Chapter 14: So Much For Peace And Quiet

Right hook. Left hook. Duck. Block. Upper cut.

My breathing was heavy and rapid as I tried to focus on not getting hit. Three days passed and I was still pissed off, so training with Uncle Dave was the only way I know how to take out my anger.

"You can do better than that, Ava!" Uncle Dave shouted as he kicked me in the middle, knocking the breath out of me.

I tried to focus on his next move but I ended up getting swiped onto the floor and I groaned. I layed there on the mat, panting as he stood over me. "What did I tell you?"

"Don't fight with anger or anger is all you think of and not the task ahead of you," I said breathlessly. I think I was going to die from lack of oxygen because that's how it freaken feels like right now.

"And what did you do?"

"I fought with anger blocking my focus."

"Hm, 10 rounds of the drill, 2 minutes each exercise."

I groaned as I forced myself up to do the workout from hell given by the devil himself. After about an hour and twenty minutes, I was laying on the gym floor trying to catch my breath.

"Okay, now let's spar," he said walking towards me.

"What?" I spat out in outrage.

He burst out laughing, "I'm just playing with you. We are done for the day."

Why you fúcking...

"Come on, little baby." He said teasingly, interrupting my thoughts.

I glared his way as I slowly got up, "You are way too annoying to be my uncle. Are you sure we're related?"

He laughed, "Stop bitching and go take a shower before I change my mind and give you another set of drills."

I immediately started walking out of the gym as fast as my aching body would take me as his laughter floated out the gym. "You're mean, you know that?" I shouted back at him.

After I was finally fresh and clean, I lazed around for a few hours until I decided to play on the piano. So I went downstairs and walked straight to the piano, sat on the bench and started to play a song that I heard playing on a TV show. I searched it up and listened to the tutorial until I finally knew how to play the keys.

I never felt this before

I'm not afraid anymore

Been writing words on a page

'cause I got so much to say

And now I'm taking the stage

Whoa

I'm getting ready to fly

I know it's my time to shine

Don't care if I make mistakes

I'll do whatever it takes

'cause I got so much to say

Whoa

I'm finally me

Got everything I need

What you get is what you see

I, I, I'm finally me

And I never felt so free

There's no one else I'm trying to be

I'm finally me

I couldn't help the smile that grew on my face. For some reason, this song just speaks to me. Sometimes when I'm bored, I would turn on the TV and put it to the Disney channel just to listen to the shows that are playing. Today after I cleaned myself up from training, I was listening to a show named Austin & Ally. I love listening to this TV show everytime it plays because it always manages to make me laugh. Mostly because Dez, Austin's best friend is an idiot. Anyways, the episode I was listening to was about how Ally gave up her personal song just to save her best friend, Austin's career but in the end, the girl she was giving the song to made her sing it since she saw that Ally was willing to give up her song just for Austin. It was really sweet. Although I wonder how they look like. I bet Dez looks like a funny dork.

I've got quirks but they work

I've learned to love those things

Yeah

You don't have to be anyone but you

So let me hear you sing

I sang, putting my heart in it as I bobbed my head to the rhythm. I didn't even notice footsteps walking into the living room, stopping a few feet away. When I ended the sang, I just sat there, playing random keys as I smiled to myself. I nearly jumped off my seat when someone started clapping.

"Wow, that was beautiful," Uncle Dave said gently.

I turned towards the sound of his voice and smiled wider, "Thank you. Shouldn't you be at work or something? Where's Mary?"

"She's at Jersey's place, watching over Sammy since she couldn't find someone to cover her shift."

Jersey is Mary's 27 year old sister who has a son named Sammy. They sometimes come over for dinner. Sammy is five years old and he is really sweet. I love him a lot.

"Aww, why didn't she just bring him over?"

"He's been feeling sick since yesterday, that's why Mary had to go there instead."

I nodded, "Well, I hope he gets better soon."

Uncle Dave snorted, "That boy is strong. I bet he's bouncing around the house, driving Mary mad."

I laughed, "Yeah, true. I'm going to head out to the park."

"Okay, be safe. Don't get into trouble," he said as he walked out of the room.

I rolled my eyes. Why does he keep assuming I'd cause trouble?

I was currently sitting at a bench, listening to the people around me. I could hear the children running and laughing with each other as the adults talked to each other about the funny things that happened the past week. I was slightly smiling, feeling the cheerful air bringing up my mood when someone sat beside me. I didn't turn to acknowledge the person, but I knew who it was.

"Why didn't you come to school today?"

"I didn't feel like going."

"Why not?"

"Ryder, why would anyone want to go to that hellhole?"

He chuckled, "Point taken. So you didn't feel like going yesterday too?"

I hummed in response and leaned my head back.

He was silent for a moment. "It was boring in class without you."

