Chapter 19
"Â Let go of Winnie you little bitch."
Rochelle Quinn's POV:
Do you know about the day where all children and teenagers across the world run wild?
The exact day when children make teachers regret even being born?
The day where children and teenagers engage in minor acts of vandalism and pranks?
Yeah, it's called Devil's night. Or most commonly, Mischief night.
And it's also the reason why my school was covered in tissue paper.
And the reason why Kace's hair was covered in egg yolk.
"WHAT THE FUCK?!" Kace screams again as he tries to wash his hair in the restroom basin.
I raise my eyebrows at him, watching silently while his brothers try to hold in their laughter.
I shrugged nonchalantly at his angered expression, "I told you that we shouldn't come to school today. Not my fault that you ignored me."
"This has never happened before!" The egg covered boy complained, "What did you do?"
I snorted at him, "How long have you been going to a public school?"
Keegan answered for him, sounding incredibly bored. "We all went to boarding school for the majority of our lives and we were home-schooled until around 9, 10 months ago?"
"That's your answer then." I smiled at them all, " I hope you all have a great day. Welcome to Mischief night." And then I did the only thing I was good at.
I left.
God, I love Halloween.
-&-
I circled the 3 brothers, judging their interesting choice of costumes.
"Let me guess." I pouted my lips as I stopped in front of Alec.
"Danny Zuko. Very scary Mr Gel Hair." I sent him a sarcastic smile before moving to Ivan.
"Fascinating choice, Mr Trump, it is a pleasure to meet you." I said in a failed British accent, reaching my hand out to shake Ivan's.
I paused when my eyes flicked over the yellow creature. "And Winnie the Poo?"
Sky crossed his arms over himself, I barely caught his words. "I lost a bet."
"You lost a bet?"
Ivan snorted at my mocking tone, biting his lip hard to stop himself from laughing again.
"Shut up, Ivan." Sky's gruff voice didn't sound right in the humorous atmosphere, it was almost comical. "You got us kicked out of a funeral because you started laughing about a meme you saw on Instagram so you don't count."
"You did?" I questioned disbelievingly, shaking my head at the idea of him doing that.
"You stupid snitch." The redhead wrestled Sky into a headlock, tightening his hold on his head.
"Let go of Winnie, you little bitch." I smirked as Ivan complied with my words, "And anyway, what's so scary about Donald Trump?"
Ivan looked at me like I was stupid, "Are you serious? Have you seen his eyebrows? They're like, nonexistent. And his nose! He really needs to contour his nose immediately. His face literally gives me nightmares." He shuddered for the added affect.
Alec gazed at his brother disapprovingly, "I would pay a million bucks to never hear them words come out of your mouth again."
"Maybe Donald's dad can give you a small loan of a million dollars." Sky shrugged, pulling off Ivan's disgusting wig and running away with it. "See you at the party Dipshits." And then he disappeared.
"I'm guessing he still skates?" I asked a moment later, turning back to both the brothers.
"Of course he does." Alec straightened out his jacket, "We better get going before all the beer goes."
"True true." I agreed easily, shrugging my shoulders. "Lets go then."
"Ivan's riding his bike and you're coming in the Merc with me." Alec threw me the car keys as I squealed excitedly, basically jumping into the Matte black Mercedes.
"How'd you manage to afford this?" I inquired, skimming my fingers over the leather seats.
He smirked at me, starting the car. "Business has been good in the past few years."
"I gathered, seen as Sky got sent to Juvie for it." It definitely didn't mean to come out as an insult, or sound like it pissed me off, but it did. And Alec obviously thought it was by the scowl that soon appeared on his face.
"Rocky, what is my favorite movie?"
I pondered for a moment, "That film with Robert De Niro in. Erm...Goodfellas?"
He nodded his head, keeping his eyes on the road. "Correct. And what did I always used to say when we were younger? My favorite quote of all time? The quote I live and breath for?"
I quoted it as though it was written right in front of me, it was almost engraved in my mind. "Never rat on your friends, and always keep your mouth shut."
He smiled, " I'm not happy that my brother was in jail. But I'm proud of him." He paused for a second, tightening his grip on the wheel. "He got through it and he came out with a lot of people respecting him. He had the option to get out of going, if he ratted on us. But he didn't, he stood by the quote that I taught all of you."
"Fair enough."
