Ava's POV

"Logan?" I called out as I walked into the music room.

"Yeah? Have you decided already?"

"Huh?" I asked confused.

He sighed. "You said you would think about joining the talent show."

"Oh right," I thought about it for a moment and then shrugged. "Whatever, sure, I'll join."

Something fell onto the floor and I winced at the loud noice. "Ah, sorry. Are you serious?"

I nodded, smiling. "Yeah, why not? You always lend me the room when I need time to myself so I don't mind."

I was pulled into a tight hug and I froze for a moment before hugging him back. "Y-you okay?"

"Yeah." His voice was shaky and thick with emotion.

I smiled again. "You know, you shouldn't be so surprised. You're like family to me."

He chuckled. "Yeah but you're changing and that's good. I thought you would always keep to your own circle."

I pulled away. "What do you mean? I socialize with others."

"Yes, you do but you always keep them at arms length. Hailee and Kenzie are your best friends but I bet you hide things from them too. Am I right?"

"But they hide things-"

"No, they don't and you know it." Logan sighed before patting my head. "At least open up to someone. Don't keep it to yourself. Anyways, the key is on my desk. Just lock up when you're done okay? I got a meeting in about 15 minutes. I'll send the details about the talent show to Dave."

I nodded as I heard him walk out with the door closing behind him. Well, who the hell am I supposed to talk to? I don't wanna burden anyone, especially my best friends.

I sighed once again before placing myself at the piano. I played with a few keys before I realized that I wasn't in the mood to play so I just got up, grabbed the key and locked up. I dropped the key at the office and decided to walk around. It was already the last period of the day but I just did not feel like going home. Logan doesn't have a class for 6th period so I come by whenever I feel like singing or playing.

My phone suddenly started vibrating, which scared the life out of me. When the hell did I put this on vibrate?

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hey, are we still gonna meet up after school? You know, for the speech..." Ryder trailed off, unsure.

I facepalmed myself. "Right, yes, the speech. Uhh, meet me at the front afterschool. We can head to my house together."

"Okay, see yah."

I hung up, then immediately called my uncle to tell him that I got a ride home. I was already walking through the doors of the school, heading out when the bell rang. School's over. Finally.

It wasn't even 5 minutes when I heard rushing footsteps coming towards me among all the students that were chatting around, excited to get out of school. I smiled, knowing who it was before he stopped beside me, panting.

"You okay there? You sound like you're about to breathe the last air of your life." Amusement filling my voice.

"Well," he panted, trying to catch his breath, "I thought... you were... gonna leave if-"

"Okay, stop," I held out my hand for him to stop. "How about you breathe first before you die from lack of oxygen? Aren't you a jock or something? How can you be this unfit?"

"What?!" He exclaimed. "Unfit?! Are you kidding me? I practically had to run away from my teacher, wrestle my way throu-"

"Okay, okay, I get it, I get it. Lets go, we are wasting time."

"Yes, ma'am!"

He grabbed my hand and led me towards his car, unlocking the door and opening it for me.

"You do know I can open doors for myself?"

"Yeah, so can I. Get in."

I sighed, carefully getting into the car. Once he got in the other side, he started the car and drove towards the hotel. We finally reached the suite and walked straight into the living room.

"Hey, Uncle Dave."

He grunts and I smile, knowing he was trying to sneak up on me. "Hey, kiddo. Who's this?"

"I'm Ryder King. I hope you don't mind that I'm here, sir. Ava said she could help me with an assignment for school."

Ryder POV

I looked straight at the tall man that was staring at me with a blank look. It was like he was observing me. I tried not to fidget under his stare.

"Uncle Dave, quit it. You're making yourself look like a perv." Ava stated with a straight face.

His head snapped her way, gaping. "What? I didn't do anything?"

"Please, I may be blind but even I can feel you're staring at him. He must be really gorgeous for you to perv on someone 10 years your junior."

He scowled. "I was seeing if I can trust him to be alone with you but I just remembered that I should be more concerned about him than about you."

She smirked. "Oh, dearest uncle. Don't worry, he won't hate what I'll do to him."

He grimaced in disgust. "Just go and do your homework."

"Yes, Uncle Dave." She sang, walking away.

I followed after, shaking my head in amusement.

"Hey."

I stopped and looked at him.

"Just shout if anything happens," he whispered.

"I heard that!" Ava said from the hallway.

I chuckled and he rolled his eyes before smiling at me. "If you want anything to drink or eat, don't be afraid to ask Ava."

"Yes, sir."

"Okay, go on. Just to warn you though, I may be nice but do anything to hurt her and you're going to wish that you never met me." He said smiling.

I suppressed a shudder. Somehow, he managed to be the scariest person I have ever met. I smiled weakly, nodding. "Don't worry, I wouldn't dream of it."

"Good." He walked away into what is probably the kitchen while I walked in the direction that I saw Ava walk to. I stopped at a door that had a sign Ava's Territory: Enter in Peace or Leave in Pieces. I chuckled and opened her door.

"What's so funny?"

