Chapter 974
All of a sudden, she felt like sheâd fallen into a giant ice hole, struggling hard to crawl out. But the more she struggled, the faster she sank, the icy water already consuming her body. She fought, but the freezing water got deeper and deeper, threatening to swallow her whole.
Just as things were getting dire, Corneliaâs gentle voice echoed in her ears, âLeonardo, Tahlia, could you two give me a hand with peeling some garlic?â
The familiar and soothing voice pulled Tahlia back from the icy abyss, the sunlight slowly hitting her again, warming her up
Corneliaâs words instantly diverted Leonardoâs attention, âMy hands are way too valuable for peeling garlic.â
Ignoring him, Cornelia placed the bowl of garlic on the table, âEveryoneâs busy here, you canât just sit around doing nothing. Youâre on garlic dutyâ
Then, Cornelia turned to Tahlia and whispered, âTahlia, do you know how to peel garlic? If not, Iâll show you.â
Leonardo was speechless. Why was it his job to peel garlic? Why did Tahlia get such gentle treatment? And why did everyone treat him differently?
He was the one who worked the hardest today, yet he was the one getting picked on. Poor him!
Cornelia picked up a clove of garlic and began to instruct step by step, âThese are easy to peel, just remove all the skin.
Tahlia looked into Corneliaâs eyes, listened to her gentle voice, and a warm current flooded into her heart, âNelly.â
âWhat?â Cornelia looked at her, only to find her eyes welling up, âTahlia, whatâs wrong? Are you feeling unwell? Tell me.â
Tahlia shook her head, trying hard to push back the tears on the verge of falling. âIâm fine. Itâs just that youâre so nice to me. It warms my heart!
Cornelia rubbed her head. âYouâre my sister, the only person Iâm bloodârelated to in this world. Of course, Iâll treat you well. You donât have to peel the garlic anymore, Marcus can handle it.â
Leonardo said, âCornelia, are you seriously picking on me?â
From the kitchen, Marcus chimed in, âYeah, she is. So what?â
Leonardo said, âMarcus, you canât play favorites.â
Marcus said, âJust peel the garlic.
Leonardo put on a pitiful face, âYou guys are so mean, ganging up on me.â
Cornelia asked, âWhoâs picking on you?â
Leonardo said, âTahlia, tell them, is she picking on me?â
Tahlia said, âSheâs so nice, how could she be picking on you?â
Leonardo said, âYou guys are bullying me.â
Marcus rolled up his sleeves, ready to help out in the kitchen, but Cornelia immediately stopped him, âYou go do your work in the study. You donât need to worry about the kitchen.â
