Chapter 1720
Could this mysterious figure be Nora? Skyler had no clue.
Zavier said, âGrandpa, if it turns out everything was her doing, I wonât go easy on her. You better brace yourself.â
âIâve allowed them to showcase their talents without turning on each other. If it comes to light that sheâs responsible for both incidentsâ¦â Hudson paused, as if steeling himself for what he had to say next, âthen what must be done, will be done.âââ
Zavier nodded, âGrandpa, thatâs all I needed to hear.â
Hudson continued, âThe butler might be back soon. Best you take Skyler and leave now.â
âI wanted to stay and have dinner with you,â Zavier said.
âNot today. When you find out the real culprit, take over Rivera Inc., and have the ability to make everyone acknowledge you, then come and have a meal with me.â Hudson replied.e2
Zavier knew now was not the time to reveal that he and Hudson were putting on an act. He stood up, âCome on, Scaredy-cat, letâs go.â
Skyler got up too, âTake care, Grandpa. Weâll head out now.â
Impatiently, Hudson waved them off, âGo on. Get outta here. Having you youngsters around is like a non-stop racket in my ears.â As Zavier and Skyler walked away, Hudson felt a twinge of comfort but then remembered something crucial. âZavier, leave by a different route. There were cameras in th house. You canât be caught together.â
âDonât worry. No one knows the surveillance system better than me,â Zavier assured him.
The thought of his beloved grandson having to sneak around his own home, unable to openly share a meal, pained Hudson deeply. âZavier, Iâm sorry.â
âGrandpa, you taught me when I was very young not to punish myself for someone elseâs mistakes. I remember it well. How could you forget?â Zavier said with a small smile.
Hudson smiled back, satisfied, âAlright then, off you go.â
Not wanting to linger, Zavier led Skyler to the front door. âIâll leave through a side exit. Have the driver take you out of the villa, and Iâll wait for you outside the compound.â
Skyler nodded, âOkay.â
The driver, a loyal confidante of Hudsonâs, took Skyler out of the estate. As they left, a car was parked ahead. âMiss Skyler, you should switch to Zavierâs car now.â
âThatâs Zavierâs ride?â Skyler asked, surprised.
Zavierâs usual choice was a sports car, and the familyâs garage was filled with luxury brands. The car in front of her was a nondescript sedan, likely not worth more than twenty thousand.
The driver confirmed, âYes.â
Skyler hurriedly got out and into Zavierâs car. Once she was settled, Zavier floored the accelerator, and the sedan shot forward, but they werenât heading towards school.
âWhere are you taking me?â Skyler asked.
To meet your future mother-in-law,â Zavjer said with a straight face.
That joke isnât funny at all,â Skyler retorted.
âMy mom wants to meet you. She asked me to bring you home for dinner,â Zavier explained.
âYour fatherâs passing hit her hard. She hasnât been looking well. You should look after her more,â Skyler advised.
A chuckle escaped Zavierâs lips, âSkyler, youâre in hot water yourself, and here you are worrying about others.â
âDo you think I want to worry about others? Weâre in the same boat. If your rock collapses and canât get back up, guess whoâs going to suffer too?â Skyler shot back.
