Chapter 788
Rosie said, âI gotta tell ya, you and President Hartley are a perfect matchâ
Cornelia said, Thanks!â
Hannah said, âEnough of that, let Cornelia tell us how she and her hubby got togetherâ
Everyone was eager to know, and Cornelia didnât hold back, âMy husband and I were set up by our grannies. We got married the first time we met.â
Rosie said. âYouâre a real daredevil, marrying a guy youâve just met.â
Hannah said, âRosie, hush. Let Cornelia keep goingâ
âAlright, Iâll zip it.â Rosie promptly shut her mouth.
Cornelia continued, âAfter we got the marriage certificate, he handed me a bank card, said he had stuff to do, and left. He didnât contact me after that, and I didnât really care. I just went on with my work, even forgot what he looked like. So, a year later, when I saw him at the company, he seemed familiar, but I couldnât place him. It wasnât until the other day when I was packing to move and found our longâlost marriage certificate that I realized Marcus was my hubby who disappeared right after the weddingâ
It was mindâboggling, but it really happened.
Hannah poked Corneliaâs forehead, âYou canât remember his face, his name, but you remember youâre married?â
Cornelia said, âHe registered under the name Jeremy, not Marcus.â
Hannah and Rosie asked in unison, âDid he use a different name because he was afraid youâd be after his money?â
Cornelia said, âNo, heâs not like that. Because of some special reasons, heâs been using two identities. He didnât mean to fool me. He wanted to see me as soon as he returned home, but our paths just didnât cross.â
Hannah said, âAlways defending him.â
Cornelia smiled and said, âHeâs my husband, what can I do?â
Hannah said, âYour husband is a good man, he respects your decisions in all things. You should stand up for him. Cornelia, youâre gonna be very happy.â
Cornelia asked, âIsnât mutual respect in a marriage normal?â
Hannah said, âNot every man knows respect. Youâve found such a good man. Cherish him.â
Rosie nodded furiously, âI second that, I totally agree with Hannah.â
Cornelia asked, âDidnât Lucas respect you?â
â
âRespect? If he knew how to spell that word, I wouldnât be Rosie.â When it came to respect, Rosie felt she had a say, âDo you guys think Lucas treats me
well?â
Hannah nodded.
Cornelia nodded too, âFrom what weâve seen, yes.â
Rosie said, âSee, youâve been fooled by his act.â
If it came to Lucas, Rosie could talk for days, ââHe seems gentle, nice to me, but heâs actually very controlling. He treats me like his daughter. He dictates what I can and canât eat. I can only things he deems nutritious. I only can do what he thinks is right. I complained to my parents, saying Lucas was too controlling. But they didnât take side with me, instead they defended him. They said he was doing it for my good, that if it were someone else, they wouldnât bother.â
