A few hours later, dinner was ordered, and after they ate, they headed outside. Joe looked around to make sure there weren't any suspicious cars, then Miranda snuck into the back seat and laid down. Joe and Chief Johnson got into the front seat, and they pulled out onto the road.

"Stay down Miranda," the Chief warned her.

"Of course sir," she said and did so. She was tired anyway, and her head was really hurting. So she closed her eyes and let the sound of the car lull her to sleep.

When they stopped, Joe walked around and opened Miranda's door. She sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "Tired?" he asked.

"Yes," she replied.

"We'll get you settled in so you can sleep," he promised and helped her out.

Two cars sat out in front of the house, and the lights were on when they walked up the front stairs.

Three uniformed officers were inside when they entered. Miranda didn't recognize any of them.

The Chief introduced them to Miranda.

"Captain I would like you to meet John, Becky, and Aaron. They are from the Denver P.D."

Miranda shook hands with the three officers.

"It is a true honor to meet you," John told her, "I have heard quite the stories about you," he grinned.

"All good I hope," she smiled back.

"You had better believe it," he told her.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Detective," Becky spoke up.

"Are you hungry?" John asked her.

"No, we just ate," Miranda told him. She sat down on a floral couch, setting her luggage by her then she looked up at Joe. "Are you staying?"

"Yes, but the Chief is not."

"Of course not, he has better things to do than to babysit me," she grinned.

"Too true," Joe nodded, looking at Chief Johnson, who was watching Miranda in concern.

"So how long am I staying?" she asked the Chief.

"Until you are better."

"So tomorrow then?" she grinned.

"Think again Captain, maybe in three days," he told her.

"Okay," she sighed heavily.

"Call me tomorrow on your cell Miranda; we'll be able to tell you if we lifted any prints from your apartment."

"Okay Chief," she said and stood to see him off. "Thanks for taking care of me."

"Of course, you are the best I have, and I have to take care of the best," he grinned, and hugging her, he wished her goodnight then headed home.

Aaron set the alarm system after the Chief left and then Miranda grabbed her suitcases and headed to her room. "I am tired, I will wish all of you a goodnight," she told them.

They nodded at her and she went to close the door behind her, but Becky walked in after her.

"Just making sure you will be comfortable," she said. She pointed out where the bathroom was next door, then Becky looked at Miranda. "Do you need help unpacking?"

"No thanks, I won't unpack because I don't intend on staying for more than a day or two."

"Okay, I am right next door if you do need anything," she offered.

"I will holler if I do, thanks, Becky."

"No, thank you, Miranda, for your service, and goodnight," she smiled then let herself out of the room.

She was back in a minute though. "I think you need come and defend yourself Miranda, your partner out here is telling some pretty wild stories," Becky grinned.

"Joe," Miranda growled and followed Becky to the living room where Joe and the two men were laughing.

"All right Joe, what are you telling them?" she asked.

"Oh just about the bank robber you arrested not too long ago."

"Why are you telling them that story?"

"Because it is funny."

"So he knew who you were and just gave up?" Aaron grinned.

"Something like that," Miranda frowned at her partner.

"What? I was just entertaining them, there isn't any television," he protested.

"If you are telling stories, Joe, then I get to tell some on you," she grinned wickedly.

He flushed.

"Fair is fair," she told him and sat down between Aaron and John. They did not mind at all to have a beautiful woman sit by them. Becky sat by Joe on the other couch that faced the three.

"Let's see, where to begin," she grinned and told them how she and Joe had met, and how he had treated her. Joe flushed at the story. The three officers laughed, thinking it was pretty funny. So there they sat telling funny stories until Miranda yawned, she could not keep her eyes open any longer.

"Miranda, go get some sleep," Joe told her.

"Okay," she yawned, and stood but swayed as she did so, feeling dizzy.

The two men by her side grabbed her before she fell.

"Are you all right?" John asked in concern.

"I have a concussion, and I think that I am not feeling so well right now," she said.

Aaron glanced at her in concern. "Let's get you to your room."

He and John both tucked an arm about her waist and led her to her room, leaving Joe and Becky behind. Becky looked at Joe. "She is unbelievable, maybe I should try that, and see if they act the same towards me," she sighed.

Joe grinned. "You could try, but I think Miranda has it down to an art. She sat between those two on purpose, she knew she would be light-headed when she stood up, and there were two very willing men to help her."

"She did that on purpose?" Becky grinned.

"Oh yeah, I know she did," he laughed.

"I wish I was that good," she sighed.

Joe shook his head. "Don't try it," he said and walked down the hall to Miranda's room.

Aaron had taken Miranda's shoes off, and she was sitting on the edge of the bed.

"I am fine, really. I just stood up way too fast, and I have an awful headache."

"Why didn't you say something?" Joe asked, walking in.

"Because you were too busy telling stories," she pointed out.

"You could have stopped me, Miranda." He walked to her suitcase and opening it he looked through it until he found her bottle of painkillers. He took one out and handed it to her.

"I will go get you some water, and you are going to take that and get some sleep."

"I'll go get her water," Aaron volunteered.

He disappeared out of the room and was back in seconds with a glass. He handed it to her and she dutifully took her pill.

"Good girl," Joe grinned.

"Go away Joe," she complained.

"Hey, the Chief told me to take care of you, so I am."

"You are worse than a mother hen."

Their bickering made the other two men smile at each other.

Joe laughed at her. "Sleep Miranda, I will check on you later."

"Yes, dad."

The three men laughed and walked out the door, leaving her alone.

She got up then and changing into pajamas she crawled into bed and soon the medicine started working, and she was asleep.
