MYRA

One Friday evening a month later, Myra was gathering her belongings in the school staff room. It had been a long day, and she was exhausted.

Surprisingly, her tiredness wasn’t a result of dealing with her second graders all day or being woken up to train with the high-ranked pack members.

It was all Sloan’s fault. She thought through the past few weeks and the marathon of sex they’d been having. Particularly over the last couple of days, they were quite insatiable.

Instead of training that morning, they both opted to thoroughly enjoy each other, and Sloan proved to her again that he was wicked good with his tongue.

However, participating in their escapades during the school week was turning out to be a disadvantage to her, especially when her afternoon periods started and her body craved a nap.

~Maybe I shouldn’t solely blame Sloan.~ She smirked. ~I do dish out just as much as he does.~ She blushed, thinking about her wild wolfman.

Myra adjusted the neck of her gray knitted sweater, blushing even deeper. Because of their vigorous and insatiable appetite for each other, she would need to buy more turtlenecks.

Her phone buzzed, and she answered without looking at the displayed name. “Leanne?”

“I’m in the parking lot.”

“Okay, I’ll be there soon.” Myra ended the call and saw a couple of missed calls from an unknown number on her phone screen. She sighed, took a screenshot of her home screen, and sent it over to Sloan.

She’d been receiving hang-up calls at strange times, day and night. But she wasn’t the only one. Sloan was receiving them too.

It had been a little over a month since the disastrous morning after their claiming, and the rogues had gone radio silent. It was both a relief and worrisome.

Sloan believed it was the restricted flow of information between packs, clans, covens, and the council that had somehow kept their spies from receiving vital inside knowledge.

Though Sloan would admit that they didn’t have any new leads on the matter. They weren’t letting this false victory distract them from the unknown threat. Everyone was still on high alert.

“Good night, everyone,” Myra said to some teachers who were still hanging around the staff room chatting with each other or grading papers.

“Good night, Myra,” they parroted as she grabbed her bags, cell phone, and coffee mug and left the room. Returning to work had been weird to start with.

The teachers who were otherworldly creatures automatically treated her differently. She had to remind them that she was the same old Myra and didn’t want the omega rank to affect how they worked as a team.

The human teachers also noticed a change in her, but they shrugged it off as a side effect of her “accident.”

She smiled and nodded to the janitorial staff as she passed by. Leanne parked the blacked-out SUV in front of the school’s main stairwell.

She would exit to wait for Myra, leaning against the front passenger door and surveying the surrounding environment. Today, however, she was talking into her Bluetooth headset as Myra approached.

She opened the back door to allow Myra to place her things inside, then she opened the front door, and Myra climbed in. She closed both doors, rounded the vehicle, and got in.

“I don’t care if all your friends are going. It’s your Christmas holidays, and we always gather together as a family to celebrate,” Leanne snapped at whoever was on the other end of the call.

“So the answer is no. I’m not going to talk Mom and Dad into letting you go.” There was a pause as she listened to them.

Myra took out her phone and was mindlessly scrolling through her Instagram feed, trying to give Leanne as much privacy as possible. But Leanne was pissed with the person, and her voice carried in the enclosed space.

“Brian, you’re nineteen years old and a junior in college. Grow a pair and tell Mom and Dad yourself. You already know my stance on the matter,” she barked at him.

“Yeah, well, you too. I have to go. I just picked up Myra, and I would like to have a human conversation with an actual adult.”

Myra smiled, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw Leanne reach up to her ear and touch the Bluetooth headset, ending the call.

“Be thankful you have a sister and not a kid brother.” Leanne sighed, concentrating on the road before them.

“All this time together and I didn’t realize you had a brother,” Myra confessed, putting away her phone. “Come to think of it, I’ve been selfish. I don’t know much about you.”

“It’s okay. It’s been a hectic past month.”

“Well, it’s about a thirty-minute drive, so tell me about yourself.” Myra smiled, turning her body to look at her.

“Um…” Leanne chuckled nervously, and her cheeks flushed. “Jesus, this is hard.”

Myra giggled. “Don’t overthink it. It’s Brian, right?”

“Uh-huh.”

“Start with him,” Myra encouraged, listening attentively.

“Brian is my kid half brother.”

“Half brother?”

“Yeah, most mates rarely find their second-chance mates in their lifetime, but my dad did. I was six when he met my human stepmother, and a year later, they were married and had Brian.” Leanne smiled, quickly glancing at her.

“It’s fortunate that your dad got a second chance at love,” Myra said sadly, thinking about her own father.

“Vicky’s the best. She took to the community surprisingly well.”

“That’s good.”

“Yeah, Alpha Theo made this pack like a huge, supportive family. Not many packs possess such a high number of hybrids and interspecies relationships.”

