Kenzie's pic^
Hailee's pic^
I was at my locker, shoving my bag in when I suddenly heard loud screams, I quickly closed and locked my locker before stepping back as I felt two figures fly pass me, crashing into a few students that were near by.
I chuckled lightly, "you both are crazy."
I stood there as I heard my two best friends, Kenzie and Hailee grumbling while picking themselves off the ground.
Suddenly I was squished into a hug that I tried to avoid.
"G-guys.... I... Can't... Breathe!" I gasped out, trying to shove them away from me, which was difficult to do with my hands trapped at my sides.
"We missed you so much, Ava!" They screamed in my ears simultaneously.
I cringed as they let me go, then glared their way, "did you have to scream in my ear?"
Kenzie scoffed, "would you prefer I punched you in the face?"
I gave her a look, "yes actually, I do."
Hailee laughed, "oh I've missed you. How was your summer?"
I shrugged, "I've mostly been training, you know how it is."
They were quiet at first, then I felt Hailee move closer and hugged me, "you have to let that go some day. You can't let the past haunt you forever."
I made my face go blank. I didn't like talking about it, even if they were my best friends, I just didn't-- couldn't let it go. "I have to head to class."
I turned and walked away. I don't know where I was going since my mind was raging with memories that I don't want to remember.
"Baby, just stay in your room, okay? Don't get out of your room. Mommy will be right back," mom hugged me tight, then pulled back and looked at me while gently stroking my cheek with a soft smile.
I could see that something was wrong, even though I was just 9 years old, I was smart enough to know when something was just not right.
"Mommy, can't I just go with you?" I pleaded.
She shook her head, eyes swelling with tears, "no honey, please just stay here."
With that, she ran out of my room, the same way my dad left minutes ago to see what the crashing sound was downstairs. I heard more crashing and things breaking.
I tried to block out the sounds until I heard a shout of pain. I knew it was my dad so I ran out, not caring that I was supposed to stay in my room. When I was at the foot of the stairs, I saw my mom holding my dad, crying as he lay still on the living room floor.
"Daddy!" I screamed. I was about to run towards them when something grabbed my hair from behind and pulled me back, roughly, throwing me to the wall near the stairs.
I screamed out as I lay there, tears streaming down my face.
"No! Don't touch her!" My mother screamed as she got up to run towards me when the bad man took out a gun and shot her.
"Mommy!" I cried.
"Shut up!" The man turned to me, pointing the gun towards me.
I bit my lip, stifling my cries. I tried to crawl back into the wall like as if I could magically go through it.
I looked straight at his face. His rugged face covered with scars was the last thing I saw before he pulled the trigger.
I was pulled out of my thoughts when I suddenly bumped into someone.
I was shocked because it's been awhile since I bumped into anyone or anything.
"Watch where you're going!" A voice hissed at me. The voice was deep and yet husky, it would've sounded nice if mystery man didn't sound like an ass.
I looked up towards his voice with a cold expression, "how about you watch where you're going?"
Suddenly I was shoved against the wall, his hand around my throat, "you watch it, little girl, I can make your life a living hell."
I glared coldly at him, "trust me, it already is."
I grabbed his wrist, kneed him in the gut and twisted his arm around, painfully, "now listen here and listen closely, you do not touch me again or I swear I'll make your life a living hell."
I shoved him away from me and headed straight to class. Stupid jerk.
Ryder POV
I watched her walk away from me as I rubbed the arm that she twisted. Who the hell is she?
"Ryder!" A hand smacked down hard on my back. I turned my head and saw Jake smiling at me, widely, "man, you should've seen this chick, she is hot!"
I rolled my eyes, shaking my head, "Jake, nearly every girl with an ass and tits are hot to you."
He shrugged, "true but I'm serious, man, her friends are also smoking hot."
I held up my hand, "not now, man. We need to grab our schedule, where's Derrick?"
"He went to hit on the chicks I was talking about," he grinned widely.
I chuckled, "of course, he is. Why did I even bother asking? Alright, lets head to the office and maybe we'll pass by him and just drag him with us along the way."
"Alrighty then! Lets roll!" he shouted as he started jumping around and spinning at the same time.
I shook my head at his excited form. Maybe I should not have given him coffee this morning... but then that would mean I would have to deal with the cranky side of him so... yea, I'm good.
On our way to the office, we saw Derrick standing next to two girls, one was blonde and the other was a brown-haired girl. Jake was right, they are hot.
"Man, didn't I tell you?" Jake nudged me, grinning widely, "they're smokin' hot, aren't they?"
I smirked, shaking my head, "yes, you dumbass, but for once, could you think with your head and not your dick?"
He gasped, "what? Ryder King, the manwhore of Southern High, is telling me to actually use my head for once?" He placed the back of his hand against my forehead and I smacked his hand away giving him a what-the-fuck look. "I'm checking if you got a fever going that's making you say weird things."
