Chapter 230
In the middle of the conversation, the waiter started serving the dishes. The first thing that came was the soup.
The weather was exceptionally cold today, so a bowl of soup was just appropriate.
The waiter handed the soup to Marcus, who passed it to Cornelia, who was sitting on his right. He said, âYou go first.â
Comelia said, âThanks.â
Leonardo piped up, âYou only see the person on your right, but you donât see me on your left.â
But no one responded to him.
Then the dishes were served one by one.
These were all dishes that Cornelia and the others loved. Marcus said he was trying to adapt, and Cornelia even ordered two lighter dishes for him.
Leonardo and Marcus were locals who normally preferred lighter food.
The first dish served was spicy, and so was the second. Looking at the table full of dishes, with only two of them being light in taste and the rest being greasy, Leonardo was at a loss for where to start.
He couldnât help but complain, âCan we eat this?â
Before he could finish, Marcus glared at him, as if to say, âIf I can eat it, whatâs your excuse?â
Under Marcusâs intimidating gaze, Leonardo didnât dare to say anything more. But he didnât want to be ignored either.
He asked the waiter to pour a glass of wine for everyone and said, âLetâs not just focus on eating. Letâs drink first.â
Cornelia declined, saying, âSorry, Iâm driving; I canât drink.â
Leonardo nudged the wine glass towards Cornelia and said, âYou donât need to drive; Marcus has other drivers. If thatâs not possible, we can call a designated driver. Come, letâs drink first.â
Marcus picked up the wine glass in front of Cornelia and dumped the wine into the trash can, saying in a low voice, âShe said she doesnât drink.â
Leonardo said, âThe wine is opened; theyâre not drinking; are we two going to drink alone?â
Cornelia suddenly remembered what Dr. Dawson had said: âPresident Hartley canât drink either. His stomach isnât good.â
Leonardo asked, âMarcus, since when is your stomach not good?â
Marcus ignored him. He turned to Cornelia and said, âCornelia, how come I didnât know about his stomach? Donât try to fool me. We often drink together; I didnât see any problem with his stomach.â
Cornelia said, âI donât care about the past, but from now on, as long as I am his assistant, unless necessary, I absolutely wonât allow him. to touch a drop of alcohol.â
The tone was so bossy, as if she were his wife.
Leonardo didnât think Cornelia had the final say. He looked at Marcus and said, âMarcus, not only do you let your wife boss you around, but also your assistant. Are you really okay with being henpecked?â
Marcus answered, âIâm fine with being bossed around by my wife. He handed the wine glass to the waiter and said, âJust get me a bottle of mineral water.â
Leonardo was speechless for a moment.
Marcus added, âBoth Cornelia and my wife are doing it for my own good. Donât ask me to drink anymore. I need to take care of my
stomach,â
He said he was taking care of his stomach, but he was still eating spicy food.
Only a fool would believe that!
Leonardo asked, âMarc, you never used to eat such heavyâtasting food. What made you change?â
