Chapter 22: Chapter 21 | Choices

Yukashi | VK Fanfic | ✓Words: 13199

The Moon Dormitory appears eerie and unwelcoming; his ears doesn't catch a single sound coming from inside. All except from one belonging to none other than Kaname Kuran.

Yukashi leaves his luggage at the entrance, closing the door behind him then proceeds to climb the stairs. Blue eyes flicker around—quizzical of the lack of people in the dorm; sensing the Pureblood in his office, Yukashi arrives cautiously. "Come in, Yukashi." Kaname beckons him, assuring Yukashi it is safe.

The platinum blonde hair vampire enters the office, door clicking as it locks behind him and his feet drags him in front of the brunette's desk. This time he wears a long-sleeved, black shirt with an opening at the collarbone continuing down to his chest. Red-brown eyes fixate on Yukashi's movements, expression stoic and posture calm.

"Nearly all the students have left the Academy. The others are canvassing the area to ensure nothing happens to the remaining students."

Yukashi sits on the chair present in front of the desk; a soft sigh slips past his lips as he rakes his fingers through his hair. "How are we certain this threat isn't a ruse?" Yukashi inquires, a placid expression across his face. An expression Kaname hasn't seen since Yukashi had step foot in the school.

Kaname stares, "We aren't. However, we could not take the risk of putting the student's lives in danger. Especially when you and I are fully aware of Hanadagi's capabilities." His response causes Yukashi to stiffen slightly, images of Hanadagi's previous actions toward humans were atrocious.

Hanadagi has no regard for human life whatsoever. If humans are what will help him achieve his goal, he will use them. Most of the time it involved the humans dying for his resolve. If the students were not evacuated it would have resulted in the greatest massacre since the war thousands of years ago.

What Hanadagi despises more than anything are humans turned into vampires. Vampires like Zero. "What of Sara Shirabuki's whereabouts?" Yukashi asks, clenching his jaw firmly with blue eyes gleaming in murderous intent.

From the lack of response for the first several seconds Yukashi already anticipates the answer, "She vanished," Kaname straightens, moving toward Yukashi slightly.

Yukashi narrows his eyes from the change of atmosphere, a tingling sensation rushes over his skin. "Yukashi..." Kaname drifts off, red-brown eyes noting the change in Yukashi as one he is very familiar with.

"I know, brother. From the vision I saw before I came here, I think it is about time," Yukashi swallows harshly retaining a composed exterior, "Zero needs to know the truth."

"What else did you see?"

"My son was taken and currently being held against his will with Hanadagi."

Yukashi responds in a monotonous tone; rage and trepidation coiling inside him bringing an overwhelming storm of emotions. His own son was taken from the one place he should be safe in, unfortunately, by the time Yukashi had seen the vision it had already happened and it would have been fruitless to return to his mansion without a clue of where to search.

Taji is strong, Yukashi knows that much.

Kaname has a cold glint in his eyes, his flawless face grows hard at the news of his nephew being used as a means for Hanadagi to achieve his goal. It doesn't surprise them in the least considering Hanadagi's mercilessness show no regard toward age, gender, or race. "Then I suppose attacking the Academy could be the next step to their plan." The brunette declares.

Normally, Yukashi would have an answer to all of Kaname's assumptions or inquiries except there is a part of Yukashi that hesitates to use his power. A power that had turned Yukashi as cold and merciless as Hanadagi; seeing the future brought a great burden for him. Having to make decisions according to how it will benefit him, in the end, it harms many people whether or not it was his intention.

There are so many decisions Yukashi had made, all of which he regrets none. Although he wished he could have done something different, that's not how it works. The future constantly changes, depending on who influences the change big or small can cause a drastic shift. If Yukashi dives into his power once more, the person Zero knows now will no longer be the same.

And this power is the only option he has to save Taji, to protect those he cares for. "For now, I believe it is wise to hold a meeting with the Aristocrats. They are very loyal to you."

"They can also be very loyal to you." he encourages.

Yukashi shakes his head rising from the seat, "I am not the one leading them, Kaname. You are and I have always acknowledged your aptitude. Me, on the other hand, despite my power I cannot lead an entire race the way you do." His sincere words have Kaname realize something.

Yukashi doesn't plan on staying by his side as he once did before. "You're wrong, you can. In the war, you led an army of three dozen men and brought them to victory in spite of the losses. They have already invested their trust in you, they depend on you." Kaname stands, his soft voice edging with an unknown emotion.

The blonde hair vampire gazes at the taller male, mustering a smile Kaname has grown up to see all of the years of his life, "They see me as an ally, not a friend. They only depend on me because you depend on me, Kaname. I don't belong amongst your friends-"

Kaname interrupts with a frown, "You do belong here. If you stop pushing them away and show trust as they do for you, you'd see what I see."

He is left speechless, fingers curling into tight fists as memories flood his mind. He had lost so many great friends in the war. Even after his slumber, he heard of Progenitors slipping into a long slumber or have become deceased over the years. Those Yukashi felt he trusted were gone—all except for Kaname.

In the face of all this, Yukashi felt the world had left him behind. He had tried to catch up, find happiness without the need of his power, without having to see what will be ahead of him and simply live in the world where war was no longer devastating the world.

Then, he was betrayed by a woman he loved. She gave him a child he loves with all his heart and he had brutally murdered her after her infidelity, leaving his son without a mother. All because he chose a path fate had presented him. Either live with the fact she had cheated, giving his son the opportunity to grow up with a mother and face an obstacle threatening to take away his happiness.

