Joseline walked over and grabbed her sisterâs arm. âAngeline, are you all right?â she asked concernedly. âHow did you fall into the water? That lifeguard is so irresponsible.â
To her surprise, Angeline pulled away and replied curtly, âDonât I have you to thank for that?â
Looking incredibly aggrieved, Joseline stared back with puppy dog eyes. âHow could you say that? Iâd neverââ
âQuit pretending, Ms. Sorelle. No one else is around, so go on and get to the point,â Angeline interrupted as she eyed her sister with open disdain. One thing was for sureâshe was sick of her sisterâs friendly façade.
Since Angeline had seen through her, Joseline knew there was no longer a need to keep up her pretense. With an evil glint in her eye, she promptly leaned in and whispered, âIâm marrying Hanson soon, Angeline. Youâd better not ruin things for me.â
Angeline looked her in the eye and scoffed. âMy, my, youâve thought this plan out well, havenât you? If you hadnât gotten me drunk back then and pushed me into a strangerâs bed, I reckon Hanson and I wouldâve been married by now.â
Upon hearing that, Joseline stumbled backward in shock.
Oh, sh*t! Angeline knows the truth about that incident!
After looking around frantically and realizing there werenât any surveillance cameras in the room, she finally calmed herself down.
âS-Stop spouting nonsense,â Joseline said through gritted teeth. âI wasnât the one who set you up all those years ago.â
As she continued staring at her sister, Angeline suddenly recalled the latter saying that her child was still alive. Naturally, that piqued her curiosity.
âFine. Letâs not talk about that for now. What I want to know is what happened to my child.â
Joselineâs air of superiority returned as she gave an arrogant sneer. âI didnât lie to you. Your child is really still alive!â
Angeline froze immediately, feeling as though someone had doused her with cold water.
âTell me everything you know,â she demanded, trying desperately to calm herself down by biting her lip and pinching her thigh.
Joseline, on the other hand, was secretly delighted to see her sister in such a panic. Without further ado, she whipped out her phone and began scrolling through her videos. âSpeaking of which, you really ought to thank me. That man had intended to get rid of the baby, but I managed to save her and sent her to the orphanage.â
Angeline still wasnât entirely convinced, but after watching the video, all her doubts disappeared in a flash.
The hospital in the video was where she had delivered her baby, and ward 504, in particular, was where she had stayed.
In the video, a nurse walked out of the ward carrying a newborn and looked around shiftily. When she realized there wasnât anyone else around, she tightened the blanket around the baby and ran off.
Angeline paused the video right at that moment and zoomed in on the babyâs blanket. After scrutinizing it for a while, she was so overcome with emotions that she couldnât stop shaking.
Yes! Thatâs my child!
As it turned out, she had spent a month before her due date making a blanket for her baby. She had even sewn a sunflower on one of the corners, hoping the little one would grow up full of joy and optimism.
âO-Orphanageâ¦â Angeline stammered before throwing her towel away and preparing to rush off in search of her child.
Before she could venture far, however, Joselineâs cold, unfeeling voice rang out. âDo you honestly think the child is still there?â
Stunned, Angeline stopped in her tracks and turned around robotically. âWhat do you mean?â
âThe kid only stayed at the orphanage until she was three years old. She went missing after that,â
Joseline replied as she approached her sister, a wicked glint in her eye.
Just like that, Angelineâs flame of hope was extinguished yet again. She stood rooted to the spot, staring blankly at Joseline.
âIâve checked with the orphanage before, and the director gave me a photo of the woman who kidnapped the child,â the latter said as she dug out a photo of a middle-aged lady and handed it to Angeline. âIf you want to know the girlâs current whereabouts, I suggest you stay far away from Hanson and stop eyeing the companyâs shares!â
Upon hearing her sisterâs threat, Angeline finally came to her senses. Ah, so thatâs the real reason she told me about my baby!
Seeing how smug Joseline was, Angelineâs face grew cold and stern. âDo you think Iâll believe you just because of a few words and photos?â
âWhat do you mean?â
âUnless you find and bring my child to me, I wonât stop fighting for Sorelle Groupâs shares,â Angeline replied calmly. âAs for your wedding with Hanson⦠Who knows if it will go ahead as planned?â
Joseline flinched.
D*mn it. Not only have I not managed to get my threat across, but Iâve also given my leverage away!
Feeling defeated and humiliated, she glared at her sister. âAngeline Sorelle, you b*tch!â
Instead of replying, Angeline merely scoffed and walked away.
Alas, she had only just opened the door when she saw Hanson approaching with a set of clean clothes.
Even though he was frowning, his gaze had softened quite a bit. âWhere are you going?â
Since her thoughts were still a tangled mess, Angeline was in no mood to deal with Hanson or Joseline. âIf youâre so free, Mr. Yiurk, I suggest you keep an eye on your fiancée,â she said coldly.
With that, she hurriedly stepped past Hanson and left the lounge, leaving the man fuming after her.
As clever and sharp-witted as he was, he couldnât help but feel like Angeline had played him for a fool.
Meanwhile, Angeline had made her way to the lobby when she suddenly stopped dead in her tracks, looking somewhat helpless.
Oh, gosh, what have Joselineâs words done to me? How am I supposed to find my child with just a photo? No. I should deal with what I have on hand first.
Having made up her mind, Angeline instructed Nancy to bring her a set of clothes before assuring the film crew that she was fit to continue filming.
At that moment, however, Joselineâs voice rang out.
âSince you canât swim and are at risk of drowning, I doubt this variety show is for you. Mr. Anderson, why donât you let Ms. Sorelle head home to rest?â
Angelineâs face fell instantly. She could feel everyoneâs mocking gazes and hear them speaking in hushed tones.
Lester, too, seemed somewhat awkward as he pondered the situation.
Eventually, he gave in, not wanting to offend the future Mrs. Yiurk. âMs. Sorelle, Iâm afraid we have to ask you toââ
However, before Lester could finish his sentence, his assistant hastily walked up to whisper in his ear and showed him something on the phone.
Lester frowned as he took a look, but it wasnât long before he began chuckling.
âOh dear, Ms. Sorelle, why didnât you tell me about your relationship with Mr. Golding?â he asked politely. âWhat an ignorant fool Iâve been!â
Angeline couldnât help but furrow her brows in confusion. Huh? Whatâs with his sudden change in attitude? And what relationship do I have with Evander?
