Chapter 1660
Zavier and Skyler are young, and there arenât any health issues. As long as they do it, itâs quite likely for Skyler to get pregnant.
Once Skyler is pregnant, itâs guaranteed to be a boy. Thereâs no possibility of having a girl.â
When Kalene caught the drift of Noraâs implication, her eyes widened in realization. âNora, is this really the right thing to do? Afterall, itâs Zavierâs own flesh and blood weâre talking about.â
Nora fixed her with a look that was both steely and shrewd. âThose who aim to achieve great things must be willing to sacrifice the trivial. If you canât stomach that much, then youâre doomed to watch Rivera Inc. slip into Matthew and Owenâs hands, and Brodieâs true cause of death will remain forever a mystery to you.â
She paused, letting each word sink in before adding, âUnless, of course, you donât actually want to know how Brodie really died.â
Kalene thought about it, and she thought hard. The obsession was nearly driving her mad. âAlright, Iâm in. Iâll do whatever it takes to uncover the truth behind Brodieâs death. He wonât have died in vain.â
Nora seemed pleased, patting Kaleneâs shoulder reassuringly. âKalene, itâs getting late. Letâs get some rest. Weâll see if thereâs good news come moming.âe2
âMhm.â Kalene looked up, gazing at the second-floor window of the quaint little cottage where Zavierâs room was. The light was still on â were the young lovebirds moving in the direction of their plans?
She could only hope. All her hopes were now pinned on whatever was growing in Skylerâs belly.
Meanwhile, in Zavierâs room.
Zavierâs face was a storm cloud as he entered, silent as the grave. Skyler didnât know whether to stand or sit, feeling out of place and tense. âZavier, the doorâs locked, and I canât leave. Could I crash on the sofa in the study for the night?â
Zavier took in her flushed face and slender figure. His eyebrows involuntarily lifted higher. The woman was too weak, so feeble that she seemed incapable of self-preservation. If she truly became his wife, not only would she be unable to stand by his side through thick and thin, but sheâd also be a stumbling block on his road to success. She was all wrong for him, yet Hudson had insisted on pairing them up â the ulterior motives were glaringly
obvious.
Whether or not Rivera Inc. ended up in his hands was of lesser concern to him. What mattered was uncovering the real reasons behind his brotherâs death, which meant starting from the inside.
Zavierâs piercing gaze never left her, and his silence was downright terrifying. Skyler, feeling the weight of his stare, shrank back instinctively. âIf youâre not cool with me using the sofa, I wonât. Just lend me a little corner. I can just curl up there for the night.â
This woman, as timid as a mouse!
Zavier recalled the way sheâd blushed furiously yet remained silent under Jillianâs verbal abuse. âIâm curious,â he said with a sneer, âwhat exactly did they teach you in the Blue family?â
Skyler missed the underlying sarcasm in Zavierâs question and answered earnestly, âMy family hired the best tutors in music, chess, and painting â all private lessons, just for me.â
Zavier let out a derisive laugh. âIs that what I asked?â
