âMiranda.â
Clarence woke up with a start to discover that a bunch of hospital tubes were stuck to him.
He unplugged them and pulled out his phone, only to see that it was dead.
Clarence rushed out of the room to find a charger. He desperately needed to know what had happened to Miranda.
Clarence remembered that Julian and the others had arrived the moment he fainted, so Miranda should be fine now.
However, Clarence could not be at ease until he saw her.
The floor of the intensive care unit Clarence was on was empty, so he got into the elevator to check out the floor beneath him.
As soon as he got out of the elevator, he saw Peony and the others walking toward him.
Peony and her family had been on vacation in Dragon Soar Heightsâ Villa One, happily taking photos and posting them on Facebook. They had rushed to the hospital after getting a call about Mirandaâs kidnapping.
âClarence, howâs Miranda?â Peony asked nervously.
âHow did she get kidnapped all of a sudden?
âWhatâs going on?â
They all looked at Clarence nervously.
Clarence froze. âMirandaâs in this hospital?â
Peony exploded on the spot. âDonât you know? What kind of husband are you? Miranda was kidnapped.
âThereâs no telling what would have happened to Miranda if William hadnât saved her!
âYouâre her husband, yet you donât even know that sheâs in this hospital!
âWhat are you doing here, then?â
Belle pressed the elevator button. âMom, stop talking to him.
âThe boyâs covered in blood. Itâs disgusting. We have no idea what heâs been doing.
âLetâs go see Miranda first.â
Peony then remembered that they had come here to see Miranda. They had no time to talk to Clarence, so she stepped into the elevator.
Clarence followed her back into the elevator, which took them to a private ward on the third floor.
Miranda was in a hospital bed. Aside from her pretty face looking a little pale, she was in good health.
Mirandaâs expression sank, and her smile instantly vanished once she saw Clarence walk in.
âWhat happened to you, Miranda? You were alright. How did you get kidnapped?â Peony sat down beside the bed. With concern, she took Mirandaâs hand.
Armstrong frowned. âWho kidnapped you?
âThe Murphy family doesnât have any enemies. Could it be Beth Cityâsâ¦â
âBeth City...â Peony trembled.
Miranda shook her head, âMom, it has nothing to do with anyone from Beth City.
âMy kidnapper was Chadwick Miller, the son-in-law of the chairman of Wonder Group and Ceciliaâs husband.
âHe did it because of Clarence.â
Peony and the rest were surprised. âHe did it because of Clarence?â
William made things worse by adding, âItâs not only that the kidnapping was because of Clarence. After Chadwick kidnapped Miranda, he called Clarence, yet Clarence had turned off his phone since he didnât care if Miranda lived or died.
âIf I hadnât gotten there in time to get Miranda off that crane, Iâm afraid she might still be hanging there now.â
âWhat?â
Williamâs explanation made Peony and the rest very shocked and angry.
Miranda had been kidnapped because of Clarence.
Clarence had even turned off his phone when the kidnapper called him.
Clarence immediately explained, âMom, thatâs not true. I went to the rooftop and saved Miranda.
âAlso, I didnât turn off my phone. It ran out of battery.â
Clarence showed them his phone to prove his innocence.
Peony knocked Clarenceâs phone away. âThatâs enough!
âDo you expect us to believe that?
âClarence, you caused Mirandaâs kidnapping, yet youâre still trying to disassociate yourself from it.â
Clarence tried to explain himself, but it was useless. âMom, Iâm telling you the truth...â
William bellowed, interrupting Clarence abruptly, âClarence, would Chadwick have given you trouble by kidnapping Miranda if you hadnât been so shameless as to hook up with Cecilia?n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
âClarence, how can you call yourself a man? You didnât save Miranda when she was in trouble, but now youâre arguing that you were the one who actually saved Miranda?
âHow dare you?
âDo you deserve to be Mirandaâs husband?â Taking the moral high ground, William scolded Clarence as he pointed his finger at Clarenceâs nose.
Furious, Clarence rushed forward and grabbed William by the collar. âWhat are you talking about? Iâm the one who saved Miranda!â
âWhat are you doing?
âYouâre getting so angry because youâre ashamed. Are you going to hit me?â
âClarence, let go of William!â Horrified, Peony and the rest rushed to pull Clarence and William apart.
Instead of being scared, William was actually secretly amused as Clarence attacked him.
The more aggressive Clarence got, the more sympathy William would get from the Murphy family, and the more Miranda would take his side.
Sure enough, Miranda roared, âClarence, do you really want to do that here?â
âDear, I really did save you,â Clarence spoke as he let go of William.
âClarence, this is no time for you to be stubborn.â
Miranda was utterly disappointed.
William sighed and shook his head as he straightened his collar. âUncle Armstrong, Aunt Peony, you can ask Miranda who was the first person she saw when she woke up.â
âMiranda.
âTell us.
âWho was it?â Peony asked hurriedly.
Miranda was silent for a second. âIt was William. William saved me.â
âHow dare you, Clarence? Even my daughter said that William saved her life. Why are you still denying it?â Peony glared at Clarence.
Armstrong was furious. âMiranda was kidnapped, and instead of rescuing her, you turned your phone off.
âWilliam saved Miranda, but now youâve come here claiming that you were actually the one who saved Miranda. What are you trying to do? Take credit for Williamâs actions?â
Belle shook her head begrudgingly. âMom, Dad, donât you know Clarence?
âAll this guy does is talk.
âNot a word of it is ever true.â
Melody was sitting aside, painting her fingers. âIt hasnât been a recent development either.
âHas Clarence not lied over the years?
âEspecially for the better part of this month. Heâs lied almost every day.â
âDear, I didnât...â Clarence feebly argued back.
Mirandaâs face was grim. âF*ck off!â
âDear...â Clarence tried to explain again.
William rolled up his sleeves to chase Clarence out. âMiranda told you to f*ck off. What are you still doing here?
âF*ck off!
âMiranda needs to rest!â
Clarence shook Williamâs arm off. âWho told you to touch me?â
âWhat are you doing? Do you want to hit me?
âGo on!
âI want to tell you off, even if you kill me for it.â William acted righteously and as if he was undaunted by Clarenceâs threat. If Clarence attacked him, he would only win the sympathy of the Murphy family.
Miranda would hate Clarence even more, too.
Clarence kicked William in the stomach. âDo you think I wonât hit you?â
William was squatting on the ground, his face ghastly pale. âClarence, I want to say it, even if you beat me to death. Youâre not good enough for Miranda.
âYou lying, bragging coward.â
William craned his neck. âKill me!â
As Clarence was about to do so, Peony ran over to protect William. She yelled at Clarence like she had gone mad. âWhat the hell is wrong with you? William was just sharing his opinion, yet you want to hit him?â
âGo on!
âWhy donât you just kill me?
âYou little loser, what can you do besides hitting people? How barbaric, you country bumpkin!â
