhelmed as the headlights illuminate her face.
"We can't leave."
â
Malia sat at her desk in her, anxiously staring at the screen of her MacBook, where she still has the status of her plane up on the internet.
She gulps nervously when she sees that it is still delayed, but when she hits refresh, the screen says that the plane is now on time, making her eyes widen in happiness, "Oui oui!" She yelled as she stands and pumps her fists in the air happily before grabbing her bag and heading toward the door.
However, her face falls when she sees Scott, Amara and Lydia standing in her doorway, blocking her exit. Exasperated, she pointed her finger at them and waves it around as emphasis. "No! No, no, no, no, no! It's just rats! Rats and wolves, and maybe a little bug problem." She said while also shaking her head.
"We need you." Lydia says and Malia shook her head, "And I need Paris." She said and Amara raised her eyebrows. "Paris has been around for two thousand years. It's not going anywhere." Amara said. Malia looks between the three as though she feels betrayed before she turns and heads for her window, intent on climbing out of it and running to the airport if necessary.
Just as she unlocks the window, Amara, Scott and Lydia stopped her. "Malia..." Scott trailed off, "Liam and Mason called-" Lydia went to say but Malia cut her off. "Yeah, they've got it covered." Malia said and Scott sighed, "We can't make you stay, and I don't want to try... But, we were hoping that you would want to." He said and Malia give them a look.
"I don't."
Scott, looking disappointed, shrugs and steps out of the way, "Okay." He said. Malia, bag in hand, prepares to walk out the door, but Amara, intent to convince her sister to stay, moves in front of the door to once again block her way. However, when Malia stops to look at her, Scott grabbed Amara's arm and pulled her out of the way so Malia can leave.
When Malia is gone, they both sigh in disappointment, but after a moment, Malia's bag flies through the door and hits the distracted Scott in the chest before she reluctantly walks back into her room with a scowl on her. The three look happy that she has reconsidered her position as Malia crosses her arms over her chest, "What are we supposed to do?"
"Find a Hellhound."
â
Scott drives the Jeep toward the high school, where Lydia is in the passenger seat and Malia and Amara sitting in the backseat. "We opened a door to another world. And something came out with us. Now we need the Hellhound to stop it." Lydia explained and Malia shrugged, "So we put it back. We've put things back before."
Scott, Amara and Lydia share a concerned look, which only makes Malia more overwhelmed, "Why are you guys looking at each other like there's something you know that I don't know?" She asked and Scott sighed. "It might not be that simple." He said and Amara nodded, "We saved Stiles and brought everyone back, but that's not how it was supposed to happen. There's always a price to pay." She said.
"We learned that from the Nemeton." Lydia said and Malia's eyes widened slightly, "What kind of price? A big price?" She asked. "Big." Lydia said.
A moment later Scott, Amara, Malia and Lydia pulled into the parking lot and quickly park before jumping out and looking around. "Okay, we should move pretty quickly." Scott said, "Do we even know what we let out?" Malia asked and Scott sighed. "This Hellhound might be the only one who does."
Suddenly, the four hear loud roars coming from the wood making them all glance at each other before running off.
After a few minutes they slowly walked up to a body laying dead on the ground in a shallow ravine, his torso still riddled with deep, blood-soaked claw gashes.
"I thought you couldn't kill a Hellhound." Lydia said and Amara sighed as she crouched down next to the body. "It's supposed to be really really hard. Harder than just a simple bullet to the head." Amara said, she was about to get up but a bullet casing next to her foot caught her eye. She picks it up, and she sighed softly when she sees a fleur-de-lis stamped on it, "Argent." She said as she stood up and handed it over to Scott.
"Then it's true." Lydia said making them look at her, "Then what's true?" Malia asked before seeing the scared look on Lydia's face. "What else did you guys hear?" Malia asked. "The sound of people who have never lifted a hand against another human being." Lydia said and Scott furrowed his brows. "Something was killing them?" He asked and Lydia slowly shook her head.
"They were killing each other."
â
Amara, Scott, Malia, and Lydia are sitting at the end of Scott's bed, where the four of them are staring at Scott's phone in his hands and are debating what to do next. "In case anyone forgot-" Florence started to say and Malia gave her a look, "Uhh..."
Amara, realizing the unintentional pun she made regarding the Ghost Riders' memory-manipulation and reality-erasing powers, rolls her eyes. "Yes, I said the word forgot." She said and looks at them with a serious expression before continuing what she was trying to say.
"We almost lost him last time." She said and Scott nods in agreement while Lydia grabbed Amara's hand, but Malia isn't as convinced. "If this turns out to be something big, and we don't call him..." She trailed off and Scott nodded, "He would kill us." He said.
"Maybe we should go back to the woods tonight and find the killer?" Malia suggested and Amara sighed, "You guys didn't see him went he left for Virginia. He was really happy." She said and Scott sighed and nodded. "You didn't hear his voice. He sounded really excited to be there."
"Just play the voicemail." Malia said and Scott pulls up the voicemail on his phone and plays it on speaker so the other two can hear it for themselves.
"Hey, Scott. So, I'm here- I'm in Quantico, Virginia, at the FBI. I'm at the fricking FBI! It's real. I'm really here." Scott and Amara smile at the sound of Stiles' clearly happy voice as Lydia and Malia concentrate on what he's saying.
"But listen Scott. Whatever you're doing right now, just make sure you're still getting out of Beacon Hills. I mean, maybe you think you can't leave, you know, like the whole thing falls apart if you're not there, which, I get... But you have to. I know you're supposed to drive out tonight, so, if you don't call me back, just promise me you're actually going. Just get in the Jeep and go."
