The early morning sun filtered through the tall, ancient trees that bordered the packhouse, casting long shadows on the sprawling estate. Olivia stood on the balcony of her room, the cool breeze ruffling her dark auburn hair. Her sharp green eyes scanned the horizon, where the forest seemed endless. To the world, she was the epitome of strength-a true alpha. To her pack, she was their leader, their protector, their guide. But deep inside, a part of her longed for something more.
At 32, Olivia Elwood had everything-respect, power, and a pack that adored her. Yet, the nagging emptiness in her chest reminded her every day of what she didn't have: her mate.
"Olivia, are you up?"
Her mother's gentle voice broke her reverie. Turning, Olivia smiled as she saw her mom, Sylvia, walk in carrying a tray with tea and breakfast. Sylvia was a petite woman with kind blue eyes and streaks of silver in her once-blonde hair. She exuded warmth, the kind of warmth that could soothe even the most troubled soul.
"Good morning, Mom." Olivia walked over and kissed her on the cheek.
"Good morning, darling. You didn't come down for breakfast, so I thought I'd bring it to you." Sylvia placed the tray on the small table near the window. "You've been so busy lately. Are you taking care of yourself?"
Olivia chuckled softly. "I'm fine, Mom. Just the usual alpha duties."
Her father, Gregory, entered the room moments later, his broad shoulders and graying beard giving him the appearance of a retired warrior-which he was. "Sylvia, you're spoiling her again," he teased, though his tone held nothing but affection.
"Someone has to," Sylvia shot back playfully. "She works too hard."
Gregory turned to Olivia, his expression softening. "Your mom's right. You've been running yourself ragged lately. We're worried about you, Liv."
Olivia sighed, taking a seat at the table. "I'm fine, Dad. Really. It's just...everything. Keeping the pack strong, maintaining alliances, training the younger wolves-it never ends."
"And?" Sylvia probed gently, sitting across from her.
Olivia hesitated before admitting, "And everyone keeps asking me when I'll find my mate. I can feel their concern, their judgment. I've tried, but..." She trailed off, staring into her tea.
Gregory placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "It'll happen when it's meant to. Don't let anyone, not even us, pressure you into thinking you're incomplete. You're already an incredible alpha."
Sylvia nodded. "But we're your parents, Olivia. We can't help but worry. We just want you to be happy."
Before Olivia could respond, a knock at the door interrupted them.
"Come in," she called.
The door opened to reveal Ethan, her beta and best friend. Tall and broad with an easy grin, Ethan had been by Olivia's side since they were pups. "Sorry to interrupt, Alpha. Morning, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood," he greeted respectfully before turning to Olivia. "We've got a situation down by the training grounds."
Olivia stood immediately, her alpha instincts kicking in. "What kind of situation?"
Ethan's grin faded. "It's Marcus and Jason. They're at it again."
Olivia groaned. Marcus and Jason were two of her more hot-headed pack members, constantly butting heads over territory disputes and petty grievances. "I swear, those two are going to be the death of me. Let's go."
She turned to her parents. "We'll talk later, okay?"
Sylvia kissed her cheek. "Go do what you do best, darling."

At the Training Grounds
By the time Olivia and Ethan arrived, Marcus and Jason were circling each other, their growls low and menacing. A small crowd of pack members had gathered, their expressions ranging from amused to concerned.
"Enough!" Olivia's voice cut through the air like a whip. The two men immediately froze, their gazes snapping to their alpha.
She stepped forward, her presence commanding. "What's going on here?"
Marcus, a stocky man with a fiery temper, pointed at Jason. "He accused me of stealing his share of the hunt!"
Jason, leaner but equally hot-headed, growled. "Because you did! I saw you take the bigger share!"
Olivia pinched the bridge of her nose. "You're grown men, and you're fighting over meat? We're werewolves. There's enough to go around."
Ethan snickered behind her, earning a sharp look. "Not helping, Ethan."
Olivia turned back to the two men. "Here's what's going to happen. You're both going to run ten miles through the forest together. No shifting. By the time you're done, you'll either have worked out your differences or be too tired to care. Understood?"
Marcus and Jason exchanged sheepish looks before nodding. "Yes, Alpha," they muttered in unison.
As they jogged off, Olivia turned to the crowd. "Show's over. Get back to work."
The pack members dispersed, leaving Olivia and Ethan standing by the training ring.
"You're too soft on them," Ethan teased, leaning against the fence.
Olivia shot him a look. "And you're too amused by this."
Ethan grinned. "That's what I'm here for, Liv. Comic relief."
She rolled her eyes but couldn't suppress a smile. "Come on. We've got a meeting with the council in an hour."

Later That Evening
After a long day of mediating disputes, overseeing training, and finalizing plans for an upcoming alliance meeting, Olivia finally returned to the packhouse. Her parents were waiting in the living room, joined by a few of her closest friends and their parents.
Mira, a bubbly healer with a knack for putting everyone at ease, was the first to speak. "Liv, we've been talking."
Olivia raised an eyebrow. "That sounds ominous."
Mira's mother, a sweet yet outspoken woman, chimed in. "We're all worried about you, dear. You've done so much for this pack, but you deserve happiness too."
Olivia sighed, sinking into a chair. "Let me guess. This is about my mate again?"
Ethan smirked from his spot by the fireplace. "They've been plotting this intervention all day."
Sylvia shot him a look. "Hush, Ethan. This is serious."
Olivia held up a hand. "I appreciate everyone's concern, but I'm not going to magically find my mate just because we talk about it."
Mira leaned forward, her expression earnest. "No one's saying you have to rush, Liv. But maybe...don't close yourself off to the possibility."
Her father's deep voice rumbled softly. "Sometimes, fate works in mysterious ways, Olivia. Just keep your heart open."
Olivia looked around at the faces of her family and friends, her heart swelling with gratitude despite her frustration. "I'll try. That's all I can promise."
---
As the evening wound down and everyone headed to bed, Olivia found herself standing on the balcony once more, staring at the stars. Somewhere out there, her mate was waiting. She just had to hope that fate would bring them together when the time was right.
For now, she would continue to lead her pack with strength and compassion, knowing that her family and friends would always have her back.
