Chapter 2 Mr. Miller, Who Highly Values His Dignity As soon as Crystal entered the house, she saw Anna sitting on the couch in a daze. Her eyes were red and she looked as if she had been crying.
Crystal looked around and couldnât help but ask, âWhat happened, Aunt Anna? Whereâs Dad?â
Anna Smith was John Wintersâ second wife. When Anna heard Crystalâs question, she couldnât help but burst out in anger.
âRobert is such a heartless b*stard! Heâs too cruel! A few years ago, when the Sloan Group struggled, you stayed with him through thick and thin. Now that heâs back on his feet, he dumped you and wants to send your father to jail. Your father is now in detention. Crystal, I told you before that Robert wasnât right for you, but you just wouldnât listen!â
...
Anna kept complaining the whole time.
Crystal was stunned for a moment and muttered, âAunt Anna, donât worry, I... Iâll ask Robert.â She thought that even if they couldnât be together as a couple, they still had a past. Moreover, Robert wouldnât go to such extremes and cut off all ties.
She dialed his number and the call was quickly connected. She humbled herself and said, âRobert, weâve already broken up. I beg you not to take it out on my father.â
Robert sneered and countered, âSomeone has to take responsibility for that loss, no?â
Crystal still wanted to plead for mercy, but he changed the subject abruptly. âThereâs another way out, but it all depends on your willingness! Crystal, as long as you agree to stay with me for five years, Iâll spare Mr. Winters.â
She was dumbfounded as she didnât expect Robert to be such a shameless person. He wanted both the influential connections for his future and her body as well!
Crystal was so angry that she trembled all over. âRobert Sloan, you make me sick!â
He chuckled casually in response. âYou already know what kind of person I am, donât you?â
She gritted her teeth at that. âI wonât be your mistress!â she growled. âDonât even think about it, Robert!â
Robert gave a light chuckle. âIn that case, get ready to hire a lawyer for Mr. Winters. Please donât blame me for not reminding you. With such a large sum, he will get a sentence of at least ten years in prison.â
Crystal sneered. âI will hire the best lawyer!â
âAre you talking about Henry?â Robert calmly smiled. âCrystal, have you forgotten that he is my future brother-in-law? Do you think he will help you with the lawsuit?â
Crystalâs heart sank when she heard that.
He then continued lightly, âCrystal Winters, Iâll be waiting for you to beg me!â
...
As soon as Crystal hung up, Anna cursed him angrily.
âThat b*stard! Heâs dreaming! We will never let him ruin you, even if we have to go down with the ship.â She burst into tears as she mentioned, âMr. Miller is the brother-in-law of that ungrateful man. How can we afford to hire him? Think of a way, Crystal.â
Crystal lowered her gaze for a moment before saying softly, âI am fairly acquainted with Mr. Miller. Iâll try to talk to him.â
Anna was a sensitive woman. When she smelled the alcohol on Crystal and saw a manâs coat draped over her, she guessed what had happened. However, she did not expose it.
...
It wasnât easy for Crystal to meet Henry.
In the lobby of the Justice Law Firm, the receptionist was polite but distant. âIâm sorry, miss. Unfortunately, I cannot allow you to go up without an appointment.â
Crystal regretted not taking the business card last night, but she asked, âIf I make an appointment now, when can I meet Mr.
Miller?â
The receptionist checked and replied, âThe earliest would be in half a month.â
Such a reply left Crystal feeling anxious.
The elevator door at the lobby corner opened, and a man and a woman walked out. The man was none other than Henry, who was dressed in a classic black and white suit, looking sharp and elegant as it gave off a successful elite look. The woman was a hot, curvy lady in her thirties.
As soon as Henry stepped out of the elevator, he saw Crystal, but he acted as if he didnât know her and went straight to escorting his client to the door. He maintained a sense of decency and shook hands with the woman before bidding farewell.
The womanâs voice was alluring and charming as she said, âI must thank you this time, Mr. Miller. I wouldnât have been able to have a smooth divorce and get my share of the property! You have no idea how stingy he was with me after he found a new lover...â
Henry smiled faintly. âItâs what I should do.â
The woman took the initiative and asked, âMr. Miller, how about having a drink tonight?â
Crystalâs gaze fell on the woman, and she felt that with the womanâs figure and appearance, few men could resist her offer.
However, Henry was not an ordinary man. He raised his hand to check the time and politely declined, âIâm sorry, but I have a date tonight.â
The woman was tactful and knew that he wasnât interested in her. She said goodbye coquettishly and got into her car to leave.
After seeing off his client, Henry stopped by the reception desk on purpose. He looked at Crystal and asked, âChanged your mind?â
