Winger shook his head and warmly brought the girl in his arms closer for protection: âPrincess, Iâm sorry but Iâm afraid it wonât be easy for us to seek the king now...â
Di Ling Yanâs eyes dimmed somewhat. She wanted to head to her fatherâs side, but she also knows the act of dragging someone else into trouble was a wrong thing to do.
âLet me down Uncle Winger. Itâs okay, you donât have to look down at me like that, Iâm actually very tough and can take care of myself.â
The milky voice and strong determination sent the bird man trembling inside because he felt ashamed for being a coward. A full-grown adult couldnât even compare to a two yearâs old courage, what more does he need to say?
âPrincess, I actually donât feel hurt at all from the lightning, itâs no different from an itch. Here, Iâll take you to the king!â
Even if that pain stung him deep into the bone, Winger wonât allow the baby to go off on her own. Itâs his duty right now to protect her and his wish.
âReally?â A puzzled expression came off of Di Ling Yan when looking up, âIâve seen Mother take hits from a lightning. It hurts alot....â
âDonât worry Princess, that is not a thunderbolt so it doesnât hurt. Would I lie to you? Look at my face, does it look like someone thatâs hurt?â
Though palish in color, Wingerâs expression remains relaxed on the surface and even showed a slight smile to emphasize his point.
âOkay Uncle Winger, I believe you. But first let me down, I can walk on my own.â
âNo Princess, we have to go to the king faster so let me carry you.â He tries to persuade her by speaking softly.
Nodding over the suggestion since its reasonable, Di Ling Yan didnât object: âAlright, we will go find Father. I donât want anything to happen to him....â
âOkay, letâs go.â
With the nod given, Winger began to move with the girl firmly protected in his arms. Heâs making sure his entire body was acting as a shield when the lightning bolts come down again, otherwise it would surely hit the princess if heâs not careful.
Very soon, the bird man could see the tightly closed gate of the city after enduring several more strikes from above. Heâs spitting blood now from the corner of his mouth, but heâs done and kept the charge in his arms safe.
âUncle Winger, you tricked me, youâre hurt! Let me down, I will go on my own to find Father!â
Boom!
Only a meter away from the exit, Winger finally collapsed under the last blow from the sky.
âAhhh!!â Di Ling Yan cried out in fright: âUncle Winger, how are you? Donât die please, I know Iâm wrong, I shouldnât have asked you to help me find Father. Donât die....â
Seeming to recall something crucial, the girl suddenly picked up a dagger from the ground nearby and cut open her finger, thus allowing the blood to flow into Wingerâs wound.
