Chapter 0256 Chapter 0256 Ella POV I sat at the kitchen island beside Alexander, absentmindedly poking at the food heâd placed before me. It smelled and looked delicious, but my appetite was nowhere to be found a ridiculous reaction, really.
Alexander allowed me to stew in silence for a while before finally breaking the tension.
âWhatâs bothering you?â he asked, his tone calm but direct âAnd donât tell me itâs nothing. Iâm not so dense that I canât tell when youâre pissed off.â
His bluntness caught me off guard, and I stared at him for moment, struggling to gather my thoughts. He was rightâI couldnât just sulk all day without explaining myself.
âLike I said earlier, I ran into Fiona at the gym,â I began with a slight shrug.
âAnd for some reason, that pissed you off?â he asked, his brow furrowing in genuine confusion.
âNo, not exactly,â I replied quickly. âIâm not angry that I ran into her. Itâs just...â I hesitated, searching for the right words. âThe two of you are very close, arenât you?â
âWe are,â he confirmed without hesitation. âSheâs one of my closest friends.â
âWhy did you never mention her to me before?â I pressed, my tone quieter now.
âIt hadnât come up,â he said with a shrug. âItâs not like weâve sat down and compared lists of our friends. It wasnât relevant until you met her.â
I chewed at the inside of my cheek, mulling over his response. He had a point. Alexander wasnât the type to volunteer personal details unless he thought they were necessary. He hadnât mentioned his brother until we were heading to his pack lands, and he hadnât brought up Christopher Slater until he was introducing us. This was just how he operated.
âDid something happen with Fiona today?â he asked, his brow creasing as he studied me. âDid she say something that upset you?â
I shook my head quickly. âItâs silly,â I admitted. âBut I just got the impression that the two of you were... closer than I realized.â I chose my words carefully, not wanting to sound irrational.
âCloser?â Alexander repeated, and I saw the moment my implication clicked. His eyes widened slightly, and then an amused smile spread across his face.
âFionaâs a childhood friend,â he said, his tone light. âProbably the closest thing to a sister Iâll ever have. She can be annoying, but if she said anything to give you an impression there was more between us, it was a mistake.â
I nodded, though I still couldnât shake the unease in my chest.
Alexander chuckled softly, shaking his head in disbelief. âFiona,â he muttered under his breath. âDo you seriously think Iâd be interested in a woman like her?â
âWhy wouldnât you be?â I asked, genuinely curious. Fiona was beautiful, successful, and they clearly got along well. It wasnât an unreasonable thoughtâor so I told myself.
âWeâre too similar,â Alexander said simply. âWhat would be the point in pursuing anything with a woman like that? Someone as focused on her work as I am on mine. Our paths rarely cross anymore, and Iâm not interested in attempting a longâdistance relationship. Besides,â he added, his tone softening, âIâve told you beforeâIâm not looking to be with anyone permanently.â
1/2 +25 BONUS Chapter 0255 âI see.â I said quietly, turning my attention back to the food in front of me. âI apologize if my behavior earlier was childish.â
âNot childish exactly,â he replied thoughtfully. âBut itâs surprising. Iâ
that.â
not sure Iâve ever seen you irritated like âWell, weâre living together now,â I said with a small shrug. âI suppose itâs bound to happen at some point.â
âDo you have plans for the rest of the day?â he asked, smoothly changing the subject.
I shook my head. âNothing definitive. What about you?â
âIâll be preparing for the Alpha Council meeting tomorrow he answered. âBut that shouldnât take too long... I think.â
