Chapter 446
It was ten at night in Riverton, but it was still afternoon in Switzerland. Today the sun was shining, and Courtney was chilling in her rocking chair, soaking up the spring
sunshine.
Billy rushed over, shoving a tablet into Courtneyâs face, âMaâam, lookâ
Courtney didnât even open her eyes. âI got it.â
Billy hesitated for a moment, then asked, âIs Marcus planning to go public with his thing with Cornelia?â
Courtney snorted. âHe knows how many eyes are on him, and he knows the dangers lurking around him better than any of us. He wonât reveal that womanâs identity before heâs eliminated all threats, unless he wants to put her in danger.â
Billy didnât buy that Marcus would protect Comelia, âThe guyâs iceâcold, how could he possibly care about a woman he met on a blind date?â
Courtney countered, âYou think he doesnât care about her?â
Billy speculated, âI think he wonât let you touch her because sheâs taken his wifeâs place. You know, you havenât been able to touch anything of his for yearsâ
Courtney was skeptical, âSo he really doesnât care about her? I beg to differ.â
Billy asked, âWhat did you find out when you went to Paris last time?â
Courtney admitted, âI went to Paris to see how much Marcus actually cares about her. The more he does, the better for us. But I wasnât there long enough to figure out his feelings for her.â
Billy queried. âSo, youâre saying we canât make a move yet?â
Courtney chuckled, âThe Hartleys are a patient lot, Iâm in no rush.â
Billy asserted, âI know what to doâ
âGo ahead.â Courtney watched Billy take off, slowly opened her eyes, and gazed at the blue sky.
Pictures of the Hartley couple were circulating online and among those with hidden agendas. The Hartley Groupâs employees were just as curious.
The next day, Cornelia pulled herself together and arrived at the company early.
When she got there. The staff of the Presidentâs Secretarial Office started trickling in, all discussing President Hartley and his wife.
Seeing Cornelia in the break room, everyone wanted to pull her into the gossip.
Since Yolanda, one of the secretaries, was close to Cornelia. They nudged her to talk to Cornelia, âCornelia, last night President Hartley and his wife were spotted. Did you know?â
The reactions of her colleagues today made Cornelia realize her worries yesterday were unnecessary. Marcus didnât make her a target of public opinion.
She laughed it off, âHow could I not know about something this big?â
Yolanda continued, âI think the presidentâs wife looks a lot like you from the back. If you didnât always wear your hair in a bun and Iâve never seen you let your hair down. Id really think the girl in the photo was youâ
Cornelia, feeling guilty, immediately looked around, âOnly say this in front of me, never to others. If President Hartley hears, it wonât be good for either of us.
