Silvia frowned. âItâs probably because you two arenât close. It takes him quite a while to warm up to someone, but once you become friends, he can be incredibly gentle.â
Isla shook her head. âI still think he treats you differently.â
At first, Silvia wanted to reveal how she had supported Chris during his lowest point. She had also been his behind-the-scenes agent for some time.
However, after some contemplating, she thought he might not want others to know about his past.
âAlright, letâs not dwell on it. What youâre saying canât be true.â
Isla wanted to add, but the doorbell suddenly rang.
Silvia got up to answer the door. When she saw that it was Neil, she instinctively frowned.
âWhat brings you here, Mr. Remus?â
Neil appeared indifferent as he asked, âWhy did you sell the mansion?â
Silvia did not expect him to find out so quickly. âSince you gave it to me, itâs technically mine now. I can decide to sell or keep it.â
âHave you started dating Chris?â
Silvia felt a bit puzzled as she faced his probing gaze.
âMr. Remus, that doesnât have anything to do with you.â
There was a cold glint in his eyes. Just as he was about to speak, Islaâs voice rang out in the living room.
âSilvia, is it Chris?â
Silvia was worried that Isla would misunderstand when she saw Neil. Therefore, she quickly explained, âNo, itâs a door-to-door salesman.â
While she spoke, she pushed Neil out. She closed the door and said, âMr. Remus, if thereâs nothing else, please leave. I donât want my friend to misunderstand.â
He sneered. âAre you sure youâre worried about that? Arenât you more concerned about Chris getting the wrong idea?â
His words irritated Silvia, and she retorted, âNot everyone can move on to the next relationship right after a divorce like you!â
Neil frowned. Just as he was about to ask what she meant by that, he suddenly remembered running into her and Isla during dinner with Ada.
He cocked an eyebrow in surprise and asked, âAre you jealous?â
Apparently, she was not as unaffected as she seemed when other women were around him.
Silvia rolled her eyes. âMr. Remus, your narcissism is problematic!â
âHowâs your work been lately?â
His random question left her momentarily speechless.
âWhy are you here?â
âNo particular reason. Just checking in to see how youâre doing.â
âThanks, Iâm doing fine. Iâd be better off if you didnât show up.â
While they talked, the sound of footsteps drew near.
âSilvia, where are you?â
Her expression changed. She grabbed Neil by the hand and pulled him into a dimly lit area. Then, she stood at the door and answered Isla.
âThe salesman just left. Iâll go in shortly.â
Isla opened the door, and she was relieved to see Silvia outside.
âIf you donât come in, Iâll think that youâve been kidnapped!â
âAlright, Iâll head in soon. I had a drink and thought Iâd take a walk.â
âShould I tag along?â
Silvia caught a glimpse of Neilâs shadow moving as if he was about to step out. Her heart raced. She immediately pushed Isla inside and locked the door.
âItâs okay. Iâll be back soon. Go ahead and take a shower first.â
The next second, she heard Islaâs voice behind the door.
