SLOAN

After his conversation with Myra, Sloan couldn’t concentrate. He sat behind his desk in his office, staring mindlessly at his now blank computer screen, reflecting on their brief yet strange interaction.

~Jesus, was I wrong?~ He glanced at the clock on the wall and sighed. He then picked up his phone and quickly changed his mind. ~Should I call her now and apologize or wait until I see her in person?~

He picked up the phone again, and his thumb hovered over her name. Before he could tap on her contact information, someone knocked on his door.

He looked up at the polished solid oak door, wishing it was Myra.

“Come in,” he called out, but the scent that followed the opening door disappointed him.

“Hey,” Tristan greeted, entering the office while looking at his tablet.

~So much for that wish.~ Sloan sighed, putting his phone down. He moved the wireless mouse around, and his monitor came to life.

He typed in his password, and his email tab immediately appeared on the screen, where several unopened emails awaited him.

“What do you think?” Tristan asked, tapping away on his tablet.

“Think about what?”

“I sent you an email about forty minutes ago,” Tristan started explaining.

~Shit, how long was I unfocused for?~

“…with some changes to the financial reports from yesterday,” Tristan continued blabbering. Sloan half-listened to his brother as he read through some emails, again not fully concentrating on his tasks.

“What happened?” Tristan asked.

“What do you mean?”

“Something happened, and I’m going to take a wild stab in the dark and say it has something to do with Myra,” Tristan teased, arching one of his eyebrows and lowering his tablet.

“We had a bit of a disagreement,” Sloan confessed. He almost laughed when Tristan quickly sat down on the chair in front of him to listen attentively. He waved his hand, telling Sloan to continue.

“I’m not entirely sure how it happened. One minute, she was telling me that she was heading out with the girls, and the next thing I know, it got heated.”

“Brother, you have a way of speaking to people without realizing that you’re commanding them instead of talking to them.”

Sloan reflected on their conversation and dragged his hand over his face.

“I didn’t command her. I just told her that I wished she told me beforehand,” he said and quickly realized the error. “Fuck!”

“It’s the classic ‘you didn’t ask for permission’ roundabout. Think about it, brother. What was your tone?”

“It was normal, I think,” he lied. “In ordinary circumstances, I don’t think this would have been an issue, but it’s not safe out there at the moment.”

“And I’m sure the rogues going underground isn’t helping with your anxiety,” Tristan grumbled under his breath. His words caused Sloan to tap one of his fingers on the desk.

“I don’t suffer from anxiety. An alpha doesn’t have time for anxiety,” Sloan snapped at him.

Tristan only laughed. “But what about a claimed mate?”

Sloan closed his eyes and prayed for patience. He silently counted to ten before opening his eyes again. It cleared his mind to some degree. He double-clicked on Tristan’s email to open the attached document.

“What’s this you were saying about making changes to the report?” he changed the subject, putting a solid end to their conversation. His brother took the hint and got down to J & Sons business.

As Tristan explained his ideas, Sloan’s eyes dropped to the clock on the right-hand corner of his monitor, and he sighed inwardly.

~This is going to be a long-ass day.~

He reviewed the changes that Tristan recommended, which would be financially beneficial to the company, and agreed to the changes.

Just as he was signing the documents, Declan burst into the room.

“Thirty-three!” he exclaimed in excitement as soon as the door closed behind him.

Sloan and Tristan looked at each other in confusion and looked back at Declan, who was grinning like a fool.

“Thirty-three!” he said again, nodding his head.

“Repeating the number without context isn’t helpful,” Tristan snapped in annoyance.

Declan ignored him and slapped a piece of paper on the desk. “Thirty-three,” he said again, laughing to himself.

Sloan was beginning to question his friend’s sanity. He knew that since meeting Megan, Declan had been celibate and working himself to the bone on the attacks to compensate for his lack of carnal activities.

“I think we finally broke Declan,” Tristan commented under his breath while Sloan picked up the paper and glanced through its contents. His eyes snapped to Declan, who nodded, smiling like he’d just won the lottery.

“Thirty-fucking-three!”

“What the fuck, man! Explain yourself,” Tristan snapped.

“If it wouldn’t result in my painful demise, I could kiss Myra. She’s a fucking genius!” Declan said, motioning Tristan to look at the piece of paper in Sloan’s hand.

Sloan unconsciously growled at his comment and passed the piece of paper over to his brother.

“Well, that’s one mystery solved. We just need to find the fuckers and end them, swiftly and painfully.” Sloan smiled at his friend as Tristan face-palmed himself, still reading the document.

“Twenty-three murdered and nine who survived. But that adds up to thirty-two,” Tristan said, laying the paper on the desk next to Sloan.

“If we factor in Elizabeth’s escape, or kidnapping slash whatever it was, she would make it thirty-three.” Declan shrugged halfheartedly.

