Gill
I cursed silently as Holly disappeared into the crowded hallway. I shoved my skinny body through the groups of people, following in the direction of what I assumed to be the cafeteria. Sure enough, as I pushed open the large metal doors, the smell of stale french fries and soggy meatloaf filled my nostrils. I attempted to locate my new friend, but with my glasses still crushed, it was difficult. I maneuvered my way through the seemingly endless crowd of sweaty teenagers, getting a few curious glances as well.
"-oof!" I grunted as my body collided with another. Goosebumps covered my arms as I was filled with a warm, electric current. I looked up and instantly felt my face begin to burn. This boy...wow. His skin was tanned nicely, he had dark green eyes that reminded me of a swirling lagoon. His lips were full and slightly chapped. His hair was dark brown and it looked like he'd been running his fingers through it. I vaguely remember giving an apology and some half assed explanation of why I had ran right into his very muscled figure.
"Tobias!" Holly poked the guy in the ribs, getting his attention. Was he staring at me? My stomach fluttered at the thought. Holly introduced me to Tobias and gave a wide grin. His forehead wrinkled and he put a thoughtful look on his face.
Oh no, he hates me, I'm such a clumsy idiot,' thoughts ran through my head as I stared up at his beautiful green eyes. He cleared his throat and held his hand out for me to shake.
"Hello, Gill. Welcome to Crimson Lake. I'm Tobias," he greeted in a deep, sexy voice. Oh my.
"Uh- hello...T-tobias," I grimaced at the pathetic stutter in my voice. He then let his perfectly pink lips stretch into an equally perfect smile, making my heart flutter. What the hell was wrong with me? I had seen hot guys before. None of them made my skin tingle or my heart skip... but then again none of them were nearly as beautiful as Tobias. He was just... perfection.
"-GILL!" I jumped about a foot in the air and sheepishly let my eyes fall on Holly, who was staring in amusement. "What is with you two? Keep just drifting off. I said we better go sit down, we're blocking the condiments." I blushed, yet again, and shuffled closely behind Holly as we made our way across the cafeteria, which now seemed a lot less crowded...or maybe I was just paying attention to one person in particular...
NO. BAD GILL.
Fresh start. That meant keeping my sexuality a secret. Besides. There was no way someone like Tobias would ever find a nerdy little ginger like me attractive, even if he was gay.
"Took you long enough. Did you find her?" Sweet jesus. What was with the boys in this town? I eyed the figure sitting at the table in front of me. He seemed to be around the same height as Tobias, maybe slightly shorter. His eyes were a deep chocolate and his skin perfectly tanned. He was definitely good looking, but still nowhere near Tobias.
"Uh, yes I did find Holly, she's right here, see?" Tobias stammered, seeming a tad nervous as he pulled Holly in front of him. Why would he be nervous?
"But Holly isn't-" the guy cut himself off, his eyes suddenly going wide. He coughed and turned his gaze toward me. "I apologize, I'm Ajax, but you can call me Jax. You're Gill right? I believe we have Calculus together?" I smiled kindly and sat beside Holly, across from Jax.
"Uhm, yes I am Gill. Do we? I apologize, I wasn't paying much attention to everyone in the class. I must not have seen you." Jax just snorted.
"I don't pay attention at all. Who the hell cares about Calculus anyway." He leaned back in his chair, taking a bite of an apple he held in his hand.
"So, Gill. Tell us about yourself?" Holly suggested, hitting my shoulder with hers.
"Well uh...my name is actually Gilberto. Gilberto Mendoza. I'm adopted. Hence the hispanic name and the pasty ginger body." Everyone laughed lightly. "I just moved here from New Mexico with my father, Ivan. He just gained ownership of a mechanic shop. Uhh.. I like to paint, and I'm allergic to cucumbers." I found my eyes shifting toward the Greek god known as Tobias, who was sitting beside Jax. He was staring back at me, an unrecognizable look on his face.
"So your the son of the mechanic. That's cool. Me and this grump are gonna work there," Jax said with a smile, nudging Tobias in the side. If Tobias was going to work with my dad, then I would probably see him a lot outside of school... oh boy.
Tobias
God he was perfect. His plump pink lips, his wild mane of ginger curls, and those eyes...I got lost in then every time I looked at him.
But he was a boy... and my mate. Did that mean I was gay? I had never been interested in boys in the past...
'Dude, you're spacing out again. Seriously, whats up?' Jax echoed through the mind link.
'I'll tell you later, I promise.'Â I quickly closed the link, thankful Gill was distracted by Holly's rambling. He blushed at something she said, making my heart flutter. There was no way I would be able to hide this for long...
Brrrrringggg
The bell echoed through the large room, signaling the end of the lunch period.
"So, Gill. What classes do you have left?" Holly asked eagerly.
"Uhm... Advanced art, AP Chemistry, and P.E." And he was smart too! He couldn't be more perfect.
"Well, you'll be alone for art, sadly. None of us are very artistically inclined. Except Tobias and his music," I shot her a glare. She knew I didn't like talking about that... "But I'm in chem, and the two knuckleheads are in P.E."
"I can show you where the art room is if you'd like. I'm headed that direction anyway," Jax stated, smiling at my mate.
"That would be nice, thank you." Gill grinned back, causing my wolf to purr contently.
"See you later, Gill," I said softly, sighing contently when his eyes met mine.
"B-bye, Tobias," his cheeks turned a deep red and he bit his bottom lip nervously, making my heart flutter. Griffin whined as Jax led him in the opposite direction.
"What are you hiding?" Holly suddenly appeared in front of me, giving me a suspicious look.
"What do you mean?"
"You've been spacing out, like a lot. Are you alright?" She asked, concern shown clear on her face.
"I just...I can't tell you. Not yet. Soon, though. I promise," I told her, letting my head drop. I needed to figure out what to do before I started telling people. Having a human mate as an alpha was one 'taboo' already, though still common. Having a mate the same gender? That's just unheard of.
The point of mates, other than being your one true match, quite literally, the other half of your soul, is to breed, especially when one is an alpha. How would we continue the alpha bloodline? Would Drew take over? My head was aching with all the unanswered questions.
"Okay, Toby. I believe you, but you know you can tell me anything, right?"
"I know, thank you." I pulled Holly into a quick hug before we finally made our way down the hall, before dispersing to classrooms on opposite sides.
