Anastasia said nothing. She sat on the rug with the kitten in her arms and focused on playing with it carefully.
âWhat should we name the kitten?â Jason asked.
âMaybe you should name the kitten since youâre the one who saved it.â Anastasia looked at Jason.
âHmm⦠I found it on the seventh day after Christmas. Letâs name it Septimus, then. âJason made some milk using the kitten formula and put an egg yolk in it for Septimus.
âSeptimus,â Anastasia called the kittenâs name.
It dawned on her that humans could really find substitutes to relieve their feeling of missing their beloved after losing them.
At that moment, Anastasia seemed to understand why Alastor had treated her well when he had just married her.
It was as if she had a kitten. If the kitten ran away with another stray cat one day, she would be angry but still keep a new kitten to fill the vacancy around her.
In the beginning, she would also like the new kitten very much. However, when it came to making a choice, she would still subconsciously select a kitten that looked similar to the previous one.
If the lost kitten came back one day and looked like a mess after being bullied by the stray cat, she would most likely feel sorry for it and keep it beside her, slowly ignoring the new kitten she had kept later.
âI guessed thatâs human nature,â she thought.
âSeptimus, eat.â Anastasia let the kitten drink milk formula while sitting beside it, taking care of it patiently.
She thought it was unfair for her to treat Septimus as a substitute for Snowball.
Ring!
Anastasiaâs phone dinged suddenly.
She picked up her phone and glanced at it. It was from the chamber of commerce, inviting her to their banquet as Alastorâs wife.
Anastasia was a little suspicious. Technically, the people from the chamber of commerce shouldnât have sent her the invitation since Alastor had admitted he was divorced, and she had also posted a tweet publicly recognizing her relationship with Jason.
Anastasia forwarded the invitation to Alastor and asked: [Itâs the chamber of commerce banquet. Could you arrange for it?]
Anastasia guessed Alastor would prefer to let Felicia attend the banquet.
Soon, Alastor replied to her WhatsApp message: [Iâll get the driver to pick you up tomorrow.]
Anastasia frowned and typed: [Iâm not going.]
Alastor replied: [Jasonâs popularity seems to have dropped.]
His words were full of threats.
Anastasiaâs face darkened. She typed: [How the hell will you leave me alone?]
Alastor replied: [At least you are still my wife for now.]
That pissed Anastasia off a little. She texted: [The lawyer should have notified you.]
However, Alastor informed Anastasia that he had not agreed to divorce: [I donât agree to divorce.]
Anastasiaâs hands trembled as she typed: [Donât go too far. It was you who forced me to sign the divorce agreement. You were the one who publicly announced that we were already divorced and also the one who exposed the divorce agreement!]
Alastor replied: [Well, I donât agree to divorce now. Come home now. Otherwise, what I will do with Jason is not as simple as the exposure earlier.] He seemed like he was throwing a tantrum at Anastasia.
Seeing that, Anastasia pressed her palm against her forehead.
She felt that Alastor had lost his mind.
With reddened eyes, Anastasia asked: [What the hell do you want? Canât you just let me go?]
She only wanted to live the last moments of her life simply.
Yet, Alastor only replied with two words: [Come home.]
Anastasia threw the phone away.
She exclaimed inwardly, âItâs him! I ignored Felicia today, so she used Jason to retaliate against me. As expected, Alastor was helping her.â
After feeding the kitten, Anastasia stood up and looked at Jason, who was placing plates and forks on the table. âJason, I⦠I have to go.â
Upon seeing Anastasiaâs expression, Jason walked over and asked, âWhat happened?â
Anastasia whispered, âI left something at homeâ¦â
âHow about we have dinner first, and Iâll go back with you after that?â
Anastasia shook her head. âJason, we are not really in a relationship. Even family members need to leave some space each other. You donât have to accompany me.â
If Alastor refused to divorce, the court would probably reject her application and only execute it after six months.
Anastasia knew that Alastor did it on purpose.
for She thought that Alastor would agree to the divorce as long as she agreed to leave their marriage with nothing in court.
That was why she publicly admitted her âromantic relationshipâ with Jason and spoke up for him.
Little did she expect Alastor to change his mind and refuse to divorce suddenly. It was obvious that he wanted Jason to be labeled as a homewrecker.
âCanât you leave after having dinner?â Jason had prepared the dinner wholeheartedly.
âI canât.â Anastasia shook her head and left.
Seeing Anastasia leave the house, Jason crouched down on the ground in disappointment and looked at Septimus. âWeâve been abandoned againâ¦â
