Chapter 1726
It was as if waves of people were crashing against Skylerâs shore, one after the other, consuming the entire morning and turning her routine upside down.
And it wasnât just for the day. For the following days, Skyler was like the schoolâs novelty act, drawing crowds wherever she went, turning into some sort of mobile tourist attraction on campus.
Zavier was well aware of the situation.
Leaning in, Garrett whispered to him, âZavier, the whole schoolâs buzzing about Skyler being your fiancée. Arenât you going to set the record straight?â
Zavier replied nonchalantly, âShe is my fiancée. Whatâs there to clarify?â
Garrett stared at Zavier incredulously, âMan, at the start of the semester, you couldnât stand the thought of being linked to your âfiancée. And now, just a few months later, youâre acting like youâre head over heels. Donât tell me youâve fallen for Skyler and actually want to marry her?â
Zavier shot Garrett a frosty glance, âWhether I marry her or not is none of your business. And for the record, even if I donât, she wouldnât give you a second glance. So, you might as well get over her now.âe2
Garrett shrugged, âOnce I knew she was off-limits, I backed off. I may not have many virtues, but I know when to fold.â
Zavier simply stated, âKeep an eye on her at school.â
With a chuckle, Garrett retorted, âWith the title of Zavierâs fiancée, she hardly needs my protection.â
Zavier felt that was true and dropped the subject. He reached for his phone, intending to shoot Skyler a message on WhatsApp, but then he realized he didnât have any of Skylerâs contact details. âDo you have Skylerâs contact info?â
Garrett was incredulous, âYouâre telling me you donât even have your own fiancéeâs number?â
âJust answer the question,â Zavier demanded.
âI donât have it, of course. But Iâm in a group with Skyler. Iâll try to add her, and once she accepts, Iâll share her contact with you,â Garrett offered.
Zavier nodded in approval.
Garrett attempted to add Skyler as a friend on WhatsApp, only to be met with a notification that her account was private and wouldnât accept friend requests.
He showed the screen to Zavier, âI canât send her friend requests.â
âThen get me into this group,â Zavier instructed.
Garrett complied immediately.
In no time, Zavier was in the group, âWhich one is Skyler?â
âThatâs the one with the black profile picture and no nickname,â Garrett pointed out.
Hearing this, Zavier didnât hesitate to tag Skyler, â@Skyler, this is Zavier. Add me on WhatsApp.â
No one dared to tease openly, but the groupâs numbers swelled from a few dozen to five hundred in minutes, a testament to their curiosity.
Yet, Skyler did not respond to Zavierâs message. She was in class, a time when she never carried her phone.
Her roommate Emma slid her a note, âSkyler, Zavierâs asking you to add him on WhatsApp in the reading competition group.â
Skyler scribbled a reply, âNo phone with me. Tell him Iâll add him after class.â
Before Emma could send the message, Zavier appeared at the entrance of their lecture hall, ignoring the ongoing lecture, his voice booming, âSkyler, I asked you to add me on WhatsApp. Why havenât you?â
