Silvia did not care about how Neil reacted to her words. She fetched some water from the bathroom and wiped his body clean.
After she was done, she prepared to return to the living room. Just then, the doorbell suddenly rang.
As she approached the door and caught sight of Mrs. Martin, surprise flickered in her eyes.
Once she opened the door, Mrs. Martin quickly said, âMiss Pond, Mr. Pond has been quite upset since you reported Mrs. Walls and Miss Walls to the police. The family might resort to coercive measures because you refuse to go back. Please be careful during this period.â
Silvia felt touched. From the time she rejoined the Pond Family, she had faced consistent disdain from everyone. Mrs. Martin was the only one who had shown her concern and initiated conversations with her.
âI understand, Mrs. Martin. Itâs quite late, so you should go back.â
After Mrs. Martin left, Silvia felt a little uneasy as if something bad might happen soon.
The next morning, the ringing of her phone woke her up.
âSilvia, turn on the news. Your motherâs holding a press conference to disown you!â
Silvia rubbed her temples as she got out of bed and powered on her computer.
Soon, she found the live broadcast of Mindyâs press conference. Mindy was sitting in front of a swarm of reporters. Her eyes were red from crying, and she appeared worn out. She was portraying a mother whose heart had been broken by her daughter.
Mindy played a recording of her conversation with Silvia yesterday. Of course, she had cleverly edited out the earlier portions. She only included the part where Silvia said that they were not meant to be mother and daughter.
After she played the recording, Mindy buried her face in her hands and cried. It took a while for her to regain her composure.
âEven though Silvia only returned to the family when she was in her teens, I never imagined that she would refuse to acknowledge me as her mother.
I was heartbroken last night...â
She went on and on about her grievances before she finally got to the point.
âFirstly, Iâd like to apologize on Silviaâs behalf for slapping Miss Walls. Iâll do my best to make amends with her. I hope that sheâll be able to forgive Silviaâs impulsive behavior.
âSecondly, concerning her involvement in a love triangle, itâs true that Mr. Remus and Ada had dated for a while. However, I donât know much about their love lives, so I canât comment on it.
âFinally, regarding the call she made to detain Miss Walls and Mrs. Walls, weâll address it appropriately soon. Her father and I will personally visit them to offer our apologies.â
Silvia watched Mindyâs acting with a stoic expression. She pretended to be a mother who deeply cared for her daughter but was powerless to control her daughterâs actions. The act did not stir any emotions in her.
The call had not ended, and Dulcieâs angry voice rang out. âIs your mother out of her mind? Isnât this a sneaky way of shifting all the blame to you?
Iâm so pissed! If she werenât your mother, Iâd be on my way to confront her right now!â
Silvia remained silent for a while before she calmly responded, âDonât worry about this. Iâll handle it on my own. Alright, Iâm going to freshen up and prepare for work.â
âYouâre still going to work?! Before you watched the live broadcast, your mother revealed that you worked at MY Corporation. Thereâs likely a horde of reporters waiting for you at the company. Youâd be better off staying home for a few days.â
Silvia pursed her lips, and her eyes turned cold.
It looked like they really did not want to give her any opportunity to deal with this situation.
âI get it. Iâll chat with you in a bit.â
After the call ended, Silvia freshened up and left her room. She spotted Neil sitting at the dining table with a gloomy expression. Even though the housekeeper had prepared breakfast, he left it untouched.
Silvia sat beside him and took a sip of milk. Then, she turned to him and said, âIf you donât like the food, you can ask the housekeeper to prepare something else.â
He looked at her with a frown and asked, âDo you know that your mother held a press conference this morning?â
She paused briefly before she nodded and replied, âI do. Whatâs the matter?â
âIf you need help, I can get someone to do damage control.â
Seeing the anger in his eyes, she cocked an eyebrow in surprise. âNo need. I can handle it myself.â
Neil furrowed his brows even more. âSilvia, weâre not divorced yet, so itâs only natural for me to be concerned about this.â
