After Jane contemplated for a while, she instructed her driver, âMr. Marshall, drive me to Riverbank Cafe.â
She arrived at the cafe at a little over 7 p.m. Then she ordered a cup of coffee and sat by the window to observe any suspicious people. However, her efforts were futile.
The same person called her again at 8 p.m. sharp.
She picked up the call without hesitation. âWhere are you?â
âGo to the cashier. Sheâll give you something.â
The instruction filled Jane with rage. She gritted her teeth and yelled, âYou asked me out but youâre too afraid to meet me?!â
âWeâll meet once the time is right.â
âHow dare yââ
The disconnect ringtone interrupted her, and she nearly smashed her phone with rage.
Eventually, she calmed down and walked toward the cashier.
Five minutes later, she was looking at a note in amusement. Then she texted the person.
[Youâre asking me to tell Silvia that she and Neil arenât divorced. Wonât it draw them closer instead of breaking them up? Do you take me as a fool?!]
She waited for a while but received no response. Feeling indignant, she sent the person a few more texts.
[Say something! Cat got your tongue?]
[You must be making a fool out of me. Are you Silvia?!]
[Youâre doomed if I find out who you are!]
However, she did not receive any replies no matter how many texts she sent.
Thus, she tore up the note and ordered her driver to drive her home.
Someone slapped her the moment she stepped into Leighton Villa.
âAll you do is go out and have fun! Donât you know how much youâve harmed Leighton Corporation?!â
Jane covered her cheek and looked at her father, Charles Leighton, in disbelief. She wondered if he was still the father who used to adore and love her.
After she got together with Neil, Charlesâs fatherly love for her seemed to disappear overnight. Jane sometimes wondered if Charles was her real father.
âDad, what does that have to do with me? Neil was just using me. He never liked me! Itâs not my fault that he withdrew the funds.â
Charles scoffed and spoke disdainfully, âNeil wouldnât have been so cruel if you werenât useless.â
Janeâs eyes shone with grief. Even so, she did not defend herself because she knew that he would blame everything on her regardless of what she said.
After he vented his anger, Charles returned to his study in a huff.
Only then did a servant dare to approach Jane. âMiss Leighton, Mr. Leighton has been in a bad mood lately due to company affairs. Please donât take his words to heart,â she said cautiously.
âGet lost!â
Jane pushed the servantâs hand away when the latter tried to hand her some house slippers. She ran upstairs to her bedroom with bare feet.
Once she locked the door, she lay in bed and burst into tears with a growing hatred toward Silvia. She felt that she would not have been slapped if it were not for Silvia.
While she cried, she suddenly recalled the note that she had read.
She wondered if Silvia and Neil would break up if she told Silvia the truth.
After some consideration, she made up her mind.
...
Neil drove Silvia to work early the next morning after they had breakfast.
When they arrived at MY Corporation, Neil hugged her and kissed her for a long time before he let her go with great reluctance.
