Chapter 506
After trudging through a winding path, Cornelia finally spotted the building Right ahead was what seemed like a recreational area, pretty spacious There were a few villas scattered around. The so called clubhouse was probably Zavierâs private estate in Riverton. He never entertained quests there.
A suited man escorted Cornelia to her destination, then vanished like a ghost
Cornelia glanced around. Not a soul in sight. The lighting was dim, making the place feel rather unsettling âMr. Rivera, Iâm here Whereâs Marcus?â
No one responded, but one of the villas had a faint light on Cornelia guessed that Marcus and Zavier were probably there.
As she headed towards the villa, a gloomy voice echoed, âMs Stewart, you finally made it. You sure kept me waitingâ
Following the source of the voice, Cornelia found no one. After her eyes adjusted to the darkness, she spotted Zavier in black leaning against a tree with a nearly finished cigarette in his hands
Cornelia noticed that Zavier had been smoking every time she saw him recently. Perhaps, not being able to torment Skyler, he chose to torment himself instead.
He was polite, and so was Cornelia. âMr. Rivera, whereâs President Hartley?â
Zavier pointed to the house behind him, âHeâs inside waiting for you. You go fetch him.â
âThanks, Mr. Riveraââ Cornelia was still wary of Zavier, so she didnât just barge in. She inspected her surroundings, ensuring there was no danger before stepping inside
But she didnât expect the sight and sounds that greeted her, causing her to blush. She immediately backed out and softly closed the door, âZavier, have you gone nuts? President Hartleyâs wife is here too, and youâre asking me to fetch him.â
Zavier chuckled, âAre you sure thatâs President Hartleyâs wife?â
Cornelia was taken aback, âWhat do you mean?â
Zavier lit another cigarette and took a few drags, Tonight, after Marc dropped you home, he ran into Natalia. Sheâs been infatuated with Marc for years, and she made another move on him tonight. Marc was going to reject her, but he had a few drinks, and well, things happened.â
Zavier was convincing, but Cornelia just couldnât believe it. She had faith that Marcus would never do such a thing, âMr. Rivera, you better not be spewing nonsense. A man of integrity cares about his reputation.â
Zavier stepped closer, seemingly trying to overpower Cornelia with his height, âYou trust him that much?â
Cornelia stood her ground, âIâm his employee, and he pays my salary. Why would I trust you over him?â
Zavier, âThen what did you see just now? What did you hear?â
Cornelia was mortified. âIâ¦â
She gritted her teeth and forced herself to stay calm, âI didnât get a clear look at the two people on the bed, nor did I hear clearly How am I supposed to know that it was Marcus?â
She had switched from calling him âPresident Hartleyâ to âMarcus,â a detail that didnât escape Zavier, âIf youâre not sure, you can always go back in to check.â
âThat wouldnât be appropriate⦠I donât want to intrude,â said Cornelia. Despite this, she was itching to go back in and confirm whether it was Marcus and Natalia in the room. Otherwise, the doubt would nag at her like a thorn in her side, probably affecting her work in the future.
