Chapter 966
After being set free, Clair took a few deep breaths. Once sheâd somewhat collected herself, she looked at Granger with a mournful gaze, âGranger, Iâve been with you for over twenty years, gave you my youth and my body, and took care of you with all my heart. Have I ever thought of betraying you during these years?â
Granger took a moment to ponder. This woman loved money. She married him for money, and she pleased him for money. Because her goal was so clear, sheâd always been by his side all these years, never betraying him.
âNow when shit hits the fan, you donât even ask me, you just assume I leaked the information. Do you think Iâm stupid?â Clair blinked, a couple of tears trickling down, âI donât even know what happened. How can you accuse meâ¦â
She sobbed pitifully, causing Granger to feel a pang of guilt. He reached out to pull her into his arms, âIâm sorry.â
Clair nestled in his arms, the smell of him making her nauseous, but she had to bear it, âSo what the heck happened?â
Granger explained, âMarcus sent Leonardo to me today, saying that Natalia isnât the Reese child, and he wanted to arrange a new identity for her. My staff told me theyâve already done it, even changing her name to Tahlia. I only found out today that Marcusâ assistant is from Rosenberg, the daughter of the Stewart family. And if she wasnât so lucky, sheâd be dead by now.â
Clair asked, âDo you know why Marcus always protects his assistant?â
Granger replied, âThat woman is indeed beautiful, even more so than you when you were young. After all, Marcus is a man, and with that woman in front of him every day, how could he not be moved?â
Clair revealed, âI just found out that Marcusâ wife is Cornelia. Her grandmother just passed away, and Marcus went to Rosenberg with her.â
Granger raised his voice, âWhat? What did you just say?â
Clair repeated, âI said the wife of Marcus weâve been looking for has been right under our noses all along.â
Granger immediately whipped out his phone to call Cameron, âYouâve always said you were close to Marcus, so why didnât you know his wife has been right here? What did I do wrong to end up with such a useless son like you!â
Without Natalia, Cameron vented all his anger on the house servants. Now he was getting a call from Granger. As usual, when Granger called him, it was an endless stream of scolding. He had to deal with the troubles of the Reese Group during the day, and be chewed out by his father at night.
The more Cameron thought about it, the angrier he got, so he did something heâd never dared to do before, âYes, Iâm useless. Marcus is useful, but would you want a son like him? Can you afford it? If you were his father, youâd probably be in jail by now, not here yelling at me.â
âWhat did you say?â Grangerâs voice suddenly turned cold, âCameron, do you know who youâre talking to?â
Cameron just hung up the phone.
Infuriated, Granger tried calling him back, but all he heard was the automated voice message that the phone was switched off, âHe dared to defy me. Has he forgotten who raised him?â
âServes him right!â Clair felt a sense of satisfaction, but she still had to comfort him on the surface, âDonât get mad. Itâll hurt your health. Heâs probably just stressed out because of the current situation. Once the crisis at the Reese Group is over and everyone gets a chance to rest, things will get better.â