I lunged at him, putting him in a headlock and he burst out laughing. "Man, your face was priceless!"
"You wanna see what else is priceless? You without a dick after I rip it off," I growled at him as I punched him in the gut. He was still laughing even though he was in pain as he laid on the floor, trying to catch his breath.
I looked down at him and rolled my eyes in amusement, then walked towards Derrick and the two hotties. "Derrick."
He turned towards and smiled, "Yo, my man! Hey, let me introduce you to these two beautiful ladies, Hailee and Kenzie."
They both smiled at me as I nodded towards them. "Hey."
"Hailz, Kenz, do you have my binder?" A voice said behind me. I turned and immediately scowled, seeing the same girl who bumped into me earlier.
The blonde-haired girl, Hailee, held out a white binder, "here, I thought you were heading to class."
I scanned her and noticed that she's actually hot too, if you minus the bitchy attitude. She has great long legs that looked great in the jeans she was wearing and the top she wore totally showed her figure. What I don't get is why she wore glasses in the building when it's not even that bright in here.
The mystery girl sighed in annoyance, "yeah but the stupid teacher didn't open the door so I have to wait."
I spoke up, "Awww... Is Ms. Goody Two Shoes sad she can't get into class early?"
She stiffened at the sound of my voice but didnt turn to face me. I wish she would take off the ray bans though so that I could have an idea of how she's feeling but her face was just blank.
Her friends, though, turned to me and glared. Well, someone is overprotective.
"Kenzie, who is the idiot that was talking?" Her soft voice rang through the air until I realized what she said. Idiot? IDIOT?! WHO THE HELL IS SHE CALLING AN IDIOT?!
Before I could say anything, Kenzie, the brown-haired, told her with a slight amusement in her voice, "this is Ryder King."
Her lips pursed like as if she was thinking, then shook her head, "never heard of him. Is he new?"
I gaped at her while Derrick burst out laughing. Who the hell is this girl? I'm the most popular guy in school and she's asking if I'm new? Something is wrong with this chick. "I am not new and stop talking about me like as if I'm not here."
She turned her face towards me, "oh I'm sorry, did I hurt your nonexistent feelings?"
I glared at her, ready to give her a piece of my mind when I was suddenly pushed aside.
"Hey, Ava, sorry about Ryder," I heard Jake say as he gave her a nervous grin, "he can be a real dick."
I stared at him in shock, considering this was the first time I ever saw him act like this with a girl. I turned to Derrick as I straightened myself up and see him trying to hide a smile. "Hey, what the hell is wrong with him?" I whispered.
Derrick turned to me and shook his head in disbelief, "you're kidding right?"
I looked at him, confused, "what? Is there something I should know?"
He just shook his head again and turned to look back at Jake and Ava. "He's crazy about her. I'm surprised you don't even know, considering he talks about her all the time. Shit, he even mentioned her this morning."
I stared at Jake and saw how different he acts around her. He never once made a crude remark, never went into her personal space and he's actually holding a decent conversation with her, but seriously? Why her? I mentally rolled my eyes.
"Jake, come on, we gotta head to class," I called out to him as he laughed at something Ava said. He turned to me, "you can go ahead. I'm gonna walk Ava to class."
Ava smiled up at him teasingly, "are you trying to get me alone so you can take advantage of me, Jake?"
He blushed but jokingly said, "of course I am, this is a great opportunity and I'm not about to let it go."
She laughed, "well, I give you props for such honesty."
He smiled wide and gently grabbed her hand. "Shall I walk you to class, my lady?"
She bowed her head, "you shall, my great knight."
With that, they walked down the hallway laughing, right behind Hailee and Kenzie.
I turned to Derrick. "Seriously, what is wrong with him?"
He laughed as he turned around and started heading to our class and I followed beside him, "you seriously need to pay attention, mahn. He's been like that since last year. He tried to hit on her like he did with the other girls but she never gave him a chance. She totally blew him off and he just stared at her when she walked away with her friends. At first I thought that he just wanted her because he considered her a challenge but everytime he goes next to her, he doesn't try to make her want him. He just tries to be her friend."
I shook my head in confusion, "what? When did this happen? I've never seen her in my life."
He rolled his eyes, "that's probably because you're mostly just shoving your tongue down other girl's throats."
I opened my mouth to deny it, then closed it and shrugged. "Yeah, my bad."
"Look, just don't give him shit about it okay? This is the first girl I ever saw him actually be happy with."
I scoffed, "and you think I'm gonna ruin it somehow?"
He sighed, "I'm just saying, don't do anything that would hurt him or piss him off. He is really protective of her. Enough about that, let's head in before Mr. Fields starts giving out detention."
With that, we walked into class, ending the conversation but as the teacher starts talking about the rules, I can't help but think about Ava. What does Jake see in her that makes her so special?
