Astridâs POV W what happened to me?â I thought to myself as my heavy lids fluttered open. My head feels quite heavy as if I were hit by a ton of bricks.
Still, I fought my eyes open. I want to know where I am. I want to know what happened and if I was saved and returned to a safe place.
The last thing I remembered was my hands getting tied with my feet hanging above the ground. The next thing was falling to the ground, feg a lot of pain, and becoming unconscious because of it.
Am I still in danger?
âAstrid? Astrid, can you hear me?â Drystanâs familiar voice entered my ears as I fought to wake up.
âDrystan?â I muttered as I finally focused my gaze on him.
âIâm right here,â he said softly as he took my hand in his. âHow are you feg?â His brows creased with worry as he leaned over me:
Relief washed over me as soon as I saw his face. I blinked a few times, my eyes adjusting to the light. Thatâs when I noticed another figure standing beside Drystan â Nova, who also looks equally concerned âNova,â I breathed out, a small smile tugging at the corners of my lips.
âWe were so worried about you,â Nova said, her voice laced with relief. She reached out and squeezed my other hand.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I stared back and forth at Drystan and Nova, making sure that this wasnât just a good dream.
I was so afraid. I thought I would never see them again. I was so frightened that I thought I was going to die after I fell from that height. I didnât know how I even managed to survive that high fall.
âHâHow long Iâve been sleeping?â I forced out my voice as my fears threatened to choke me, Nova sat close beside me. âEverything just happened yesterday,â she answered. âYou are safe and healed. Thereâs nothing to worry about.â
My brows furrowed, âHow?â I asked her. This is impossible. Thereâs no way I fell off that height and suffered no broken bones. I thought I was just under general anesthesia, which explains why I was not in pain.
âWe are at the Shadowfang Pack, Astrid. They decided to help us,â Drystan told me with a smile, which only confused me.
The Shadowfang Pack? Why would they help us? I turned to look at Nova, and we locked our gazes on each other. Sheâs the only one who knows that Iâve been planning to go here to ask for my cure.
âIt turns out that Drystan and the Alpha of the Shadowfang Pack were high school friends. He never mentioned anything to me about it,â Nova replied, defending herself.
Hearing her answer surprised me and made me curious, but there was one question that I badly wanted to know.â
âHow about my baby? Is my child alright?â I asked them with fear growing inside my chest.
I clutched my bedsheets tightly, hoping to receive good news.
Drystan froze upon hearing my question. He just openly stared at me without saying anything.
âNova, what happened to my son? Is he alright?â My lips quivered as I asked her, even though I hadnât heard an answer from her yet.
Novaâs gaze fell, a heavy sorrow etching across her features. âAstrid, Iâ¦â She paused, jaw tightening as she struggled to find the words. âIâm so sorry. It was too late. The baby⦠the baby did not survive.
My breath got caught in my throat, a strangled sound of anguish escaping my lips.
âNâno,â I whispered as tears streamed down my face.
âAstrid, easy! You just woke up,â Drystan tried to stop me when I tried to push myself up, but I pushed his hands away, not wanting to be helped up.
âMâmy baby,â I cried as I clenched my blanket close to my heart. My heart is in so much pain that I want to rip it out.
While I was pregnant, there were so many things that I wanted to do with my child. I couldnât wait to have him, but before I could even touch him before I could even hear his first cry, I already lost him.
âMy son, my poor son,â Tears rolled silently down my cheeks, grieving for my unborn child that I lost.
âIâm sorry,â Drystan whispered beside me with his face downcast. His jaw is tight and hard. Seeing me hurting like this also hurts him even more.
I took in short breaths as I lowered my hands. âGiselle, where is she? What happened to her?â I asked Drystan with my eyes wide and moist with tears.
âShe is the person behind all this. She tried to kill me! She killed my child. Tell me, where is she?!â I demanded angrily.
I will never let that woman get away unscathed. She must pay for everything that she had done to me.
Drystanâs eyes widened when he heard my words.
âI was about to go back to the venue when I was kidnapped after I met with Giselle. She did it to silence me,â I clenched my fist as I spoke.
Iâm not going to let my child die in vain. Iâm going to make sure that she would suffer ten times worse for killing my child.
âWho is Giselle?â Someone spoke from behind us.
Our eyes darted from where the voice came from, and there I saw a man that Iâd never met before.