We pulled up in front of a house, the strong aroma of sweat and alcohol hitting me like a hurricane. Ivan was already stood outside the house, with a bottle of Jack in his hands. Alec shook his head at him, moving past me and taking the bottle away from his younger brother.
"Ew." My lip curled back in disgust as Alec threw the bottle across the front yard. "Are you crazy? I wanted that!"
"Tough." Ivan signed frustratedly as Alec narrowed his eyes at me, "No heavy drinking. You have school tomorrow."
"I hate you." I exclaimed loudly, "It's Halloween! Just let me have a bit of fun with you jerks, I haven't seen you in 5 years!"
"And whose fault was that?" He spat at me without thinking.
I recoiled back as though he had hit me, Ivan's mouth hung open and Alec's eyes widened as he realized what he just said, "Rock-"
"I don't regret what I did." I stated simply, somehow trying to convince myself that it was all worth it. "I probably should. I mean, IÂ ruined a lot of lives by getting us separated and sent away. But it was always better than living there, with him."
"I didn't mean it, Rock," His eyes showed his deep regret at his words, but it didn't offer me any comfort. "The past few weeks have been really eventful, Rock. Sky got out of Juvie and all the trouble with Kade, and then Kace being a dick, and Kenzie being a self-obsessed douche." He held his face in his hands, slowly running his fingers through his messy hair.
I felt a small shot go through me as he spoke about Kace and Kenzie- I didn't understand it. This person I was playing in front of them all, it wasn't me. I wasn't the girl who took Sophomores to parties for the first time, or the girl who comforts her foster brother when he has nightmares. But it was the girl I had to pretend to be. And I wasn't doing it just for me, I had to do it for Alec, Ivan and Skylar too.
I can't lose them again.
But if it was fake, then why did it bother me when Alec spoke about them like that?
Either way, I needed to make them believe that it offended me. I needed the Jensen's to keep me for just a couple of months, until my probation runs out.
I had to play the part.
"What'd he ever do to you?" I asked, crossing my arms. "Kenzie's alright, and Kace is a dick but that just seems to be an aspect of his personality."
He just stared at me as though I was oblivious, or insanely stupid. "Rocky, they have everything. The big house, the stacks of money, the perfect lives. You can't defend people like that."
I know Alec, I know.
Please don't hate me for this.
"Nobody's life is perfect, Al, we know that more than most." I signed, "Please just try to get along with them. If not for Kade, then for me. I don't want to spend my last couple of months being passed around the system. They're my last option before Doyle sends me to a group home."
"She wouldn't." Ivan stared at me with wide eyes, disbelief didn't even begin to describe it. "She can't do that to you again."
"She did it before, why wouldn't she do it again?" I shrugged nonchalantly, trying not to show the fear slowly creeping it's way into my lungs.
"Gothy is over there." Alec gestured his head behind me, an unreadable expression on his face. "You should go."
He was so going to use this against me.
I took a deep breath and signed, waving my hand dismissively at Alec as I turned away and went up to Kenzie.
Oh shit.
"Alright, Gothy?" I shouted while walking over to him, earning myself a few glances from people stood around us. "Is the Vampire life not working for you?" I say, moving my eyes away from the clown outfit.
He shivered as the cool air hit his arms, "Keegan's petrified of clowns. The twins and I take turns in dressing up as one, we've been doing it since we were 12. This year is my turn."
"I bet you're loving it, Count Dracula." I kissed my teeth, raising an eyebrow as the red nose fell off his face.
"Well that failed." He said in a bored voice, "So, Miss Quinn, what have you come as?"
I twirled around, showing him the small wings on my back. "I am an angel."
"You're wearing black, and you've got black devil horns on your head." He pointed out.
I huffed, rolling my eyes at him. "I never said I was a good angel. That'd be boring."
"You do realize how childish you sound? Keegan dressed as an angel once. He was 5." He subtlety took a step closer to me, handing me a bottle of Corona.
I snorted at his patronising tone, "I've been dressing as a demonic angel since I was 11. I'm not going to stop now."
"What the h-"
"Rocky!"Â I flinched back as someone screamed down my ear. "Kenzie!"
"Welcome to my home. Mi casa es su casa." Malia grinned at me, her face lighting up as she saw how close Kenzie had gotten to me. "Happy Halloween, Bitches!"
