âLook at you laughing so happily. Jaena, look whoâs here?â
Edmund suddenly whipped out a colorful toy from behind him and started to wave at the child.
Little Jaena was still hopping around in her baby walker. She turned around as she heard her name
being called out by a familiar voice.
âWahh!â the toddler made an excited noise.
She instantly recognized this face and quickly let out an excited wail before paddling her little legs
toward Edmund.
Edmund returned a bright smile at the child as he crouched down next to her.
After playing with Jaena for a while, Edmund planned to take her upstairs to her mother.
Just then, Sasha, who had been keeping busy in the garden, walked in on them.
âHi Mr. Cooper. Itâs very early of you.â
She was a little startled by the manâs unannounced visit to Oceanic Estate at this time of the day. Her
beautiful brows furrowed slightly.
Edmundâs body stiffened instantly in Sashaâs presence.
âOh, about that. Devin said that he was going to fetch Old Mr. Jadeson today. So I just came over to
see if you guys needed a hand?â
âOh, I see. I think weâre good here. Heâs already off to the military base. Um, why are you holding the
baby? This is Oliviaâs job. Olivia?â Sasha turned around and called out loudly.
Before Edmund had a chance to explain the situation, Olivia was already rushing over to their side.
âIs something the matter, Mrs. Jadeson?â
âWhere have you been? And why did you leave Jaena with Mr. Cooper? Your priority should be looking
after her. Other chores can wait. How could you expect Mr. Cooper to care for a little toddler all by
himself?â Sasha reprimanded Olivia while removing Jaena from Edmundâs arm.
Olivia apologized and hurried away with Jaena, leaving Edmund in an awkward situation. He was at a
loss of what to do next.
âWell, I probably shouldâ¦â
âIâm sorry, Mr. Cooper. Everyone seems to be quite occupied this morning. Thatâs why they have
overlooked Jaena. Iâm also in the middle of tidying up Grandpaâs room. Since youâre here, would you
like to give me a hand?â
âOh, Iâm sorry. Iâve actually got to go soon,â the man instantly rejected the offer.
Who am I kidding with? Sheâs Sebastianâs wife. And Sebastian is one of the most fearsome men in the
Jadeson family. No one in their right mind would dare to work alongside her.
Edmund left the Oceanic Estate not long after.
Right after he left, Sasha called upon all the housemaids and bodyguards in the estate.
âListen up. From now onward, unless Mr. Jadeson and I are around, no one is to let Mr. Cooper into
this estate. Understand?â
âYes, Madam!â
After making sure her command was understood by everyone, Sasha got back to her work.
Sebastian arrived at the Aquene Temple.
It had been a while since Sebastianâs last visit to this temple. The minor refurbishment did not alter the
peacefulness of this place in the middle of a forest. As it was summer season, different shades of
green started to emerge on the aged maple tree next to the temple.
Sebastian sat cross-legged in the pavilion with Shin.
But instead of playing chess like last time, the two were slowly sipping on tea.
âGrandpa is coming back soon. Arenât you going to pay him a visit?â
âI donât think so. Iâm a monk. I shouldnât continue to entangle myself with all sorts of relationships in
your world,â the old monk said peacefully.
Sebastian snickered. âI was told that you didnât become a monk out of your own will. If thatâs really the
case, who could blame you if you decide to return to a secular life now?â
Shin was at a loss of words all of a sudden.
Whatâs with this sudden outburst? This kid is here to stir me up.
Setting down his teacup, the old monk finally broke the silence. âSo, tell me. Are you here to ask about
Eddie Limmer?â
Shin had seen through his sonâs intention. After all, he was an intelligent person. He did not expect any
less from his son.
Instead of answering Shinâs question, Sebastian just stared straight at him. Shin got his answer through
Sebastianâs piercing eyes.
The old monk let out a long sigh and slowly spoke, âFine. Iâll tell you what I know. But donât be too
hopeful. Eddie was a very cautious man, and he didnât fully trust me with all the information all these
years.â
âWhy is that?â Sebastianâs tense expression finally eased up slightly.
Shin smiled ruefully. âMaybe because he thought I was somewhat of a loose cannon. Thatâs why he
wouldnât trust me with the top secrets.â
âSo what do you know?â Sebastian chose to skip over the part where Shin was apparently out of
control. He would have been in his early thirties at that time. For someone who was so high up the
military leadership ladder, I wonder what was done to him if he was deemed not compliant.
