Chapter 776
He held his phone up to Granny Luisa, âGranny, Is this the Clair you know?â
Granny Rebecca took the phone and stared at the photo for a while, finally saying with relief. Thankfully, itâs not the Clair I know.âthank godâ
âWho is the Clair you know?â Marcus already had an answer in his mind, but he wanted to hear it from the old lady herself.
âAn old friend.â Granny Rebecca didnât want to talk about Clair any further and quickly steered the conversation back to the main topic, âMarc, I asked Nelly to leave because I need to talk to you about something personal, something Nelly shouldnât know about.â
âGo ahead,â Marcus said.
Granny Rebecca spoke, âDoctors keep saying Iâm getting better, but I feel like Iâm getting worse. I donât think I have much time left. Nelly was abandoned by her mother when she was young and then lost her father in a car accident. Iâm all she has. If I suddenly leave her, I donât know how sheâll handle it. Promise me youâll take care of her and spend time with her. Just be there for her. Donât let her do anything stupid.â
Marcus assured her. The doctors arenât lying to you. You are getting better. The problem lies with the person who was taking care of you. She messed up your medication.â
He didnât tell the old lady the truth out of concern that it might worry her too much and affect her recovery.
âWrong medication?â Granny Rebecca questioned.
âYes, Iâve kicked her out. Weâll find someone else to take care of you from now on, Marcus continued. âAnd, I promise you, Iâll take care of Nelly no matter what. Sheâs my wife, and itâs my duty to look after her.â
âIs it just because sheâs your wife? Donât you like her even a bit?â the old lady asked.
Marcus was taken aback and then nodded, âLike her? Of course!â
She was such an amazing girl and she was his wife, how could he not like her!
Hearing this, the old lady finally felt relieved. With Marcus by Nellyâs side, she didnât have to worry anymore, âNelly is beautiful and lovely, sheâs perfect in every way. Anyone with the right mind will like her. Make sure you tell her that you like her. Sheâs a bit sensitive, so make sure to reassure her often.â
Marcus listened patiently and nodded, âAlright.â
Granny Rebecca continued, âPlease get her in now. I bet sheâs sulking outside because she canât hear our conversation.â
âIâll get her now.â Marcus went out and found Nelly, her eyes redârimmed. Granny Rebecca was right, she had been crying.
He walked over and hugged her tightly, âGranny will be fine, donât worry too much.â
Nelly wiped her swollen nose, âPromise me, if Granny tells you anything, you have to tell me.â
Marcus patted her head gently and smiled, âGranny thinks sheâs not doing well, so she asked me to take good care of you.â
