“Thank you.” Mariela rubbed her temples wearily. How is Angel? Did she not get scared yesterday?”

Haleigh shook her head and said, “I didn’t tell Angel that your dad had an accident at the end of the birthday party. I told Angel that he had to leave early because of something.”

“I asked Lenny to choose a few skilled bodyguards to protect you and Angel.”

“Okay.”

The next afternoon, Lennon finally finished his busy schedule and went to the hospital.

Haleigh sat by the bedside, feeding Deandre his medicine. Mariela sat on the couch, with a small round table in front of her. She placed her notebook and briefcase on it. She worked while keeping Deandre company.

Lennon pushed the door open, and his assistant Thomas placed the bags of nutrition supplements and a fruit basket on the table beside. Lennon said, “I’m sorry. After the incident, I was in a hurry to find the culprit and didn’t come to see you right away.”

Deandre mumbled in response.

Mariela lifted her head and asked, “Did you find who did it?”

“Yes.”

Mariela’s eyes lit up with flames, “Where is the killer?”

“I’ve handed him to the police, but Nikolas covered it up very well. Currently, they can only keep the killer in custody and there is no way to arrest Nikolas temporarily.”

Mariela’s eyes darkened, “He wouldn’t be so foolish as to involve himself.”

Lennon turned his head and looked at Deandre lying on the hospital bed. He said apologetically, “I’m sorry for involving you in this matter. It all -started because of me.”

Deandre looked pale and weak.

“Lenny, Marie has told me everything. With all your power and influence, can’t you do something about Nikolas? Can’t you stop him from hurting people?”

“Sorry, at the moment I can only speculate that he had someone do it, but there is no evidence. The police cannot assist us.”

“Lenny, sometimes you don’t necessarily have to stick to the decent way. He played dirty tricks and used sinister means. You can only outsmart him to take him down. After all, you’re not a police officer, so why do you insist on finding evidence?”

Lennon lowered his eyes.

He understood.
