Jeremy had been AWOL the entire day
Cornelia had a fullâblown panic attack. She paced nervously around her room, determined to track him down no matter what. She tried giving him a ning, but it was like trying to get blood out of a stone, no answer. So, she thought about calling his colleagues. But then, it dawned on her, that she didnât have his colleagues digits.
She didnât know squat about Jeremy. Even after being hitched for two years, she was still in the dark about his jobâ¦.
Feeling like a fish out of water, Comelia thought of Marcus and Briana. These siblings knew Jeremy better than she did and might have contacts she needed After some pondering, she shot a message to Marcus: âHey, President Hartley, sorry to bug you this late. You donât happen to have Jeremyâs work buddies contact, do you?â
After sending the message, she stared at her phone, waiting for a reply. But Marcus was like a ghost, no response.
Feeling a bit stood up, Cornelia decided to bite the bullet and give Marcus a call.
It took forever for him to pick up. As soon as he answered, Cornelia blurted out âPresident Hartley, sorry to be a pain and call you this late. I just wondered if you have Jeremyâs colleaguesâ number?â
But the voice on the other end was Dr. Dawsonâs: âComella, Marcâs swamped, hasnât got time for your call. If thereâs nothing else, Iâm going to hang upâ
Comelia wasnât ready to let this lead go cold: âDr. Dawson, could you maybe ask him he has Jeremyâs colleaguesâ number?â
Dr. Dawson replied: âSorry! Marcâs offâlimits, I canât help youâ And then she hung up
Dr. Dawson was off her game today. Feeling high and dry, Cornelia decided to give Brana a call. No answer the first time, but Briana picked up the second time.
Briana sounded like she just woke up: âCornelia, whatâs up?â
Cornelia said âBriana, sorry to disturb your beauty sleep. Iâve been trying to reach Jeremy all day, and Iâm worried sick. Do you have his colleaguesâ number, maybe! can reach him through them. Or is there any other way to get hold of him?â
Briana suddenly sounded more awake: âCornelia, are you saying you canât reach your hubby?â
She knew Marcus took their marriage seriously, he wouldnât just ignore Comeliaâs messages.
Cornelia nodded hastily: âYeah, Bri, can you help me reach him? As long as I know heâs okay, it doesnât matter if he calls me back.â
Briana said: âCornelia, cool your jets, let me try to reach him first, see what heâs up to
After hanging up, Briana immediately dialed Marcusâs cell, first his personal one, but it was switched off.
Next, she tried his work phone. As soon as she got through and said, âHey bro, she heard Dr. Dawsonâs voice saying, âBri, Mr. Marcus is tied up right now, he might not be able to take your call.â
Briana replied, âDr. Dawson, Corneliaâs looking for my brother, she canât reach him and sheâs freaking out. No matter how busy Marcus is, I hope you can get him to. reply to Cornelia ASAPâ
Dr. Dawson was silent for a few seconds on the other end of the phone, then slowly said. âBri, Marcus might not be able to call Cornelia back right now.â
