When he entered the ward and saw Melanie lost in thought, he frowned. “Why did you want me to come right away? I have many things to handle at the company, and I need to go back for a meeting soon.”

After that, Melanie handed him the maternity test and coldly said, “It’s a maternity test report for me and Neil.”

Jake froze briefly. When he turned to the last page and saw that they were not related, he became furious. “What’s this nonsense?! If Neil isn’t your son, whose son could he possibly be?”

Melanie sneered. “How would I know? Neil has never looked like me since he was little, but he’s always looked like you. Where’s my child, Jake?!”

Her face twisted in anger as she asked.

Jake frowned and said, “What do you mean? Are you accusing me of adultery?!”

“If you’re innocent, prove it to me!”

He threw the maternity test report on the floor and snapped. “You’ve gone too far. Which DNA testing center is this? I’m going to sue it!”

She glared at him and said, “I have a sample of your hair. We can confirm whether Neil’s your son by conducting another test. Are you going to be honest with me, or should I wait for the report and show you the evidence?”

As she finished speaking, a tense silence filled the room. Her heart sank as well.

In anger, she threw a pillow and the fruits from the nearby table at Jake. Her eyes were filled with madness.

“Jake Remus, you liar! You’ve lied to me for over twenty years! Where’s my son?! Where have you sent him?!”

Hatred washed over Melanie once she realized that she had been deceived for years. She wished that she could stab Jake and make him feel the intense pain she was experiencing.

Jake took a deep breath and replied, “Melanie, let me explain.”

She then wiped away her tears. “Fine. Let’s hear how you justify this.”

He sat on the bed and dared not to meet her gaze.

Melanie sneered, and tears rolled down her face.

She thought of her child who had died over twenty years ago. As she came to this realization, she felt an overwhelming sense of pity for herself.

“Get lost! I don’t want to see you!”

Seeing that she was getting agitated, Jake quickly calmed her down. “Melanie, the doctor said you needed to rest. Please calm down. We can discuss this again when you’re feeling better.”

Melanie found it ironic. “What else is there to discuss? Just get out! We’ll get a divorce once I leave the hospital!”

She loved Jake. Even though she knew that he did not love her, she still married him. But at this point, she finally realized that her genuine feelings were not valued. It would have been better if she had saved them for someone else.