Or dispose of her then and there, risk his son resenting him if he were to find out the truth, yet meet a person. A person he had waited thousands of years to meet since birth and find that speck of happiness again. Except there was a shadow foreboding the unavoidable problem.

How can he trust anyone in this time? His trust in Zero isn't truthful when Yukashi is keeping so much from him already. "We will speak tomorrow night." The blonde Pureblood turns, strolling to the large doors of Kaname's office until the brunette stops him. "Brother, if you trust me as much as I believe you do, then confide in my words when I say you can trust them."

He only halts for a few moments, lips twitching; at first, he wanted to say something in response but when he finds himself unable to gather an answer he opts to leave. Kaname will always be the best of the two, viewing the world in a completely different mindset.

Something expected from a Pureblood who doesn't wield the power Yukashi has.

Catching the sound of the door clicking shut, the blonde proceeds down the corridors—nostrils inhaling the scent of other vampires now residing in the mansion. He discerns a few of the presence nearing the entrance of the Dorm to be an Aristocrat.

He had hoped he would slip out to see Zero without being seen. Heaving a gentle sigh, his hand lands on the railing feet gracely descending the staircase while maintaining a placid exterior.

Immediately he feels the attention fall on him and one in particular calls out to Yukashi, "You're back!"

Aido exclaims rather exuberantly, Kain, Ruka, Rima, and Ichijo all stand near the entrance appearing rather exhausted and disgruntled. Soft blue eyes land on Ichijo specifically recalling Kaname informing Yukashi how Ichijo is more of a confidant than simply the title of 'Vice President'.

"Yes, I am." Yukashi's tone is absentminded. Ichijo's forest green eyes connect with Yukashi's, ash blonde hair maintained in an unkempt condition and his skin is fair perhaps a little more tan than the other vampires. In addition to being one of the few male vampires to be graced with a tall height.

Aido throws himself at Yukashi, hugging the shorter male taking him completely by surprise, "Welcome back, Yukashi." Kain inclines his head, Ruka repeats the same head movement managing to offer Yukashi a small smile. Rima gazes at Yukashi blankly, to which Yukashi is certain is a result of what he had done to her older sister—Chiaki.

Rima Toya shares a striking resemblance to her with her orange hair that was once that of a flame turned into tamed shades of sunset. Her sky blue eyes were once bright and free now have grown to be hooded with wisdom, clouded at times. Rima had definitely grown to be beautiful.

Senri Shiki is beside her, one of the youngest Aristocrats and of course, the shortest amongst the male vampires. He possesses immense beauty from his mahogany hair to his lightly tinted blue eyes and pale skin; it baffles Yukashi at times to see a young male holding such strong physical attributes regardless of it being common amongst vampires.

Senri remains silent, his eyes flicking away from Yukashi as if he senses Rima's distaste towards him. "Is everything okay at home?" Ichijo asks in a concerned tone, Yukashi's chest grows tight, wondering how Kaname has surrounded himself with such friends.

Kaname was raised with them. Unlike Yukashi who had to learn of this world, try to connect with the people around him and perhaps if Yukashi had been in the same predicament as Kaname, things would have been different. Except, it would mean he would have never been gifted with a son.

"Unfortunately, no. I have to go, there will be an important meeting tomorrow night. Do not miss it." Yukashi informs.

His hands attempt to push the blonde male slightly taller than Yukashi, yet he doesn't budge from the position resulting in Yukashi narrowing his eyes at Aido. "Is Kaname in his study?" Kain inquires.

"Yes."

It is all they need to leave; Yukashi keeps a close attention to the Aristocrats ascending the stairs and disappearing to the direction of Kaname's study. A moment later, Aido releases Yukashi with a solemn expression on his face showing Yukashi exactly the kind of person Aido truly is—or at least one side of him. "I had to dig real deep to find as much as I could about you and you have quite the history with Kaname." The blonde Aristocrat muses.

There is no surprise lacing on Yukashi's features, "I'm aware," He says, images of Aido's future enters his mind, "You are the most loyal to Kaname than anyone I have ever met in my lifetime. So I will tell you this, the reason why I kept my true identity a secret is because Kaname and I are bound. If I die, he dies, if he dies, then I die."

Aido's eyes widen in disbelief, "What? Why would you keep something so devastating a secret?"

"Because the only way Kaname can ever die is if I am killed. If I were to take my own life, Kaname would live." Yukashi steps away from the Aristocrat, approaching the large doors that will lead him outside.

A hand grasps his arms resulting in the platinum blonde Pureblood to peer over his shoulder, cocking an eyebrow at the terrified expression on Aido's face. "You aren't considering taking your own life, are you?" His actions are enough to shift his own future. Epiphany dawns on the Progenitor, Aido is truly loyal.

He means no harm, all he wants to do is protect those he loves. It is understandable why the vampire was so hostile toward Yukashi except he seemed to have understood that Yukashi's close bond with Kaname is what prompted Aido to believe Yukashi wouldn't do anything to hurt Kaname.

Removing the hand from his arm, Yukashi turns around properly and places his hand on Aido's shoulder. A smile etches on his lips serving to soften Aido, "So this is what Kaname meant," Yukashi murmurs, "Aido, can I trust you to keep this a secret for a little while?"

Aido furrows his brows in bemusement, "Why? What are you going to do?"

Squeezing his shoulder, the blonde vampire purses his lips lightly inclining his head. "What I should have done a very long time ago." It is a mere whisper, distancing himself from Aido aware the Aristocrat had heard him loud and clear.

Tonight. Zero has to know tonight or else Yukashi will no longer have the courage to tell his soulmate the truth.