“And now the current alpha has his own interspecies partner.”

“Sloan foresaw his mate as being from a different species, even at a young age,” Leanne commented, shocking Myra to her soul.

“What do you mean?”

“I’ve known Sloan all my life,” Leanne stated proudly.

“When we were younger, just newbies training in the art of defensive pack measures, everyone would get together, during breaks or team-building events, and talk about their future mates.

“Sloan was confident that his mate would be of a different species, and he would love and cherish her for all of eternity,” Leanne explained. “Though Elizabeth had vowed to change that fact. Boy, was she wrong.”

Myra was about to reply when a sudden rush of heat erupted throughout her body, causing her to double over, clutching her stomach. She immediately started sweating and panting as another hot flash rolled over her body.

Her breathing increased as she reached over with a trembling hand to turn the air-conditioning on full blast, then angled the vents toward her overheating body.

“Myra?”

But Myra couldn’t answer. She squeezed her thighs together, squirming uncontrollably. The last time she’d felt like this was when she went into heat before she met Sloan. ~Fuck! Am I in heat again?~

“Myra?” Leanne called out again, sounding worried.

Myra glanced over at her, and Leanne’s facial expression dropped. “Oh…” She pressed a button on the steering wheel.

“Call Alpha,” she commanded, and they heard the call dialing over the sound system. Leanne also put her foot down, and the car accelerated. They were almost home.

“Leanne? I’m about to head into a meeting.” Sloan’s voice echoed through the car, fueling Myra’s sexual appetite.

“Cancel it and get home now,” Myra growled at him as Leanne turned the car down the street toward the pack house.

SLOAN

Sloan was just about to enter his meeting when Leanne’s name flashed on his vibrating phone screen.

He’d spoken to Myra through text and knew they were on their way home. Usually, Leanne would text to tell him that they’d gotten home. So it was strange, but not worrying, to receive a call.

He answered immediately. “I’m about to head into a meeting.”

“Cancel it and get home now,” he heard Myra growl in his ear instead. Her voice was like a homing device to his cock as it twitched to life. ~Dammit, even over the phone.~

However, this feeling of arousal was different, yet familiar. It was almost…

“Shit!” He realized what was happening. “I’ll be there in twenty.”

“Make it in fifteen,” she growled again.

~If I run, I can make it in ten~, Sloan thought as he heard her warning him to drive safely. He smiled and ended the call abruptly. “Tristan, something’s come up. You’ll need to facilitate this meeting. I need to leave now.”

“Is everything okay?”

“Myra’s in heat. I’ll leave the car with you.”

“Say no more. Go.” Tristan nodded his head, waving Sloan off.

~“Declan, get your car and meet me out front in two minutes,”~ Sloan commanded as the elevator dinged, signaling its arrival.

Sloan entered the lift and punched in a code so that the elevator would descend without stopping on the numerous floors below.

~“Yes, Alpha,”~ Declan replied. ~“Is everything okay?”~

~“Perfect. I just need to get home as soon as possible, so take me to the nearest woodland point. I plan to run it,”~ Sloan told him.

~“Also, have the pack house evacuated. Once cleared, no one’s allowed inside or out until my say-so.”~

~“Is there a threat I don’t know about, Alpha?”~ Declan questioned, now on high alert. Sloan grinned at his beta’s concern. Before he could answer, the elevator slowed to a stop and opened for him.

He rushed through the building’s foyer, ignoring everyone as he passed by. He knew it was rude, but his mind and cock were preoccupied with getting to his female. Quickly.

Declan was idling by the curb as instructed. Sloan swiftly climbed in, and Declan sped off. “Alpha?”

“There’s no physical threat, so to speak.”

“Then I shouldn’t evacuate the house, but send in a team—”

“NO!” Sloan growled as common sense flew out of his brain. “Myra’s in heat.”

“What do you mean…?,” Declan started to argue. “Oh.”

“Yeah, once the house is emptied, I’ll be disconnecting all the internal cameras. I want you, and you alone, on external camera duties. If anyone asks, the house is a no-go area until further notice.”

“Yes, Alpha.” Declan nodded, pulling the car into a parking area. Sloan climbed out, stripped off his jacket, and tossed it carelessly onto the seat he’d just vacated.

He glanced at his surroundings while he unbuckled his smartwatch and threw it onto his jacket. He sniffed the air, making sure there were no humans around.

Once in the clear, he toed off his shoes and shifted into his wolf, no longer caring to strip out of his suit. As he darted off into the woods, he saw Declan picking up his shredded clothes.

~“I owe you.”~

~“Damn right you do.”~ Declan chuckled in his mind.

Sloan’s wolf shook his head while his paws powered them through the woods toward the pack house.

~I’m coming, my love.~
