Chapter 232
Abigail rolled her eyes. âSuch a pain.â
Leonardo asked, âWhat did you say?â
Abigail replied, âIf you donât want to eat, please leave. Donât ruin our meal.â
âWell, if you want me to leave, then Iâll leave. Who wants to eat with you anyway?â Once Leonardo left, he started to regret his decision. Was he a fool to just leave because someone told him to?
With nowhere to go, he had no choice but to head to the smoking area.
âLeo?â
Hearing his name, Leonardo immediately turned around. What a day! Even Cameron Reese was at Rosenbergâs restaurant.
âIs that really you? When did you start liking Rosenberg food?â Cameron approached him and asked, âDid you get a new girlfriend whoâs from Rosenberg?â
Leonardo was still upset. âWhat new girlfriend? I just took a wrong turn. What about you? Why are you here?â
Cameron lit a cigarette and said, âThe boss of a project Iâm working on is from Rosenberg. He likes strong flavors and doesnât fancy other highâend places. He prefers places like this.â
âCameron, this place isnât cheap,â Leonardo retorted, feeling that Cameronâs comment was somewhat discriminatory.
The minimum charge here was in the thousands, and many people couldnât afford it. Cameronâs statement that this place was for the poor seemed quite prejudiced.
Cameron scoffed, âWho cares about the price? Iâm talking about their taste. Even if Rosenberg people are rich, it doesnât change their taste.â
Leonardo had just found out that Marcusâs wife was from Rosenberg, and now Cameron was saying such things. He turned around nervously, fearing that Marcus might be behind them. âCameron, letâs not make such discriminatory comments.â
Cameron replied dismissively, âWhatâs there to be afraid of?â
Leonardo countered, âThe economy in Riverton is more developed not because we work harder but due to geographical location. The poor economy in Rosenberg is also due to location, not because the people there arenât hardworking. Theyâre even more resilient than us in Riverton.â
Cameron asked, âWhatâs wrong with you? Why do you always stand up for others?â
Leonardo retorted, âWhatâs wrong is your attitude. Youâre doing business with them on one hand and looking down on their background. on the other. How is that any different from being ungrateful?â
Cameronâs face turned sour. âWhat do you know? Youâve never seen the dark side of business, and yet youâre criticizing me.â
âMr. Wilson may not understand business, but he understands humanity better than you. If Mr. Reese looks down on us Rosenberg people so much, thereâs no need to do business with us.â The speaker was a tall, thin man in his forties who looked very energetic.
Cameron sneered, âMr. Rosso, if you donât do business with me, do you think anyone in Riverton would dare to do business with you? The four big families in Riverton are the same. Marcus, the president of the Hartley Group, is even my good friend.â
âHmph.â Mr. Rosso didnât say a word, turned around and went back to his booth, called his buddies, and then ordered the staff to find them a random table in the hall. He ordered food again and started eating, not caring about Cameronâs feelings at all.
Cameronâs face turned purple with rage. âYouâre impossible to please. I bet you wonât be able to survive in Riverton.â
As a witness, Leonardo was worried that Cameron would blame him for this, so he quietly returned to the booth where Marcus, Cornelia, and the others were while Cameron was dealing with his staff.
After closing the door, he peeked out through a small crack to make sure no one was following him before he felt at ease.
Marcus saw his weird behavior and asked, âWhatâs wrong with you?â
Abigail mocked, âHe needs a reason to come back, right?â
