Chapter 403
âMy wifeâs loyalty is our business, not a game for you to play.â Marcus was glad that Cornelia had firmly rejected Zavier, but he didnât appreciate Zavierâs mind games.
As her husband, the one who promised to be with her for life. He should have unconditional trust and support for Cornelia, no matter
what she said or did.
Zavier laughed again, âDid I mention you and your wife? I was talking about Cornelia and her husband.â
Marcus raised an eyebrow, âWhatâs the difference?â
Zavier patted his shoulder, âMarc, let me remind you. Cornelia is loyal to her husband, not to you. To her, youâre just her boss, nothing
more.â
Zavier knew Marcus well, and every word he said hit home.
âMind your own business, I donât need your concern,â With that, Marcus turned to leave, but Zavierâs voice came from behind, âMarc, one last thing, keep your wife out of other peopleâs affairs, otherwise, next time, I wonât just invite her for dinner.â
âAre you threatening me?â Marcus turned back, sizing up Zavier from head to toe, then smirked, âZavier, I have a surprise for you too, I think youâll love it.â
Zavier had known Marcus for many years and thought he knew him well, but he had a bad feeling about Marcusâs âsurpriseâ, âWhat are you planning to give me?â
Marcus glanced at his watch, âJust wait a bit, youâll see.â
âMarc.â Zavier said.
Marcus waved without turning around, âIâm taking my wife. Weâll catch up another time.â
Cornelia obediently followed him out of the private room. Seeing Ayden, she naturally walked over to him, âAyden, youâre here too.â
Ayden didnât respond.
Cornelia stood by his side. Surrounded by familiar faces, she felt at ease. She kept an eye on the situation in the private room, but the soundproofing was too good. She couldnât hear Marcus and Zavierâs conversation.
Although she only waited for a few minutes, it felt like centuries to Cornelia. When Marcus came out, she hurried to greet him, âPresident Hartley.â
Marcus spoke softly, âLetâs go.â
Cornelia followed his pace, âWhy are you in Nice?â
Marcus couldnât tell her that he came because he was worried about her, âWhy canât I be in Nice?â
Cornelia was at a loss for words.
Marcus continued, âLetâs go back to Paris.â
Comelia said, âOkayâ
The airport wasnât far away. Cornelia got into the car arranged by Marcus, and they hurried to the airport to take the earliest flight back to
Paris.
The flight time was over an hour. Cornelia planned to catch up on some sleep, but the thought of Skyler kept her awake. As she tossed and turned in her seat, Marcusâs deep voice came into her ears, âHere, this is for you.â
