Zhuang Nainai stopped in her tracks and suddenly remembered that Si Zhengting once told her about how his father had left his marriage with absolutely nothing for another woman.
This man looked like Si Guangsong, and their ages roughly matched as well. Was he Si Zhengtingâs father, then?
Si Zhengting never liked his father, and so, neither did she. But what was he here for?
Zhuang Nainai thought for a moment before decidedly walking to him. Without saying a word, she began sizing him up.
The man smiled and said, âAre you going to the eighth floor too? Can you bring me in?â
Zhuang Nainai returned his smile. âWell, who are you?â
âYou might have heard of me before. Iâm Si Guangqing, Ding Mengyaâs former husband and the former owner of the Imperial Group.â
It was indeed him!
Having heard Si Zhengting mention this to her before, Zhuang Nainai wasnât particularly surprised. She batted her large, innocent eyes and replied, âBut why should I bring you in?â
âI heard that Ding Mengyaâs hurt, and so I thought Iâd come over to visit her. But the guards have changed recently and they donât recognize me, plus I havenât been in contact with her for quite a while... so I canât get in.â Si Guangqing had lied without batting an eyelid.
Zhuang Nainai grunted, then looked at him cheerily. âI say, itâs not because of the guards... Itâs because Madam Ding doesnât want to see you, right?â
Si Guangqingâs face froze as she spoke. But he was a sly old fox after all, and so he continued smiling gently. âMiss, Iâm Si Zhengtingâs father, after all. Arenât you afraid of offending me?â
Fear flashed across Zhuang Nainaiâs large eyes. âOh, right, Iâm really scared. Iâm scared speechless. Would you like to stand here while I go inform Madam Ding of your arrival?â
Si Guangqingâs face darkened. He realized that she was behaving like this only because she knew of the sour relationship he had with them.
He snorted and took a step back. âOkay, you donât need to say anything more. Just help me pass a message on to her â tell her that she canât pretend that our prior agreement doesnât count just because sheâs had some memory loss! If sheâs still going to be with that coward, donât blame me if I come back for the family fortune!â
With that, he turned around and left in a taxi.
Zhuang Nainai had no idea what to say as she watched him leave.
How could someone be so despicable?!
He had found another woman, so why wasnât Madam Ding allowed to find her own safe haven?
Zhuang Nainai was a little angry and decided that she was never going to pass the message on to Ding Mengya. If she did, Ding Mengya would surely choose to continue drifting for the sake of Si Zhengting.
Her life was bitter and hard enough already.
Elegantly filled with trees and flowers, the villa compound was extremely large, and it took Zhuang Nainai a full half an hour to walk from the entrance to the eighth floor.
She knocked on the door, and a housekeeper came to receive her. She heard faint sounds of laughter coming from inside, and as she walked in, she realized that it was Butler Li who was playing chess with Ding Mengya.
Both of them werenât young anymore, but the way that the sunlight shone on them as they sat serenely by the balcony made one suddenly think of the phrase âto grow old together.â
At the sight of Zhuang Nainai, Ding Mengya and Butler Li stopped their game of chess and invited her over for a chat.
Ding Mengya seemed to have truly lost her memory. As she sat silently on the sofa, Butler Li simply looked at her.
Zhuang Nainai decided to go straight to the point. Pulling out a photo from her bag, she passed it to Butler Li. âUncle Li, you grew up with Madam Ding, so you must know who this person in the photo is.â