I looked up and saw her sitting at her desk with a laptop turned on. I looked around her room in awe. It didn't look like a normal teenage girl's room. It was like one of those royal rooms you seem on TV, except more modern.

"Well?"

My attention snapped to her again and I cleared my throat. "Uh, no, it was just your sign."

"My sign?"

"Yeah, the one on your door."

She turned to me with a look of confusion. It's weird how even though she can't see, I feel like she's looking right at me. "What the hell are you talking about?"

I tilted my head in confusion, scratching my head. "Uhh, the one hanging on your door. It says Ava's Territory: Enter in Peace or Leave in Pieces."

She blinked. I wanted to laugh at her adorable expression but I had a feeling she wouldn't appreciate it. "Say what?"

"Uhhh, what?" I asked unsure.

Suddenly, she got up and stormed out. I stood there, not sure what was going on when I heard a yelp. I rushed out to where I could hear the noises coming from just to see Ava's uncle flip her. My eyes widened in shock, just about to rush and separate them when she landed on her feet, just to sock him in the face.

He groaned, holding his hand to face. "Dammit, Ava."

She just shrugged. "Well, thats what you get. I told you to stop putting unnecessary signs on my door."

"How did you even know that it w-" he paused and looked to where I was standing. "You... kid, I-"

"Don't even think about it."

He smiled, sheepishly. "Okay, okay. I'm sorry, I'll put it down."

"No, leave it. I love it." She smiled.

He stared at her before yelling. "The why the hell did you punch me in the face?"

She pursed her lips in thought. "Hm, 'cause you didn't tell me about it."

He sighed, running his hand down his face. "Just get lost and leave me alone. I'm being abused by my niece for no apparent reason."

She smiled, patting his back before walking towards me. She stopped right in front of me and I just looked at her, wondering what she was doing.

"Well? Are you just going to stand there?"

I stood there, confused. Her uncle snickered. "She wants to go to her room without you blocking her way."

I could feel the blood rushing to face in embarrassment. I moved out of her way and watched her walk back to where her room was located. I followed after her and found her seated on her bed with her laptop and papers around her. I looked at the bunch of papers on the bedsheets and thought they were blank until I noticed tiny bumps popping out of the blank sheet.

I grabbed one and ran my fingers over it. "This is Braille right?"

She nodded. "Yup, its the only way I can read."

"How'd you learn it?"

"Uncle Dave taught it to me. Actually he's the one who taught me most of the things that I know. Amyways, enough of the nonsense talk. Lets start."

Let me tell you one thing that I just found out. She is ruthless when it comes to school work. We worked on my speech and surprisingly, it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. We managed to finish it within three hours.

I sighed as I leaned back against her bed since I was sitting on the floor. "Finally. I thought I was going to take forever to do this."

Ava chuckled as she sat up from her bed. She was done with her speech within the first hour and she just fiddled with her guitar as she waited for me. She helped me when I was stuck on a certain part but other than that, the time passed quickly.

"I told you, its easier when you do an outline. It saves you a lot of time and it also helps you line up all your facts. I gotta say, your speech is way better than mine."

I grinned. "Thanks. I mean, I am pretty amazing, aren't I?"

She laughed as she threw her pillow towards me. It hit me in the face before I could even move to dodge. "Uh huh, you're truly amazing."

I grabbed the pillow and threw it back at her. As she moved to catch it, I sprung up and grabbed her around the waist, hoisting her over my shoulder.

Ava yelped as she gripped the back of my shirt. "Ryder! Put me down!"

"No way. This is a rare chance for me." I walked out of her room and went straight to her kitchen, where her uncle was standing behind a beautiful woman, laughing.

He glanced our way and was about to look back to the woman he was talking to before his eyes snapped back to us. "Ava. What is going on?"

Ava huffed. "Uncle Dave, beat him senseless, would you? He won't put me down."

He stared at me as I stood frozen with Ava trying to get off my shoulder. Suddenly, he grinned and took out his phone.

Ava gasped and started struggling even more, making me nearly lose my grip on her. "Uncle Dave, don't you dare!"

It took me a second to realize he was taking a video.

"Oh come on, this is amusing. I can't believe you can't get yourself out of this."

"David, don't be mean." The woman that was cooking said, raising a brow at him.

"Mary! Help me!" Ava whined.

Her uncle started laughing as he circled us, still recording on his phone. The woman, Mary looked at us and her lips twitched. I could tell she was amused at the sight since her eyes were filled with laughter.

"Okay, enough. I made some sandwiches. If you don't want me to feed the dog, then you better hurry and get some."

With that, we were all sitting around in the living room, talking about random funny things.

A/N:

The line "Come in Peace or leave in pieces" came from a story I read from a favorite author of mine. Her name is Sherrilyn Kenyon, she writes the most amazing books that I've ever read! You should totally check it out, especially her Dark-Hunter series😍 I just love them😩😍🤗 Oh and quick question, will I get fined for using a line from her cuz if so, lemme know so I can just change it. I don't wanna get in trouble about my favorite author ever😭😭
