Chapter 359
Marcus didnât expect Zavier to use these tactics on his own wife âThreatening Skyler with the Blue family to get her back? Man, youâre just pushing her further awayâ
Zavier retorted, âAs long as she stays with me who cares where her heart is?â
âDoesnât it matter? Marcus asked.
âWhy would I care?â Zavier shot back. âTell me, if one day Cornelia wanted to leave you, would you use extreme methods to keep her?â
Marcus firmly replied. âThat will never happenâ
Zavier persisted. âHypothetically speakingâ
1 would never do that,â Marcus insisted
You sure about that?â
1m damn sure.â Marcus assured
If Cornelia still wanted to leave him after knowing his true identity, it would be because he hurt her. If he hurt her, hed have no reason left to keep her around.
Zavier laughed âWell, Marc. I hope you walk the talk. Or else, I remind you myself â
Marcus didnât respond further. He hung up on Zavier, then dialed another number âSend more people to protect Skyler. Donât let Zavierâs guys get close, and donât let her sense anything fishy She must live freelyâ
After speaking, he hung up the phone without waiting for a response.
Looking at his bleeding hand, he shook his head helplessly Cornelia was a stubborn woman. Once she made up her mind, she wouldnât budge.
This trait had its pros and cons. She took things too seriously and was easily hurt. He had to find a way to guide her, to change her slowly so she wouldnât be overly emotional when facing problems Most importantly, so she wouldnât hurt herself again.
In the days that followed, Cornelia continued to work with Marcus on the Paris branch. They cooperated well at work and never mentioned what happened the other day, as if nothing had
occurred
In a blink of an eye, it was Christmas Eve The first thing Cornelia did when she woke up was to video call her grandmother in the US.
Her granny was very happy on the video call, spinning her phone around. âNelly, can you see? Our whole family is cooking together.â
Cornelia followed the camera, and saw housekeepers, helpers, and nurses in the house, but no sign of a familar yet strange man âGranny, Jeremy didnât come home either?â
Granny Rebecca replied, âJeremy just called us before you did. Heâs been busy with work like you. Apparently, heâs dealing with a very complicated issue, so he couldnât come home.â
âGranny,â Corneliaâs eyes welled up with tears. Iâm sorry I canât come home for Christmas again.â
She couldnât return to Rosenberg before, and she thought she could bring her granny to Riverton for Christmas this year. But work brought her to Paris which was miles away
Her granny was in poor health and getting older. Cornelia didnât know how many more Christmases she could spend with her
âStop being silly and apologizing You didnât intentionally avoid me. I understand the stress you young people have these days. You need to work, buy a house, repay your mortgage, and I cant help you âAlthough Granny Rebecca wished to have Cornelia home for the holidays, she didnât show it. Cornelia had been responsible since childhood and had endured a lot. She
didnât want to add to her burdens
Granny Rebecca worried that any additional stress could be the last straw that broke the camels back for Cornelia.
