Chapter 605
Cameron handed Marcus a drink, âMarc, fancy a drink?â
Before Marcus could respond, Cornelia stepped in front of him, âIâm sorry! Mr. Hartley is under the weather, no drinks for him tonightâ
Cameronâs brow furrowed a hint of annoyance creeping into his eyes. He was having a conversation with Marcus, not her place as an assistant to butt in
But he held his tongue. He knew Marcus had a soft spot for this woman.
Cameron forced a smile. âMs Stewart, thereâs something I want to say but not sure if itâs appropriateâ
Comelia, âIf you think itâs inappropriate, then donât say it.â
Cameron took his time before continuing âI feel I shouldnât say this, but I still feel the need to remind you. Donât you think youâre meddling too much in Marcâs affairs? Whether he drinks or not should not be your concern, it should be his wifeâs. Yet, here you are stepping in
âI donât think sheâs overstepping, why do you have to make a fuss? Marcus shot Cameron an annoyed look, adding, âMy wife doesnât want me drinkingâ
A warm feeling spread through Corneliaâs heart as she looked up at him. Their eyes met.
Cornelia quickly averted her gaze, looking at the ceiling, the floor, anywhere but Marcus
Cameron, a little embarrassed, changed the subject, âMarc, youâre okay with a woman bossing you around? Itâs just a woman, any woman would do, right?â
Any woman would do. That was what Marcus used to think.
But now, he couldnât imagine if the woman he had married wasnât Cornelia.
Marcus, âWho I marry, who I let boss me around, thatâs my business, and itâs none of your concern.â
Seeing this. Clair pushed a stunned Natalia towards Marcus, âMarc, Nataliaâs been talking about you non stop. She says you treat her better than her own brother. Let her take care of you tonightâ¦â
Marcus looked down at her, and gave her a cold glance, âIâm married, I donât need another womanâs companyâ
This statement could be taken as blunt or subtle, depending on the listenerâs interpretation.
Clair, acting nonchalant, continued, âYes, everyone knows youâre married, and we all know how in love you are with your wife Marc, why didnât you bring your wife tonight?â
There had been rumors among the four families that Marcusâ wife had been unfaithful, but he had dismissed it as a misunderstanding and warned everyone against spreading the rumor
Marcus could control what people said, but not what they thought
Clair firmly believed that Marcus hadnât brought his wife for a reason, either they were having problems, or there were other unsavory reasons.
Despite Clairâs attempts at small talk, Marcus had no intention of engaging with her further, and turned to leave.
Cornelia quickly followed him, âPresident Hartleyâ¦â
Marcus turned back, âYes?â
Comelia nervously asked, âWould you consider accepting Natalia?â
Marcusâ expression turned icy, âWhat are you talking about?â
Cornelia hurriedly explained, âNo, not like that. I need to ask Natalia something, but her mother wonât let her speak to me, soâ¦â
Marcus chuckled as if he had heard something amusing, âCornelia, do you realize what youâre asking me to do?â
Cornelia looked at him hopefully. âIs it possible?â
Marcus replied reluctantly, âYou go find her yourself.â
Cornelia asked, âSo, I have your permission to speak to her on your behalf?â
