Upon her arrival at the hospital, Angeline was met with disgusted stares from the elderly ladies, as if her presence had been unwelcomed.
Hospitals were often where people said goodbye to their loved ones, so it was a somber place.
Angelineâs appearance was not appropriate for the occasion.
Fortunately, she wore a mask to cover her face. Her appearance didnât cause a commotion. She quickly entered the elevator, worried about the possibility of being criticized for her appearance.
Soon, Angeline reached the top floor, where there was no one around to stare at her. She was finally able to breathe a sigh of relief.
When she pushed the door to the ward open, the light was switched off in Sebastianâs room. A faint glow emitted by the lamp illuminated the living room, where Evander sat on the couch, paging through a book.
The warm light from the lamp illuminated his profile, highlighting his sharp features and making him look incredibly handsome.
Hearing the sound of the door, he raised his head to glance at Angeline.
He let out a snort and said, âMs. Sorelle, youâve grown bolder since you found the kids.â
Angelineâs face paled at his words. She attempted to cover her dreadlocks and explained quickly, âPlease donât say that. I styled my hair like this for an advertisement and was in a rush to get back, so I didnât have time to take them out.â
She glanced at the ward worriedly. âBy the way, how are the kids?â
âSylas bought dinner and some snacks for them after he finished work. They ate and then fell asleep,â
Evander reported formally, then closed the book he was holding.
Angeline exhaled lightly and offered a smile. âIâm glad to hear that. They didnât trouble you, did they?â
âNo, itâs easier to understand what theyâre thinking than to understand you,â Evander replied coldly, emphasizing the last few words as if trying to remind Angeline of something.
Angeline pursed her lips and stood rooted in her spot awkwardly.
She knew Evander was still mad at what had happened previously, but she had no idea how to ease their relationship.
In the meantime, Evander stood up and brushed away an imaginary speck of dust from his coat. He reminded her, âSebastian isnât doing well, and Floretta is having trouble focusing on her studies at the kindergarten. I took a few days off for her so she could stay with Sebastian.â
âThank you.â Angeline finally regained her senses. It took her a while to find her voice. âDonât worry. Iâll take good care of Floretta.â
âAre you saying that filming has ended?â
His simple question gave Angeline a slap in the face. Feeling embarrassed, she replied meekly, âNot yet. Two days more.â
âDonât offer to help, then. Iâll ask Francesca to help care for the kids tomorrow.â
âReally?â Angelineâs eyes lit up in excitement.
Evander had a lot of faith in Francesca, who had been looking after Floretta for many years.
Angeline had also spent some time with Francesca and was satisfied with her care. This meant that Angeline didnât have to stress about the kids, as she was confident that Francesca was capable of taking care of them.
She would feel less guilty toward Evander, too.
âIâm doing this for Floretta, so donât read too much into it,â Evander responded frostily. He acted like a stranger who had offered help conveniently.
Angeline watched as he walked past her. Her expression grew somber as a mix of conflicting feelings stirred within her.
She knew Evander was still angry with her, but it felt suffocating to communicate with him in this uncertain way. A look of self-doubt briefly appeared in her eyes.
Yes, Iâm ridiculous for overestimating myself. Evander is smart, so why would he believe me?
Angeline felt a sense of relief that she had not revealed the truth. She had a feeling that something was not right about her sexual assault from five years ago.
I mightâve found my child, but what about Hansonâs ring? The fact that it was discovered in Joselineâs drawer is hard to ignore. If it were not connected to the sexual assault incident that occurred five years ago, Hanson would not have placed it there without reason.
Until now, Angeline couldnât be sure whether Evander had anything to do with the ring.
She was aware that Evander would fly into a rage if he found out that she had suspicions about him without any valid reason.
Angeline was filled with despair. With a bitter laugh, she resignedly trudged toward the shower.
The advertisement shoot proceeded without any issues. Even though Denise taunted Angeline on set, Angeline did not falter. She found ways to make things difficult for Denise, causing the latter to be scolded by the director multiple times.
When filming finally came to an end, the director presented a bouquet of lilies to Angeline along with an invitation card. Beaming, he said, âThank you for working hard, Ms. Sorelle.â
âIâm merely doing my job. Iâm glad I didnât cause you any trouble.â Angeline looked at the invitation card and asked, âWhat is this?â
âDid your manager tell you that youâll have to attend an event on our companyâs behalf? Your mission is to promote our brand to the public.â
âOh, she didnât tell me about that.â Angelineâs brows furrowed.
A company needed to promote its brand using famous individuals, but Angeline had only agreed to work with reputable brands like Starlight Jewelry in the past. These brands had their own Public Relations teams that promoted the brand by leveraging social media trends.
This was the first time she was asked to attend the event personally.
âMs. Sorelle, please refer to your contract. I believe this term is mentioned on the last page. Ms.
Yandell has already signed the contract,â the director replied.
âOkay. I trust you.â Angeline flashed an apologetic smile and added helplessly, âIâll make sure to be there on time.â
The contract clearly outlined this term, so she decided not to back out on her commitment. If she were to do so, she would have to pay a significant amount of compensation for breaking the contract.
When Angeline walked out of the studio, the driver drove the minivan out of the garage. Angeline got into the vehicle.
She swapped her ten centimeters high heels for a pair of flats, then reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. Dialing Nancyâs number, she waited for an answer.
âHello?â Nancyâs voice sounded breathy, as though she had just woken up a while ago.
Angelineâs eyes lit up excitedly. âOoh, you must be having fun overseas! Wonât you introduce me to your new lover?â
âStop it, Angeline,â Nancy replied, sounding shy. She then quickly changed the subject. âWhat do you need from me?â
âAbout attending the event for Moistdore Cosmetics. Why didnât you tell me anything about it? You know Iâm currently occupied with taking care of Sebastian, and I donât have time for anything else.â
âThatâs exactly why you should attend more events to help you relax. Honestly, you look exhausted from working so hard recently.â