I smirked and slightly turned his way, "Are you saying you missed me?"

He scoffed, "No, I'm just saying that I had no one to annoy for the past two days."

I kept the smirk on my face, "Sure, sure. Whatever you say, King."

He nudged me playfully, "You're still annoying as ever, Winters."

"Yeah, I know."

Silence enveloped us once again when he suddenly stood up and pulled me up. "What the-"

"Come on, you're being boring. Let's go get ice cream."

I scowled as he pulled me after him. "I wasn't being boring, I was enjoying the peace and quiet until you decided to bother me."

"Boring," he sang as he continued to pull me along.

I sighed and just let it go. When we finally entered the ice cream shop, I winced at the loud noises of screaming hyper children. Great, so much for peace and quiet.

"What do you want?" he asked as we stopped at the counter. "There is cookies and cream, mint chocolate-"

"Rocky road," I cut in, "in a waffle bowl."

"Two rocky roads in a waffle bowl."

"Sure thing, anything else?" the man asked. He sounded like he was around our age but I was too annoyed by the noise to pay attention.

"No, that's it."

"Alright, coming right up."

We went to a booth and sat down, waiting for our order number to be called out. It's always crowded in here so people usually sit and wait to be called when their order is ready. To pass the time, he talked about what's been going on for the pass two days I was gone from school. I was laughing at the part when he told me that Jake got slapped by two girls who he tried to hit on. Our order got called so he went and grabbed it.

"So you thinking of coming to school tomorrow?"

"Maybe," I shrugged taking a bite of my ice cream. I moaned as the taste exploded in my mouth. I continued eating when I realized Ryder was unusually quiet. He wasn't even eating his ice cream.

I picked up my head slightly and tilted it, "You okay there?"

He jerked. "Huh?" He cleared his throat, "Yeah, I'm fine."

I furrowed my brow in confusion and asked slowly, "You sure?"

"Yeah, lets just finish up and I'll walk you home." He said quickly.

"Okay, then," I muttered. What's wrong with him?

Ryder POV

God, that was embarrassing! I thought as I quickly finished up my ice cream. I can't believe I got so distracted by the sounds she was making.

I looked up at her as she licked her bottom lip, catching the ice cream that was about to roll down. I was entranced by the sight of her tongue as it licked up the ice cream. I felt my bottom part of me start to stir as inappropriate thoughts started filling up my mind. I wonder if she would moan that way if I rubbed on her-

I immediately shook off the thoughts as my dick started to harden further. You have got to be fucking kidding me...

"You ready?" she cut through my thoughts and I cleared my throat again.

"Uhh, not really. I'm almost done."

"Wow, I never thought you'd be slow at eating ice cream."

I'm not but when you moan and lick your ice cream like that, it distracts a man. I thought as I shifted uncomfortably, trying to make my dick go down. "Yeah, sorry about that."

I seriously need to learn some self-control. After managing to shove the rest of the ice cream down my throat, we walked out of the shop and headed straight to her place. "Where do you live?"

"Hm?"

I chuckled at her adorable confused expression. "Where do you live? Unless you want to come over to my place, I wouldn't mind. I got a small bed but I'm sure we can make it work," I teased.

Instead of throwing me a look of disgust, she laughed and shook her head, "Maybe some other time, King. I live at the Winters Hotel."

I stopped and looked at her, wide eyed. "You what? You live where?"

Winters Hotel is the most extravagant and expensive five star hotel in the state. How did she manage to live there? Maybe her family is rich.

She gave a small smile, "Winters Hotel. I like to call it an apartment, though because it feels way too homey to be a hotel."

"So you live there alone or..." I trailed off.

"No, I live with my uncle and our helper, Mary but she's more like my second mom. I thought you would know about this considering everyone likes to talk about my rich uncle," she ended in a sarcastic, dry tone.

I snorted, "You think I listen to other people who don't know how to mind their own business?"

She shrugged, "I don't know, you tell me."

"I don't. Come on, it's getting dark. I don't want you walking alone at night."

"Awww, are you worried about me, King?" She teased.

"Yes," I said, serious and she smiled at me.

"Well thank you."

We talked about ourselves and realized that we had a lot in common but also a lot of things that we had differences in.

"Okay, here's your stop," I said as we stopped in front of the glass doors to the hotel. "I will see you tomorrow in class right?"

She grinned at me teasingly. "Would you miss me if you didn't?"

I grinned, shoving my hands into my pockets, "Of course I would. You make my days at school interesting."

To my surprise and satisfaction, she slightly blushed which caused my smile to widen. "Well, I guess you'll have to wait and see."

With that, she turned and walked straight through the open doors. I watched her until she disappeared from my view, then I started on my way home.

I went to sleep that night with a smile on my face and I knew it was because of a beautiful blind girl who just wouldn't leave my mind since the first day I met her.