“So we’re assuming that Elizabeth may actually be a victim in all this?” Tristan asked.

Sloan had hoped that she still had some redeeming humanity inside her, but he doubted it, since he remembered the reason she was in the dungeons to begin with.

“Until another case presents itself, I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt,” Declan stated without an ounce of compassion for her safety in his voice. He sounded like he didn’t believe her to be innocent either.

“Seeing as they took her then went to her apartment and grabbed some necessities, I’m not comfortable categorizing her as a victim or survivor, but a traitor who’s working in partnership with the rogues.”

Sloan growled angrily, looking at the sheet of paper next to him.

“I’m sure they thought we would be too dumb to figure this out so quickly.” Tristan chuckled, waving at the document.

“They must think, ‘These dumb fuckers can’t figure us out. Let’s throw a curveball at them.’ Maybe we can let Myra look through everything we have, and who knows,” Declan offered with an offhanded wave.

“When was the last time you had a good night’s sleep, my friend?” Sloan shook his head. “Because you’re not making any sense.”

“You mean when was the last time he got his dick wet,” Tristan teased.

Declan rolled his eyes and shrugged. “I don’t know, Alpha.”

Sloan pressed a button on his desk and began to speak. “Shirley, coffee for Mr. Thane, please. Extra strong.”

He noticed his phone’s notification light flashing.

Leanne

We are leaving the restaurant now, and Myra’s demanding I bring her to you.

Leanne

Heads up, she’s a bit tipsy.

He looked at the time and saw that he received those messages about twenty minutes ago. Before he could type his response, they all heard a slight commotion outside before his tiny avenging angel strode into his office.

There was a prolonged pause in which no one spoke, and she just stared at him with lust and desire in an alcoholic haze.

“Out!” she commanded quietly to Tristan and Declan.

The cowards that they were, they obeyed. They both gathered their belongings and quickly exited the room.

Tristan turned to Sloan and gave him a goofy thumbs-up, but Declan grabbed the back of his collar and tugged him out of the room, leaving Sloan and Myra to face off.

He watched as Myra closed the door and shrugged out of her coat and cardigan, revealing the short dress she wore. Her eyes were glowing with arousal, and her sweet vanilla scent filled the room.

Sloan cracked his neck and cleared his throat as her tantalizing scent swirled around him. She slowly walked over to him, stopping twice to toe off her shoes.

~What are you up to?~ he thought as she came up to him and stopped, craning her neck to look up into his face.

He watched as she gathered up her fluffy, bouncy curls and roughly tied her hair up into a bun, licking her lips when she was finished.

He loved the wicked twinkle in her eyes as she placed her hand on his chest and pushed him back.

The shock of her touch and the sudden drop to his chair pulled Sloan out of his trance. “Angel?”

“Shh,” she commanded, placing her finger on his lips to silence him.

He watched as she bent over and placed her hands on his thighs, easing his legs apart. Then she slowly dropped to her knees and started unbuckling his pants.

“Myra?” he tried again, and she shushed him again, taking control. It was a foreign feeling, having Myra dominating their lascivious activities.

He groaned as her small, warm hands reached into his pants and wrapped around his hardening cock. She licked her lips again before tentatively licking up the side of his member.

He slapped his hand on a button on his desk, locking his office door. It was his angel on her knees before him, and he would kill anyone who dared to interrupt them.

“I was trying to apologize,” Myra offered. “I was wrong earlier.”

She was bent panting over his desk. He had just cum deep inside her.

Sloan tensed, unsure of how to interpret this delightful piece of news. “Did the girls convince you to apologize like that?”

“God no,” she gasped. “Over lunch, I thought about it, and I realized I shouldn’t have caught you off guard like that.”

“Since we’re apologizing, I was wrong too. I shouldn’t have spoken to you like that. You’re my mate, not an ordinary pack member.”

“Trust me, I can feel how sorry you are.” She wiggled her butt, and his member stood at full attention inside her.

“Now you’ve done it,” he growled, tugging at the hem of her dress.

“Sorry, not sorry.” She giggled, placing her hands over his, stopping his actions. “But I do have a doctor’s appointment.”

“The fuck you do. There’s no way in hell that you’ll be making that appointment today.”

“But—”

“Two reasons: my cock wants to go for another round or three, and you’ve been drinking,” he said, shrugging off her hands and pulling her dress up and over her head. He dropped it on top of the desk, next to them.

She glanced at Sloan over her shoulder and slid up his shaft, only to impale herself on him, causing both of them to groan in pleasure.

Myra kept moving up and down on his member, so he quickly shrugged out of his jacket and dropped it on the floor behind him.

He unbuttoned the top three buttons of his shirt and yanked it over his head like a T-shirt. It joined her dress on top of his desk.

He placed his hands on either side of her hips and began ramming into her, chasing their second orgasm.
