Chapter 901
Granny Luisa, tears streaming down her face, was a sight that broke Corneliaâs heart âWhatâs wrong? Why do you keep saying sorry?â
Granny Luisa confessed, âActually, weâve been keeping something from you. Your grannyâs death wasnât due to her illness suddenly getting worse, but to poisoning.â The news hit Cornelia like a punch in the gut. She could barely believe what she was hearing as shock and pain swept over her. As her mind went into a whirl, Granny Luisa continued, âJohn, my driver, had spiked our drinking water with a drug. This drug is harmless to most people but, if taken with the medication for kidney disease, it can be fatal.â
Granny Luisa paused, then said, âNelly, I didnât mean to hide the truth from you. I was just scared scared that you might leave Marc if you found out.â

The fact that Granny Rebeccaâs death was no accident was a blow that Cornelia hadnât seen coming. Guilt and a whirlwind of emotions threatened to overwhelm Cornelia, but she fought to stay calm. She knew she couldnât blame Granny Luisa or Marcus for this; she had to find who was really responsible.
âItâs not your fault, and itâs not Marcâs either. All you need to do is hand John over to the police and let the law deal with him.â
Granny Luisa responded, âYou think Iâd cover for John? When we found out it was him, Marc handed him and all the evidence over to the police.â
âThanks,â Cornelia sighed in relief. She had thought Granny Luisa might ask for leniency for John. âYou should rest now. Iâm going to step out for a bit.â
Granny Luisa tried to say something but then stopped. Some things were better left for her and Marcus to discuss.
When Cornelia left Granny Luisaâs room, Marcus was still waiting outside.
The walls were thin and Marcus must have heard her conversation with Granny Luisa. âDid you know that my grannyâs death wasnât an accident?â
Marcus nodded, âCorneliaâ¦â
âCome with me to my room. Cornelia didnât want to worry Granny Luisa, so she brought Marcus to her room. Once the door was closed, she asked him, âWhy didnât you tell me?â
Marcus started, âI was worriedâ¦â
âWorried about what? That I would blame you?â Comelia cut him off.
Marcus nodded.
Cornelia was pissed, âMarcus, do you think I canât tell right from wrong? Iâm her only family, donât I deserve to know the truth?â
âMarcus, didnât we promise to always be honest with each other? I tell you everything, but what about you?â
âWhy didnât you tell me about this? I only found out now that my granny was murdered. How am I supposed to face her now?â
Marcus tried to calm the upset Cornelia, âCornelia, please, calm down! Let me explain!â
